It sort of depends on what you mean by shelf life. An electronic cigarette sitting at a gas station is not the same as a bottle of nicotine in a pg or vg solution. With respect to just bottled nicotine, storage life is about 1 to 2 years (PG lasts longer than VG).

1 to 2 years at room temperature.

Kurt the chemist and a few others have reported over 5 years with no degradation or flavor change from their freezer stock.
I just finished my 10/2013 RTD (from the freezer)and it was as good as the day I received it.
Oxygen is our friend but no friend to our nic.
I asked Essential Depot's owner how long their PG & VG are rated for and he said at least 5 years if it's kept cool.

Leave a bottle of nic in the sun or on a table or shelf in a hot room and it'll probably be nasty in a few months.

Yeah I have heard nic lasts nearly forever if kept in the freezer. VG and PG should still be available for making soap and the flavors are actually food flavoring. I think they have the shortest shelf life but I have used some that have been left at room temp that tastes just as good as new. WA isn't going to try to stop vaping they just want to make a bundle of money off of it same with the herb for recreational purposes it is legal but there is a 75% tax on it. It's all about the money they are losing by people quitting cigarettes. They plan on I forget how many millions of dollars by putting this tax in and 60% goes into the general fund, their wallets.

Legs,

I am not sure that Nicotine last forever. As I said earlier one of the two big DIY online shops has a whole section on storage and shelf life. In any case the one that has all the info posted also sells Free Base Nicotine that is packaged for long term storage. I think they said they fill the bottle with the nicotine purge the empty space with nitrogen and then hermetically seal the bottle. And that was the stuff they said was good for 2 years if kept in a freezer at -20.

So OK they sell the stuff and you can probably get a better shelf life than what they say... so OK three years but I am not sure about indefinitely.

By the way Rip Tripper has a video on how to tell when your juice goes bad (I think I will watch it again) but anyway I will wing what I think I remember about the vid. Because he is a cloud chaser no matter what he says the juice I have seen him use is most likely MAX VG low nic and crystal clear. In the video he pulls out a bottle and it is dark brown and he goes on to say that when it turns dark you can bet it seen the end of it's life.

If I ever had e-juice turn from clear to Kahlua color like he shows I would take it straight to the Porcelain Thrown and get rid of it. (let the department of sanitation take care of it) ;)

But I sure do like the rational behind your stockpiling the nicotine knowing that you will always be able to buy PG and VG. As far as the flavoring I am sure you will always be able to get that too but if not the stuff the I buy from "MY Freedom Smokes" 50/50 24mg unflavored is pretty darn good all by itself. Also I have a half of a 120 ml bottle of the stuff that has been sitting since I got it on a kitchen shelf for approx 14 months. and i just used some the other day. It is still clear (maybe a twinge of light light tan color) smells fine and tastes a little sweeter than when it was new when I vape it.

OK Legs, I hear ya yelling at me... I quit rambling and on Monday if that law passes in WA I will buy a few 120 ml of 100 mg 50/50 and stick them in the freezer. Hmmm... does that make us vaping Preppers.

My Freedom Smokes sell the pre-mix 50/50 24 mg for $8 dollars per 125 ml which I think is a pretty good price. And if you watch their sales sometimes they have free shipping on top of a 20% discount.

Yep and with the ease of Paypal you can get what you want through a friend in another state and have him ship it to you. They aren't going to be able to go through every package that comes into this state from a private party.

Legs, I am pretty sure unless they have reasonable cause that a Federal Law is being violated they can't even open a package period. As long as it is not outlawed by the feds you'r Golden. "I could be wrong"

I can make 312 100ml bottles of juice with the nic and 100ml of flavor is good for 50 bottles. I have gone through 1 gal of PG/VG in a year. Going to get a couple more so will have 3 and it will always be available.

Unless my calculations are wrong.
3785ml in a gallon = about 126 - 30ml bottles

At $20 a bottle = $2523 per gallon
That's in part why I'm starting to diy my own.

People this is so off topic but I just decided to make my own juice. I am on 20 ml a day! That cost more than smoking for me.

So I ordered this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8w9tshhrXak

Anyone know the heat cycle I can use? I am thinking 70c and an hour mix at 300 rpm. I can go to 1500 but that may be bad for ejuice? Anyone used thermal mixing? I would imagine this is how the pro's do it?

Sorry to be so off-topic but you all are too! Thanks for any advice too :)

I use a $30 POS Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner with a 3 minute timer.
I use an elastic to hold the "on" button down with a piece of dogfood kibble.
I run it for about 5 30-45 minute cycles.
I've been beating this thing for 2 years like this. Best $30 ever.

150°F or under won't degrade the nic.

here's some threads re: nic & steeping tools

If they pass the law in WA state Monday after Oct 1 it will be $320 for an SX.

