I saw a video of someone using some fancy coil maker (in one of those Zirconium wire videos).
Video here:
Anyone use them? I've always used, at least for microcoils, those little "coil maker kits" (
like this one) that I got at a craft store way back in the day. It's still kind of big and cumbersome... the coil makers I saw in that Zirconium video seems nice and compact and awfully convenient. They also look like I would waste less wire (on my current coil maker I need to cut the wire a bit longer than needed so I can rig it all up in the coiler)
I have soft Zirconium wire coming so it probably/hopefully won't be as big of a deal as the harder, springy Zirconium, but still.. they look easy, quick and convenient!
So.. is it more of a gimmick or do any of you find these handy?
I've been on a spending spree getting new stuff since I ordered my TAE (zirconium wire, cotton bacon, spare o-rings, spare glass pieces, etc..) kind of debating on grabbing one or two of those coil makers.. but it looks like there are individual ones with specific coil diameters... are there any out there that have multiple diameter rods in one little package?
I dunno, maybe I'm just trying to burn holes in my pockets haha, but the quick and easy coil maker does seem appealing! I still don't really know what diameter I'm looking for as I've never used Zirconium wire before and have always stuck with small microcoils, and on the TAE I need to bump up my coil diameters to fit the extra cotton needed.. still need to find my ideal wire size, coil diameter, number of wraps, etc... so I don't really know which one(s) I would like to purchase.
Anyway.. if you guys find these handy where might I find a good
shop to purchase?
edit:
Looks like this is what that guy is using?
Found this one on Amazon as well... multiple sizes.
I'm sure there's gotta be more/better ones... thoughts?
edit: sorry, I know I've been flooding these forums a bit lately! As for "coil makers" I think for now I will just stick to what I have.. still curious about them, though.
