That's why DruidPriest said trueish. PG is used for that, but when it is stated by the media or FDA it tends to be alarmist, and not explain that PG is used as antifreeze in potable water systems,is safe for human consumption, and is used in many everyday products that people use such as toothpaste. It always seems to be stated by the media and the FDA as if since it is used an antifreeze it must be poison.

Yes... just like that other study, the 'nitrosamines' one... FDA recommended that the e-cig should be banned, because they found nitrosamines in it. Forgetting to state that the levels found were identical to those found in the Nicotrol inhaler, wich FDA itself deemed as safe for long-term use...!

On the other hand, they hide in their webpage the true risks of Chantix and varenicline... something not even Pfizer is allowed to do!

Is FDA alarmist and biased? Not really...

Agree with the last part but vaporizers for that "other" tobacco have been around long before e-cigs. Just sayin.

True, but I think the flavors kind of makes it more of a ecig thing, rather than the other. Also it talks about "harmless water-vapor", which is also another major ecig tell... along with many other popular ecig "slogans", like it being healthier and can be done in many areas like restaurants etc and is not limited to the current laws (which would be for cigarettes).

Although I have zero experience or knowledge about the other type of vaporizing, so maybe both are closer in definition than I think?

I dunno, but to me the wording seems to be formed directly from the ecig world.

That's not water--that's dihydrogen monoxide!
What are some of the dangers associated with DHMO?
Each year, Dihydrogen Monoxide is a known causative component in many thousands of deaths and is a major contributor to millions upon millions of dollars in damage to property and the environment. Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:

Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
Contributes to soil erosion.
Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
Given to vicious dogs involved in recent deadly attacks.
Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere, and in hurricanes including deadly storms in Florida, New Orleans and other areas of the southeastern U.S.
Thermal variations in DHMO are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect.

What are some uses of Dihydrogen Monoxide?
Despite the known dangers of DHMO, it continues to be used daily by industry, government, and even in private homes across the U.S. and worldwide. Some of the well-known uses of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:

as an industrial solvent and coolant,
in nuclear power plants,
by the U.S. Navy in the propulsion systems of some older vessels,
by elite athletes to improve performance,
in the production of Styrofoam,
in biological and chemical weapons manufacture,
in the development of genetically engineering crops and animals,
as a spray-on fire suppressant and ......ant,
in so-called "family planning" or "reproductive health" clinics,
as a major ingredient in many home-brewed bombs,
as a byproduct of hydrocarbon combustion in furnaces and air conditioning compressor operation,
in cult rituals,
by the Church of Scientology on their members and their members' families (although surprisingly, many members recently have contacted DHMo_Org to vehemently deny such use),
by both the KKK and the NAACP during rallies and marches,
by members of Congress who are under investigation for financial corruption and inappropriate IM behavior,
by kids who play Beyblades,
by the clientele at a number of bath houses in New York City and San Francisco,
historically, in Hitler's death camps in Nazi Germany, and in prisons in Turkey, Serbia, Croatia, Libya, Iraq and Iran,
in World War II prison camps in Japan, and in prisons in China, for various forms of torture,
during many recent religious and ethnic wars in the Middle East,
by many terrorist organizations including al Qaeda,
in community swimming pools to maintain chemical balance,
in day care centers, purportedly for sanitary purposes,
by software engineers, including those producing DICOM software and other DICOM software tools,
by popular computer science professors,
by the semi-divine King Bhumibol of Thailand and his many devoted young working girls in Bangkok,
by the British Chiropractic Association and the purveyors of the bogus treatments that the BCA promotes,
by commodities giant Trafigura in their well-publicized and widely-known toxic-waste dumping activities in Ivory Coast,
in animal research laboratories, and
in pesticide production and distribution.

Whew some dangerous stuff, makes me thirsty reading all that.

Not to mention the vegetables we eat everyday: even after extensive washing, DHMO still remains there !!!

Tough chemical, eh ???

