Steeping Times and an Ultrasonic Cleaner Part III

... Not sure why this works so anyone have any idea why this is?

Hey danny,

I guess maybe there's more than one way to skin the proverbial cat. Maybe it works along similar principles like crystal seeding when making rock candy. But that process needs sugar. It also sounds like using a sourdough starter but starters don’t make the dough rise any faster.

We all know the problem. How to rapidly and evenly distribute 1 - 2% of something with 99 - 98% of something else. If you take the word “rapidly” out of the equation the answer’s simple. Wait about a month.

Viscosity is a big variable. Add two drops of water to 98 drops of water and give it a shake or two. Voilà! Problem solved. The mixture tastes just like water. Add two drops of vinegar to 98 drops of water and shake it up. It’ll taste slightly vinegar-esque. But the 100mg nic I keep in the freezer and my gallon bottle of PG pours like pancake syrup. I assume VG is way thicker. When I add my concentrated 555 flavoring to the PG and nic mix and give it a shake or two … nothing discernibly happens for days and days.

Heat thins out the mix and the ultrasonic agitation allows the flavoring to mingle more readily into the juice. A few hours, or maybe a few more in the ultrasonic, and the juices are ready to go.

I’m one of those “found my car keys in the last place I looked” kind of guys. After I find the keys … I stop looking for them. And since I stumbled upon making juices with an ultrasonic cleaner I haven’t experimented with any other methods that result in vapable juices in the same time frame of 2-3 hours. And not only that, even if I read about a 2-3-4 hour quick steeping method, the other method would have to be easier than mixing the juice, plopping the bottles in the UC, and turning it on, before I’ll consider it. I’m a lazy guy. “Set It and Forget It” is my kind of motto. I’ve also turned into a spoiled UC snob. I cringe anytime I read the word "days", “week” ,or even worse, “weeks” , when describing steep time.

A friend of mine recently jumped into DIY. He swears there is no way to replace steeping time, even with a UC. Of course he’s never tried making juice with a UC but that doesn’t make any difference. He emphatically states there’s no way you can rush any maturation process and get the same quality. Makes me think the old Seinfeld phrase, “Good luck with all that.”

So he can play little old winemaker and vape no juice before its time … but like I said, I’m a spoiled UC snob. The only time I have to wait more than a week for something is when I'm waiting for my e-cig orders to show up here in Canada. It takes 10-13 days. Today is the tenth day. Nothing was in my mailbox. Maybe tomorrow ... maybe the next day ... at least I don't have to wait anymore for juice.

Very well said and as I invested all this money in the UC process I tend to stick with it but I did find that blurb a bit interesting and thought to my self. Well if what was said is true then using the seed method in combination with the UC method should shorten the time even more then just using one or the other.
I guess it got me over thinking things a bit and my wife says that sometimes gets me in trouble

It wouldn't be too hard to add a "seed" of 5-10% in the bottles and then give 'em the ol' UC. If it ended up with "mature" juices in an hour ... I'd take that extra easy step.

Got it today, working on juice now. It's running over 100f without a heater, so it does warm up quite a bit. One question i dont remember seeing but im sure it's been answered. Is it better to do this with the cap/dropper off? or should i only be doing that with perfumy flavors. Currently running one cycle with caps on, then one off.