So the legislature is voting on one or both bills on Monday? The legislature web site only shows that they've been reintroduced in this 2nd special session. might have start stocking up sooner than I thought

I freeze my nic at around -38C (-36.4f) and I also freezed flavored eLiquid (strait menthol) for 4 months without any change in flavor.

Regards
Tony

Sent from my keyboard through my phone or something like that.

I asked my local pharmacist what would be the best way to store & shelf life for my VG nic base

Brown glass bottles filled to the brim in the freezer should see many years was the reply

I pushed further for what is many years & she said something about it will not go off although the % of nicotine will lower but at the mg I have nothing to notice

I guess I could just drive down to Portland, OR where there is no sales tax. Well, at least until they change their laws.

Definitely, it costs about a 5th or less for me to mix my own & already knowing the flavours you like is a good place to start with diy
A bad mix can normally be recovered by adding flavour or pg vg & nic .... think I have had to throw just 2 mixes since I started
That's a few cents down the drain

Papa this device will give you a good heads start when mixing as I like to warm my mix & give it a good shake before steeping

50c-70c should be fine will depend on your bottles not starting to melt/deform

I use tap water in a tub at about 65c & drop my bottles in it for only a minute

Warming it mainly to make the vg thinner & mix easier

I would guess [but don't know] a minute in your machine at 65c/300rpm would achieve the same as I do

I do think though that 'time' is your best ally

Have seen many posts on what will & not improve mixing but I find its just about leaving a mix long enough

As in fruits seem to be good to go in 3 to 4 days

Multi flavoured mixes a week & longer for creams & custards which need at least two with a month being best

I don't even shake the bottles every day now, once when mixed & maybe once or twice whilst steeping if I remember then a shake before use & :vapor:

Ok, so (a) the whole DIY thing is off-topic, but (b) we've got a bunch of great people here who know a bunch of stuff that is helpful on the topic. I haven't done DIY yet. My largest concern is that I don't want to spend a bunch of $$$ on flavorings only to find I've wasted my time. So how about we start a new thread where we can talk about what is the best and bare minimum setup one needs to do DIY with temperature control? The goal should be what is the best set of flavorings to buy to enable several good recipes along with recommended TC settings.

Basically, what I see as being of great use is the following: a thread that says these are five great recipes, this is how you make them, and this is how you vape them at specific temperatures using the SX Mini (and our condolences if you bought a DNA40). ;)

Oh wow! Thank you sooo much! The reason I went for this device is it is lab grade liquid mixing. But I really need to get my temps right and 65c sounds fantastic.

The one I got is the Eppendorf Thermomixer R 5355. They are last years model and sold for 3.5k for the basic unit. And another 800USD for the thermal block. Silly money people! However, I got mine on ebay. And it came with the 50 ml conical tube Thermal block. Meaning I can make 50 ml batches times 4 (200ml). And I can program all kinds of modes and look forward to experimenting. I will not be using NIC. Just a simply all day vape. I am still smoking a little. But now I have my M class and Kayfuns working I can trully stop smoking now for good. Thanks to all of you!

If anyone in london wants to use it then please let me know. Here is the video that made me want one. All I now need is a phamacist to give me some good advise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsAVq8u3foc&list=PLFF14D1058155D6E1

Anyway, thank you so much Quantum Mech! I will defo report back how I get on.

Btw, there is an older model on ebay in the UK for £300! But it only has the smaller thermal block.

Yes this is sooo true! I first needed to get my m Class set-up working and you all gave me hope. Now I am up to speed. The next logical step after learning how to make a good coil and wick, is juice :) And juice for temp control is very on-topic. So thank you for that.

Oh I am in such a good mood today! If someone does start a new topic then please let me know where it is. I am lost on these forums. I only read this thread as most of what I read was wrong. I only trust reports from users of the same devices.

Good stuff people

So I ordered my SX Mini M yesterday from Vapinart, they have a all back one that I cannot find anywhere else. Not even a thread mentioning it. Hope its legit. SX Mini M Class Black²

I ordered my Vapor Flask DNA 40 from them and it was genuine (back before it was ever cloned), but since this pure black one is not on any other site that I can find I am a little worried. Anyone else ever seen or heard of it?

Cloud 9 have asked YIHI for some as they were for a vape show. That is nwhat Cloud 9 told me anyway. So maybe this is the company at the show selling them? If so you are lucky!

Hope they release an all black one for everyone or even just me :)

Give Vapinart a call if your willing to pay international shipping they may work with you. When I bought my Vapor Flask the color I wanted was out of stock on their site, and I gave them a call and they checked their retail location and sold me one that was there. They sent me a email the next day with a link that had the order all set up for me on their site and all I had to do was enter my credit card. I was pretty impressed with the customer service. The number I called did seem like a 3rd party company that was handling customer service issues for them, but they took care of me. The back SX is in stock right now.