Here's one I read last week: http://www.independent.co.uk/voices...imply-reinforce-a-terrible-habit-8867160.html

Title of the article: E-cigarettes simply reinforce a terrible habit
Description: Very little scientific research has been done into the effects of these devices

Something that bothers me, some people just don't like to research and begin slapping based on their "personal belief". This author specifically mentioned, "Very little scientific research has been done". Then how can she write, "Ecigs reinforce a terrible habit"?

These authors should base their assumptions or beliefs over some sort of evidence. Just saying, "There is not enough information about vaping products but since I think it sucks, it definitely sucks", doesn't make sense at all. Such authors should be directed to this link: EU Parliament Acts: E-Cigs Not Medicine! - ECF InfoZone and then they should be asked to post a public apology in continuation to the stupid article they posted based on their person belief.

But propylene glycol is used as antifreeze. No much for common automotive antifreeze, but very common for "RV" antifreeze to winterize fresh water lines, toilets, etc. So there's more truth than fiction that we're inhaling antifreeze.

Funny factoid: I use Biotene spray to combat vape mouth dryness. Third ingredient in the spray? Yup, propylene glycol. :/

That's the most ironic thing I've ever heard since it's the PG that gives me the dry mouth in the first place. I used to get dry mouth all the time until I switched to an all VG vape, haven't had one since.

All up in your grill..
SJ, I think I understand what you are trying to do here. When people search out scare articles it brings them here where they are thoroughly debunked. So far that's not happening. I could spend the next hour linking to CASAA and typing up long winded explanations as to why the junk science can be ignored, why certain groups have a conflict of interest and whatnot and it will just be buried on the thread. I'd also question how much weight my opinion carries regardless of the quality of my answers due to my status as a vendor. This is a pretty good idea if I understand what you are after here but I think it's a little far fetched to expect random members to carry this burden. Isn't there some other way you can structure this? Like maybe modelling it after the ask the vets forum? Maybe you could set this up like a stickied FAQ where in order to attempt to debunk each scare article the poster can prove that they are qualified? The rebuttals will carry more weight if they are coming from someone like Bill Godshall or Joel Siegel then from someone like me or randomnoob1234987. Just a thought. I'm not unwilling to participate but it's not clear that doing so will be worthwhile, to be honest. We don't want this to backfire and give legs to anti-ecig propaganda.

I am compiling a list of common household products that contain PG and/or VG. So far I have dial hand sanitizer, and biotine mouth rinse. Just started today ill post something by Wednesday.
Many air fresheners contain PG. RV antifreeze is mostly PG and water. KY Jelly contains glycerin.

All these products have PG in them. I keep this photo stored on my phone for when someone argues that PG is dangerous image.jpg

Some flavors of Mio water enhancer also have PG in them.

Sigh...

Cotton candy and ‘Atomic Fireball’ flavored electronic cigarettes are forging a new pathway to addiction, death and disease

I had to put put that in big huge letters, and couldn't even read the whole thing, which seems to have been distributed by a service that only appeals to outlets that allow registered or subscribed members access to more than the headline and first paragraph. In this case that was the typical mis-reading of the recent CDC report about minors and e-cigs...

The article is by American Lung Association board chair Ross Lanzafame and president and CEO Harold Wimmereven.

I found it in its entirety at Cotton candy and but I didn't read the whole thing - I know what it'll say, I'm sometimes really discouraged with all these flagrant lies put out by apparently qualified and professional people like these. But the bull seems to have them all on its horns, if you know what I mean...

sigh.. stupid people will be stupid... and people paid by Big Pharma will spout crap against any product that is a competition to their master's source of income

In German, we have a saying "Wes Brot ich ess des Lied ich sing" = If somebody feeds me bread, then I will sing the songs that he likes

As to the nonsense: no, e-cigs are NOT a gateway to smoking
http://www.ash.org.uk/files/documents/ASH_891.pdf

Of those who had never smoked
a cigarette, 99% reported never having tried e-cigarettes and the remaining
1% reported having tried them “once or twice”. We found no evidence of
regular e-cigarette use among children who have never smoked or who have
only tried smoking once.
