In this case, the metal tubing was not cleaned of it's factory protective coating before it was powder coated and the wind blew the nice shiny powder coat flakes off in 2 to 6 inch pieces...
It's not strange if you fail to prep the metal. I had several problems training people to powder coat properly. Temperature and oven time makes a big difference also. There are also problematic areas like corners and edges sometimes that refuse to accept the powder because of the electrostatic charge, especially with earlier equipment. Preheating makes for a much better coat. If manufacturers don't use proper procedures, their powder coating can easily fail. It can result in a soft coat that will rub off, flake, blister etc.. I've seen all kinds of results.Bikenstein,
That is really strange - actually I often took my stuff over to the Coat shop but never watched their procedure. The stuff I was having coated was for the Corning Glass that made the LED Gorilla glass and if anything had flaked off like that I would have been in deep Poo-Poo. Any particles getting on the hot glass would have spelled my demise.
Awesome. Not sure they're going to get anywhere with KanthalBut Stainless should be very possible with Yihi's supposed 0.001Ω accuracy (at least it displays to 0.001Ω so hopefully it's accurate to that level)
I used to do a lot of powder coating, and still do from time to time. Proper prep, proper application, and proper bake and cure are essential. It is better than standard paint in many areas. It's not the end all coating, but it's very nice and extremely durable. I always thought the coating on my SX felt like powder coating.
