As a side note. I tried running the Blackend theme that has the social media buttons disabled and noticed no difference in my slow loads. I run adblock plus and do not tracks plus anyway so I didn't expect much. Not entirely sure what's causing the slow page loads at this point other then possibly a bottleneck in the dns servers.

Edit: I also get timeouts and slow loads when simply checking my notifications, PM's or My Posts.

Ditto... what he said. I also tried the "blackened" skin (last week) with no improvement.

@rolygate - I was speaking to the script required to log-in. For me it is yahooapis(dot)com.

I thought you stated that FB is required to log-in. Could be we are talking about different contexts. I haven't allowed (ever) the FB script to run at ECF .

@tib - I know, it's frustrating. I've always thought it's been the social buttons that've caused the slowdowns. roly and others have provided evidence that supports that thought. Are they the cause? Too many factors for me to understand.

Part of the problem we have here is the reports we get are not "helpful". Since the monitoring suite is not picking up anything abnormal what we really need is something like this:
I was attempting to access this thread : url goes here at time goes here. I got this error: error code goes here.
My operating system and browser are: you get the picture :),
Traceroute follows:
pasted traceroute return

making sure you state the approximate time and time zone will help our tech guys in searching the appropriate section of the logs. Also any additional information such as what plugins/extensions you are running and any special tweaks you have made to the plugin settings can be extremely helpful.

8:48 am eastern i got this error code:

The connection has timed out

The server at www.e-cigarette-forum.com is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

i'm running xp pro with ff 14.0.1 add-ons > no-script, dnt+, spellchecker

i was at http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-veterans-welcome-forum/ , trying to get to http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/search.php?searchid=11639351

There may be some Flash Player issues going on inside this problem. I experienced lag and video artifacts in thread with a large number of embedded YouTube videos recently and solved the problem by rolling back my Flash Player version. For more information, see this short thread. There's only 6 or 8 posts in it, but the FP versions are listed if anyone is interested.

BTW, Blackend is snappier than Kirsch for me. I'm also thinking that those of use who are routed through certain servers are experiencing more issues than others. ISP identification could help to see if there's correlation between the problem and the ISP.

For the most part, I'm getting page loads in the 2 to 3 second range on the average for the last week or so. Only occasionally do I get "Waiting for e-cigarette-forum.com"

I'd also like to hear which DNS servers are involved with people who are seeing the lag problem.

Inquiry; Just a thought but maybe just maybe, face book connect it "hitting" some ppl more then once. With more the one request to link up? I just had a PM questioning me seeing face book in my noscript as many as 3 at once.... others do not see 3 on NS so I'm thinking the glitch may be in the number of request FBC is sending? It would explain the lag for some and not other .It would explain the lag I get on a monster of a machine. IF 3 request were sent out just mil sec apart anyone would be bogged down, no? Noscript just allows me to see it....

Firefox gives me status messages on the bottom left to indicate what's happening. All browsers should do that in some location on the screen.

If it says, "Looking up <URL>" it's doing a DNS conversion of a URL to an ip address for the next step in determining the path to direct it to a server with connections to the destination. That's a message that says the DNS server has a lag problem. Each packet in the stream has to go through that process and the next hop destination ip has to be changed to be delivered correctly.

After a certain amount of time or hops (encoded in the packet) the packet is dropped and a resend request is sent to the initiating computer. Lots of dropped packets can really slow down response.

If it says, "Waiting for <URL>" it's waiting for that site to respond and the problem is lack of response on the server that controls that site. This indicates insufficient resources on an individual server to handle the traffic. Your link consists of many servers in a chain to reach the site you are on. Each one can create lag if its busy.

Listing these messages would be a good place to determine where your ECF link is being waylaid.

Well to be on the positive side I will say that I have not experienced and lag or slow loading on my phone (android ECF App) or on my PC (Fedora /Opera). I know that this isn't a "gripe" but sometimes it helps to know what DOES work so you can think a little about the differences between what works and "what has issues".. (positive enough for you Oldsoldier?)

It is quite possibly related to the way windows browsers are coded along with windows networking. I'll have to install windows on my computer and reboot into win7 and see someday when I''ve got the time. I could try xp but something tells me that XP issues are likely to never be resolved since XP is mostly an abandoned and obsolete OS waiting for complete EOL implosion.

well, if ff messages are fail-proof, then it is an ecf server problem. once i get past the ''waiting for www.e-cigarette-forum.com'' message the page loads are pretty much instantaneous which includes the so-called mega threads ........
