I agree with the menthol thing - was never a menthol smoker but it has to be one of the best, most effective vapes out there (not to mention cheap.)

One tip is when you go out drinking - have a bloody strong juice, nothign sweet either because it won;t cut through the beer / booze after a few drinks. Either a really strong tobacco or a menthol IMO, otherwise you might end up bumming fags off mates like I have when I've gone out with ne of my fave juices RY5, but once the booze kicks in, the sweetness is off putting and doesn't cut through the drink taste or buzz....

Now that i finally have a setup i like, i'd say i'm in the transitioning stage, down from a pack and a half to about half a pack a day. The taste of each normal cig gets worse each day.

It's a really good question though. One of the reasons i really enjoy reading this kind of thread is that there are no signs of judgement about where individuals are. For the most part it seems like transistioning to vaping is just that, a transistion that is done by different people at different paces for different reasons. Some people might never get there, but then again, some people might not be aiming to get there. And that's rightfully thier business.

Hotwire, thanks for the heads up on the boozing. i'll take some VS Tampa next time since i ran into that exact same problem.

I smoked one or two in the first week or so when I had some issues with my poorly made cigalike (wouldn't have happened if I knew there was a vapeshop, where I could have bought an e-Go for the same price, about a minute's walk from the tobacconist I got it at ). But honestly, when I started vaping I no longer wanted to smoke. I was just so happy to be off the stinkies without any strong cravings. I enjoyed it more than smoking, so I knew I wasn't going back to analogs after a week or two like I always did on previous quit attempts. So really it was a reasonably smooth switch over from smoking to vaping.

I still occasionally feel a mild urge to smoke a cigarette, then I remind myself how nasty they taste and the urge goes away :)

I didn't switch in a day, took me about a year of on-and-off vaping before I finally found one that I could stick with.

In the beginning, I was always left with a craving for a real cigarette after vaping. In the end, it was the V2 brand that just didn't suit me personally. Once I went to another brand, I was able to let go for good and I've not looked back since.

It's different for everyone.

I quit the Friday afternoon I got my eGo-c kit.
Vaped like a fool the first night...no desire to go out into the cold garage to smoke a ciggy.
Saturday morning I'm out with the dog, my vape gear, a cup of coffee and my coffee vape.
Lit up one of my Marlboro reds...40+ year companions.
Took two drags...and put it out...
It tasted nasty !
And that was the day me and tobacco parted ways.
Wife and I carted all of my tobacco stash...
And there was a lot of it , out to the outdoor wood boiler.
Had a 'Cerimonial Burn' !

My old companions just didn't taste as good as my coffee vape.
And never really had a craving for them again !
Amazing to me !

I had no intention on giving up smokes. The more people told me I should quit - the more stubborn I was about it. My father died from a horrible cancer 11yrs ago. was a result of 3 packs of Lucky strikes a day for many many yrs. I watched him suffer. My mother at 73 is suffering with COPD. wearing a patch & still smokes about 3/4 cigs a day. Would think that would be enough to scare me into quitting.

I was talking to my son about 2 weeks ago. He's 30yrs old & smoked very little. never liked it. He was asking me when I was going to quit. I told him I had cut back yrs ago & I would try to cut back again. A friend been vaping for a while. I asked if she would lend me a ecig & a little juice so I can try. That was a Sunday afternoon About 1pm. We went out for dinner - after dinner I smoked 1 cig, even tho I had the eCig with me. That was the last time I lit up & have had no desire to light up since. I smoked 35+ yrs - PAD+ . Wish I tried the ecigs sooner! If I have to have an addiction - Vaping is it! :)

To the OP. Good thoughts for you & your wife.

I agree that it's different for everyone,,,,

I put down the cigs, picked up the ecig,,,,,,,,,,,,and never looked back. The thought made me sick, to be honest. I'm vaping 0mg most of the time now too,,,,

My daughter,,,,,,,eh, she still (1 year later) has the occasional cigarette,,,,,and she's still vaping 15 mg.

Neither of us is right,,,,,and neither of us is wrong. even if she has a couple a month,,,,that's still a TON she doesn't have.

Same here but no irges except when drunk, but am cutting down my booze consumption too, so....

I actually enjoy vaping more than smoking too now I've found the right level for me - 6mg and some juices I can vape all day (not that I do vape all day.)

It was really easy for me, I ordered an ego starter kit and I haven't smoked or wanted to smoke ever since the day it arrived.

