I don't really have any immediate desire to jump into "rolling" my own snus just yet, but the idea of being able to make even smaller portions than minis does appeal to me. So I was wondering...
Is any of the flavor of snus contained in the "bag" (or whatever you call it) itself? Or does all the flavor come from the
tobacco? I've assumed the bag was treated with like a minty powder (I've been using General Mini Mint) and that if I were to make my own portions, I'd be out of luck with flavor.
Supposedly, the wet portions are sprayed with flavorings. However, I, too, needed 'smaller' portions than mins, although to be factually correct, I really needed a smaller nicotine hit than even minis could provide. So, I am using coffee filters and making my own portions out of that. One coffee filter provides ten 'pouches,' if each one I cut from a filter contains
three ridges. I then use one click from a 3 ml Icetool which I plop on the narrowest part of the cut coffee fliter. I then roll it up like a joint, I mean ryo cigarette, smush it flat, then fold the ends over on the homemade portion. This gives me the low level nic hit I have been looking for, but also less of a 'burn' than even mini portions. To me, the minis had too much 'burn,' and by that I don't mean the nic burn, but the burn of the soda ash (I assume) which frees up the nicotine. The fact I get double the baccy out of a can of loose is just icing on the cake. Why pay high prices for special bags, and pay shipping on top of that? You can get coffee filters at dollar stores and one pack will last a very long time as portion material. It seems the paper allows quick absorption as well and the portions last just as long for me as the portions I get from Sweden. I actually prefer the homemade portions to the premades, but than I have always found the flavor of loose to be superior to the flavor of portions anyway.
