Sorry you had a problem ShayBaby, but here's the scoop.
New standards to be considered a 'trusted/certified' retailer in Utah. This is due to a reported increase in youth access in Utah Jr & High schools. I've spoken with all but a few retailers in the state and thus far, all are on board and agree to the importance to this. Utah Vapers - Vendors

I fully support this, and it should be noted that the state is using this issue to push for legislation that would shut vaping down. Both the state and several counties are running sting operations hoping to catch shops selling to minors.

I feel like that is a bit harsh.

Quit patronizing local brick and mortar shops and soon enough there wont be any.

This is a case of a guy in a shop trying to protect himself from criminal charges. If it were me I would have just told the lady that I needed to make a copy of her ID to prove not only that I checked it but to protect myself from any suspicion. At that point if she refused THEN I would have refused to sell to her.

It's a clear case of people being so afraid of our own government who is not present that they are rude and condescending to people that are present.

Sad really, but IMHO, never giving the B & M shop your business again is just a knee jerk reaction that ultimately hurts us all.

    YMMV, Just my opinion.

See, and I would have been fine with him copying my ID instead of throwing a fit that I didn't want to deal with without his manager there. I completely understand his suspicions.- I get it all too often. Like said, it's not enough for me to say "I'm not going back", so many people love that shop! Just a bad egg at the wrong time of day.

OP: Please don't let anyone make a copy of your license. Ever. There is no business need for some ...... at some dumbass silly vape shop to have that much of your personal info. I can count on 1 hand the amount of times someone actually NEEDED a copy of my license.

Let's talk about this guy for a second, I can almost see him in my head:

Shorts and t shirt - both raggedy, maybe a stupid beanie hat on his head
half grown face pubes in some ridiculous "hipster" fashion/style
mod hanging around his neck like a 2 year old would have his/her boppie

    Am I close?

My thoughts. Suggest to the owner to put in place the photo copy ID idea. Black out address area and keep on file. They do have to protect themselves especially with the ANTZ trying to say that kids are getting ahold of vaping stuff.

As for the rest? Good job Shay in getting things resolved in an intelligent and respectful way. :)

Now I'm going to sit back and watch the flirting. :pop: Soo cute

Ditto. Go talk to the manager / owner and complain. Along with threats of never spending another dime in their store.

    ^^ Agree!!

When I was 21, a beer distributor refused to sell me a case of beer because he said my ID looked fake. I told him to call the cops, he refused, so I did, and the cops assured me that if I really wanted them to come down there, that I would be arrested for wasting their time. Gotta love amerika. I went 2 blocks down the road and bought from his competitor.. too bad there aren't more vape shops around!

Well think of it this way:

He can't card you for a donut, and he has to sell it to you. He'll feel like an idiot and you'll walk out like Charlie Sheen :D

    Top of the line;)

No need to be sorry at all! ..... happens, my only problem is that he still refused me even with a legit I.D. I know of Utah's rules and regulations, and I especially know what their pushing for. I am not a minor, though. His owners know this, it was just the wrong time of day for me to step in without make-up lol. He could have had a much more mature presence about the whole thing, you know? It's not the rules by any means. I follow as needed. It's more so those few individuals who get too ahead of themselves. Thank you for posting this, though, as always:)

    Cop...I swear. Can't kill'em. GOOD FOR YOU!
Haha, there's plenty..but I just don't feel the need to drive two hours out of my way to reach one haha. The ones that are in my area are either rude or too expensive.

I'm 40 and 6'4" and I used to get carded for cigarettes at least once a year. Maryland cracks down harder on underage cigarette sales than they do underage alcohol sales.

Not to cross any taboo lines on the forum, but the state of Utah is basically controlled by a particular religion, and that religion really frowns on alcohol, tobacco, and even caffeine. I'm surprised they even have vape shops in Utah.

The religion does have a huge effect on "fun". Now, I have many friends and family who are of that religion, but the ones who are raised out of state, are SO different and lax. Even they say that Utah born and raised are even extreme. Utah wont change, though. It will always be a battle and there will never be a separation of church and state here. So, I do agree.

To guard donut shops and convenience stores?

NO-NO, this is what cops exist for.

The 3 county area of Box Elder, Weber and Davis county has seen an explosive growth of youth access in their schools and recent raids of a Jr High and High School in the area apparently netted well over 100 confiscated devices from underage youth.

I still haven't been able to find out how many packs of cigarettes they confiscated.

I can't believe you people would call the cops for someone not accepting your ID's. Seriously?! Do you people know what the police force exists for?!

Yeah, helping people. Do you see how many cops just sit and radar people, sit at gas stations and fast food places. In my town, so many cops just don't know what to do with themselves. If you're having a domestic dispute with someone, who do you call? Ghost Busters? No, you call a professional official that can help resolve the matter. If I am being treated unfairly, and can not get an issue resolved, I will go to the outer power to get my right. One, calling the police gave him edge and me leeway. Granted, I know the police weren't going to do anything. Could I have taken it to another level, sure but it would have been falsely and not worth the risk. I don't waste an access of time on people that I know will never comply in the end.
Point in case, my ID was legit, the employee was dumb and the cop did his job.
Ending factor, I got my way.
    I'm happy.

I couldn't care less what someones hatred for cops are, but they sure the heck aren't there to make someone let you buy ciggs, ecigs are booze. They exist for criminal matters, and a shop owner has all rights to refuse any sale.

If you would have read a little more, the person who refused me sale was indeed, not the owner. The owners are actually good friends on mine and all the other employees know who I am. Like stated, this guy was new..Cops don't only exist for criminal matters. They are there to help enforce the law and be of aid for the good of the people. I said nothing of hating cops. Okay, you're getting out of context. I did not want the cop there to make him sell me product, just to set edge and verify my ID since the new employee was too naive to not know how to read an ID and ended up rejecting me because of the way I look.- Sorry if that was not made clear.

Sorry but calling the cops out to verify your ID... seriously? Now again, do you know what the police for exists force exists for?!

Okay, obviously we have different views, that's fine. I'm not going to waste my time trying to find a median with you. Obviously, our ways of trying to deal with something, as silly as it may seem, is in a difference. Which is totally awesome, everyone is different. Yes again, police officers do have other duties than to fight off bad guys. I'll let you stick with your opinion though. None the less, have a wonderful day.

If you've got a fake bill I believe first stop is calling a police officer. Locked out of your car? Most pd's will send an officer out.

They are to protect & serve.

If your being told your legit id is not legit who would you call other than the pd? The dmv? Imo that is something an officer has under his massive belt of duties.

    Damned SwiftKey...

Leave the poor girl alone. You're acting like a cop.
