I've been posting my progress with PV's on my facebook page and most of my friends and all of my family are very supportive. But one friend, I would just love to strangle ... lol. This I think is going to be the hardest part of our battle in getting people to understand that we are not smokers any longer, we are vapors. But in their eyes and minds, if we haven't kicked the physical habit of smoking, regardless of whether or not we are using nicotine, then we are still being considered smokers. :(

This is what I posted:

I'm tobacco smoke free for 4 weeks now. Free from all the carcinogens in tobacco cigarettes. My breathing has improved, I no longer wheeze or get out of breath easily. Smokers cough now completely gone. And for those who aren't aware of it, nicotine does not cause cancer. It's a vasoconstrictor just like caffiene is. Don't harp on me about my nicotine and I won't harp on you about coffee, tea and sodas.

This was her comment:

I'm really not harping, babe but I am just a bit skeptical about a substitute cigarette as nicotine replacement therapy because it does not address the physical habit of smoking. You know, actually putting a cigarette in your mouth. I realize you will eventually step down to 0 nicotine as with the patches, but you will still have the habit of putting the thing in your mouth....like any other physical habit, such as hair twirling or nail biting, its tough to break....( oh and I can't wait until you are a non-smoker....we former smokers are the worst kind!!!)

I kinda agree with her. Until I lay it down completely I'm still "smoking"; just something different. As long as I'm addicted to nicotine, it will be easy to go back to analogs......

You might be surprised. Many people who have been vaping for a while don't like the smell or taste of analogs any longer.

After a couple months its really not that easy to go back to smoke. Tastes like an ashtray, burns throat, nose, tounge shreds lungs that are now unused to the combustion.

Smoking is not vaping.

1. I don't care what other people think, I'm vaping for ME...

2. EX smokers are the hardest to convice, because they had to do it the hard way...why should we get an easier method?

3. My usual response is...Yes, you're right. I am still addicted. All I did was switch my addiction to a different thing. But here's the deal, this new thing tastes better, smells better, costs less and doesn't cause cancer (for me or others around me). Have a nice day.

Telling them they are right pretty much negates thier argument.

In the end, it's YOU that matters, not what everyone else thinks.

I've already weaned myself down to 5mg nicotine from the 18mg that I started at 4 weeks ago. I've had no cravings or need to pick up a tobacco cigarette because I am also taking care of the physical habit side of smoking as well. That is where and why regular NRT's fail so miserably, they don't address the physical habit of picking up a cigarette and smoking it.

+1...I said the same thing a while back on a different thread. Most didnt agree. We are just doing the "safer" way of smoking, if there is such a thing. We are all banking on the fact that its safer, but none of us know for sure, without research being done.

A lot of people said we dont light up and burn anything, so we are not smoking. But the same people fail to see the atty or the carto as the "fire" source and the liquid being turned to vapor is pretty much the same. People here WANT it to be different than smoking and they ban together and say it together so it must make it true. NOT.

As long as we use a PV to vaporize liquid and inhale it into our lungs, we ARE still smokers. Even going to 0 nic, if you are inhaling a substance that used a "fire" (atty/carto) source to burn (vaporize) something, and you inhale the "smoke" (vapor), YOU ARE SMOKING.

Sometimes as we grow and move through life, it's easier to see who true friends are and who isn't going to be supportive of us (as true friends should be).

but you will still have the habit of putting the thing in your mouth....like any other physical habit, such as hair twirling or nail biting, its tough to break.

Do you think she would have said that if you were using Lollipops or a straw to quit? Hmmmm

Family? I ignore the crappy comments (you almost have to, and eventually they stopped). Friends? I reevaluate the motives for their snarky comments and need to control my life and choices. If (what ever I do) is safe, makes me happy and sane, they should be sitting in my camp.

If she keeps it up, take her off your friend list. LOL

EXACTLY.

I quit a million times before this. For over a year twice and for over 3 years once. Still went back. My anxiety gets the best of me and I need to be soothed.

There has to be a correlation...I have no desire to pick up anything with nicotine in it. I just need to be able to vape 0mg when I'm stressed and I'm good.

Congrats on your 4 weeks of being a non-smoker!!!

Well then so be it, I am smoking/vaping/what ever ... but at least I and my house no longer smell like an ashtray and I'm not inhaling all the extra carcinogens found in tobacco smoke. Of course I can't do anything about all the carcinogens found in the very air that we breathe, the water that we drink or the foods that we eat. But I have at least cut out one of the biggest culprits for respiratory ailments and certain cancers.

MoonRose... you kind of made her point,

truth is hard to take sometimes... We are still smoking (vaping) it's different... and hopefully much healthier, although as the OP said....who knows for sure? We really don't........

friends are allowed to have their own opinion, you put out a post fishing for complete support... be prepared to have someone call you on it...

truth is...we don't know what we are doing... maybe what we are doing is better for us....maybe not.... time will tell

And my money is on this..... If our PV's died today and we couldn't replace them.... more than 3/4 of us would have a pack of analogs before tomorrow morning.... So question is... Did we quit? really quit? or just change our brands sort of....

I'm not judging...... I'm a vapor 18 days without an analog... but my eyes aren't completely shut either..

I have to disagree. Being an staunch opponent of ANY combustion I can tell you that the electrical excitement of molecules to produce steam/vapor is not the same as the conflagration of a substance. The PV does not produce smoke. ie no residuals tars, etc..

We really do know what were doing. Each ingredient used in the e-juice (assuming its made as advertised) has been thoroughly tested for consumption via the other products which contain them.

While there could be some small variable issue as to the heating of said chemicals it doesn't follow that the ingredients would be unsafe at temperatures up to 500 degrees IE food flavorings are usually cooked, PG and VG fog machines use heat to make fog, water of course is boiled daily.

if vaping was still smoking based on a habbit putting something in you mouth to suck on then all those office people who suck on their pens all day are smokers

if the consumption of nicotine is considered smoking then so is eating tomatos bc they contain small amounts of nicotine

smoking means that you are inhaling smoke from something that is lit, combustable. people who dip are not smokers they are dippers. so we are vapors since we inhale vapor.

You don't need research to know that vapor is safer than burning tobacco. It really is a no-brainer and to pretend otherwise is just silly.

Atty's and cartomizers do not utilize fire. It is the fire that makes cigarettes dangerous. And nicotine is not tobacco.

Vaping is NOT SMOKING. That's like saying that if I crush coffee beans up, stuff them into a pipe and smoke them, it's the same physical effect as drinking hot coffee and inhaling the coffee steam in the process. Or maybe I'll roll up some crushed tea bag filling and smoke it - and say it's the same thing as drinking a cup of tea? You're kidding, right?

Sorry - your argument is flat-out nonsensical and ridiculous.

Really??? you've been a staunch opponent of combustion for how long??? 75 days now?? So when you stick your hand in a fire it's somehow different from when you stick you hand on a hot electric stove eye?? Look into an Atty.....and press the battery button... It's burning fluid, and you are inhaling that fluid..... the only difference here is the molecular state prior to it burning tobacco is in a solid state....e-juice is in a liquid state... both still burn.. although the term vaporizing is cool... I'll give you that much

Those "small variable issues" might be bigger than we know, that's all I'm saying... someday studies will be done and we'll have a much more educated knowledge of what the affects are to our lungs and body, but right now, we are the lab rats

sticking your hand on a red hot stove eye is not the same as sticking it in a red hot fire.... so it isn't going to burn....

you know when they first made tobacco....I bet they thought it was completely safe too...