It seems that from what I have read on this forum and elsewhere, that people that start out with the cheap cigalikes seem to have less success in giving up the analogues than those who start out with a better quality cigalike or mid range ecigs like an ego kit or similar do, so there is a lesson there, you get what you pay for.
A cheap cigalike from wallmart, local store, or your gas station is unlikely to do it for you.

Yes. I stopped smoking the very same day I started vaping.

I did, however, have some sort of a mental hang up about being "out of smokes". It took me about two years to be able to throw away the open pack from the day I stopped.

Ditto- not quite 2 years...but month or so later, I began massive "spring cleaning", scrubbing all tar/brown/nicotine/Yuck off the walls, cabs, ceilings, everywhere!! I picked out a couple of Ashtrays to keep for other uses...and began the soaking of them.
It didnt take quite that month long for my sense of smell to recoup. I could spot a pipe/cig/other smoker at 20 yards. I also made a solemn
promise to myself to never become the "intolerant ex-" Smoker.
All the best!

I'm one of the ones who DID quit using a cheap cigalike. :) I had a Blu disposable, plus a couple of $8 rechargeable cigalikes (and plenty of cartridges). Once I managed to quit real cigs, I decided to move up to bigger & better things. I got a couple of Volt 78mm batteries, plus juice & cartridges, and loved 'em (still do!). Recently SI had a good sale going, so I got a couple of X2 batteries & some X2 clearos, and love 'em even more. Now I'll try to find some good new juices, and just have fun with it all.

BTW I went from 36mg to 6-10mg, and will be going down to 0 very soon. I vape for the taste now! :)

I bought a blu starter kit at the store one day on an impulse.... I tried one abiut a year before and didnt think it would work for me.... I had no interest in quitting at all, not even when I bought the blu.... I almost immediately went down to half a pack a day from at least a pack a day and stayed there for two weeks.... the first weekend after having it a week, I didnt have a pack on me, it wasnt hard but I still had no real intentions on quitting.... later that week, the wife complained about smoking and vaping and aug 17th I had my last analog.... some days are still hard and have their moments, but its not a craving for a smoke or a vape, adjusting to not having that mental break from life that smoking provided....

Add in the day I quit I also ordered an ego c twist and 36 mg juice which I didnt get in the mail until the following wednesday....
Surprisingly, the day I quit was a work shift that I typically would go through just about 2 packs of analogs.... one analog before the 24 hour shift started and with only my blu kit and a disposable njoy, I was outside vaping a lot less often than I would have been out smoking.... add in the fact all the stores close enough to get away to buy a pack were closed when the hought crossed my mind.... havent had one since, even after being offered one or two on occasion....

I have noticed on here that a lot of members say they are still smoking analogues albeit only a few a day ...... Is it that hard to "walk Away" ???? .... I decided on 20th March to give up & bought my first E Cig.

I had just bought a pack of 20 analogues they are still in my desk drawer unopened .................... to be fair I had Quit before way back in 1980 (when my daughter was born) .. didn't smoke at all until 2004 & running my own HVCA Business soon had me smoking at least 25 a day.

As I said I quit the analogues on 20th March, my Wife (Marie) had a Cardiac Arrest on the 14th March & was put on Life support (Nothing whatsoever to do with me smoking... a "Doctor" decided to put her on other meds for her COPD & did not ask nor impart the important info that People with (or who have Family members) who suffer from Heart "Problems" should not take this particular med.

Hence 14 days after starting on the meds she had the first of 6 Cardiac Arrests........ with her COPD I had "Removed myself" from smoking in the House & started smoking in the Garage ...... But of course Marie now needs 24/7 attention I cannot "just Pop out fer a Cig".......So off I went to the Internet & sourced a E Cig supplier ...... Charged the Battery... filled the tank... & Off I went ..

NEVER LOOKED BACK SINCE ....... so, how hard did YOU find the "switch" ......Easy??.... Not that bad??..... Hard??... Still trying??

Post your "Efforts" in here ....

Keith

Took me 3 days and 1,5 analogs... Then i was off and havnt had as much as a drag of an analog since

I am a bit backwards from most people I guess because I initially found it very easy to vape instead of smoke and went months without a cigarette with no problem. Then I recently slipped up one night out drinking and started again. For some reason this time it was a bit harder to give them up but it's been over a week without a cigarette and it's getting easier.

I know a lot of people that had to quit smoking gradually while increasing their vaping. I guess it is just different for everyone and I think having the will to do it is a big part of it.
