I'm planning on it. I lived in Washington State most of my life. One I'm done with college here, it's off to the West Coast once again!
For sure, it does happen. It's not concerning me too much, thanks though:)

Probably not going to help you much but Utah does kind of suck. I try to spend as little time as possible in that state when I have to.

The employee in question just has no customer service skills and obviously doesnt know what the hell he's doing. Dont sweat it, it happens.

Going from a DGAF region of the US like the west coast to Utah, jeez, my whole life would be a rant. I think the only thing worse would be moving from SoCal to Wyoming, which I did. Imagine my surprise to learn high schools had "rodeo teams"

D'oh! That sucks.

I will reiterate the 'one day you'll be grateful getting carded for looking too young' thing. And in your avatar, age is somewhat questionable. I remember being at the DMV recently and seeing a bunch of kids there getting their learners' permits (made apparent by parent accompaniment). Some of them looked 12, and others looked 22. It's hard to tell with the younger generation these days. Damn, I sound like a crotchety old man.

But, you did have an ID. If I owned a vape shop into which you just walked, I'd card you in a heartbeat. But if you showed me a legitimate ID with the hologram and all, I wouldn't question it and you'd walk out with a bottle of juice.

And if I were the police dispatcher you called, I'd tell you the same thing. Business owners and staff do have the right to refuse service. It's the law. And I wouldn't want my tax dollars going to pay the police for trivial (not to you at the time, but in the grand scheme of things) disputes over an ID when they're already in short supply.

And if I were in your shoes, I'd be ... raging mad. I wouldn't cause my buddy, the shop owner to lose business over an ignorant employee's mistake, but I'd be damn sure it didn't happen again, and that the owner knew he had a disrespectful and offensive employee on staff, and should take action to correct it either by training or firing the guy.

So, in a nutshell, I sympathize with you, respect the police officer's/dispatcher's decision, and have no respect for the dumb clerk at the shop.

Yea baby!

Sorry bout your run in with the @&$#%¥€ they are everywhere these days. Just take it as a compliment tell the manager and get the dude squared away. Just a temporary inconvenience.

Well, I'm glad the incident is settled for you, but I'm afraid for the employee. He did *exactly* what he's supposed to do, especially in light of all the traps LEA's set up these days. In my neck of the woods he'd be arrested and hauled off in cuffs for selling to a 17-yr-old, so I might take the high road and get to know the guy for the next time.

Well, I beg to differ... He was supposed to ask for an ID - since the OP seems so young - to check if she was really of legal age. The OP presented a legitimate ID. The employee was not supposed to believe it was fake, not because there was something wrong with it, but only because the OP looked younger! I mean, what's the point of even asking for an ID, if you'll just tell a costumer "This ID seems legit, and I do not see anything suspicious about it, but I cannot believe the official document you're showing me, because you look more like seventeen"??
I guess it would be easier to just say "I dont care about what you say, or what proof of age you present. To me, you're only seventenn, so I cannot seel anything to you?"
Im my book, that's like accusing the OP of bringing a fake ID with her, and trying to buy stuff while being underaged... Is the employee supposed to make these wild accusations? Really?

Oh my gosh I know! It was such a culture shock, you have no idea. I've only gone to a public school once, I believe it was a semester of my seventh grade year..then college for the past four years. They had "rodeo teams"?! Oh, that's..something different haha. Did you try out?

Thank you, and I do have respect for the police officer, but in Utah..it's usually the owners that have to turn a legit customer down IF they are causing a problem, which I feel like I didn't. Plus, officers here tend to be a little up tight and rude, so that didn't help.
All is well, though. I hung out with the owners last night, got re-stocked and that employee quit after they called to talk to him. They had no intention of firing him, but he did me the honors. I agree with you completely.

I thought that was exactly what happened. And I guess the local LEA's behave differently in your neck of the woods than in mine. But it doesn't matter anymore because she worked it all out on her own, got an invite to a "social" and behaved with more class than any 19-year-olds I've known. I only said something because all of the advice telling her to get the guy fired, and I don't like seeing someone get canned for doing his job. Being rude is a matter requiring re-training, however, and it sounds like he'll get that.
