I'll see about doing an inch conversion for you the next time I bang out a few darts, but you can pick up a clear plastic ruler that shows mm. for less than two dollars at an office supply store. The smaller increments really helps with accuracy.

Michael

Thank you SailCat. I will do that.

I have been using this mod for more than two months and it is great. I am thinking of getting the Low Resistance atomizers from NHALER and am wondering if the BFD keeps up with them. Do you have any experience and what is your recomendation?
Thanks as always.
Those LR Atty's are all I use now! I have several HV Mods sitting collecting dust! To answer your question, yes. No problem! Although it seems like I'm tearing through juice with them!!8-o

I have been using this mod for a month and it's perfect. Absolutely genius. Holds a great amount of liquid, vapes completely dry, easy enough to refill if you've got tweezers. I highly recommend if you've got VG liquid because that's all I use. I used PG once and it leaked (it's thinner), and this is probably because I optimized the dart for VG (not as thick foam so it wicks better). If your leaks, pull the foam more out of the straw and shorten the straw (so there is more foam preventing leaks). Honestly if you do it right I can't see how anyone could not have great results.

Important considerations are:

1) Make sure the blue foam is completely level with the top of the cart. No less, but definitely not more.

2) Don't make your straw so long that the atty bridge touches it.

3) I'm not sure if this helps, but cut out two triangles at the bottom of the straw (the side without foam sticking out) so that liquid can flow in and around the dart.

4) I always hold my PV upside-down after a few puffs to allow the liquid to saturate the dart.

i've only been vaping for 6 days, but i was unhappy with the stock filler on my 510 after my first couple of hours with it. i tried the PTB and straw mod, and since it worked a lot better, i thought i was done. then i found this thread! i was so intrigued that i immediately ran out to get blue foam.

the only "hard" part is getting the foam into the straw (or q-tip stick in my case), and honestly it's not that bad. once i twisted and pinched the foam small enough to get it in, i would twist the straw in opposite direction (the same motion you would use when you're removing an atty from the battery) while pushing the foam in.

thanks to the detailed pictures, it only took minutes to put together and it worked like a charm. i've never vaped a cart that dry before! i even started chain vaping to drain all my other carts to do this mod on. :)

Pete, thank you for this!

The Blue Foam Dart Mod is something I came up with after reading through and trying several similar mods by eclypse and Kristin.
quick question.. what if you dont use the straw at all?? Does this work? If not can you tell me the reason the star is needed?Sorry if you had covered this somewhere in this thread.. I did not realize it was 31 pages..LOL)
Thanks

Well, this uses a stirrer not a straw and I'm not sure what "star" you are talking about.

Just wanted to add my .02$ and this in reference to an 801 cartridge.

I tried Kristin's PTB fill for my 801/Janty Stick, with a little disbelief about how it would work. (I got the LAST box of PTB Island Mango Peach tea, they haven't had any since in our big walmart.)
I eliminated the straw, because the cart on 801 doesn't need one, the barrel of the atty works with the cart as if it is the straw, with chambers up two sides for vapor flow.
I used 2 layers, or one whole tea bag, folded double and stuffed in, trimmed flat, and I must say I was very impressed, first of all because the filler is stiff enough to stay where I put it, just touching the atty bridge. Of course there is less juice held in the cart, (too wet is not good!) but I do believe the vape is just as long, the old poly filler always held a lot of juice in the bottom, even after the top dried out.
Something else I noticed was how pristine the taste of the juice stays, no flavor changes at all. Poly (or wool I used sometimes) always broke down and got mushy after a time and the juice got kind of punky after awhile. Time for a new one. But, the PTB does not go soft at all. And doesn't leach out juice when left for a long period of time, the extra one I carry in my purse for example rarely gets used. But when I do take it out and refresh it once in awhile, it's always been ready to go. I've used the same filler for a long long time, months.
And enjoyed the Tea, no end!

The stirrer acts as a support, keeping the foam at the correct height. Without it, the foam would be pushed down into the cart. If you fill the entire cart with foam it not only holds less, but it doesn't really wick well. The foam is only there to prevent leakage and wrap around the bridge to keep it wet. Just try it as it shows in the first post. Those of us that have actually taken the time and effort to make a BFD know how well it works.

Pete, best dam mod on planet.
Tried the rest, been stickin with the best.
'nuff said.

Can't wait to see how it performs with the mr. puffer.
Funny you should mention the Mr Puffer. I was thinking how perfect it would work with that top loading system. The juice looks like it enters the cart just above (if you're holding it tip side up) the foam area of the dart. If that's the case, you could refill the whole cart with a few squeezes! I tell you it's so confusing right now in the e-cig world. I've been trying some of the new 510 cartomizers and they work pretty freakin' well. They hold over 1 ml of juice and last for a few hours! I'm right on the fence as to which way to go. BFD with a top loading juice system or carto's. PLEASE let me know how it works for you when you get the Mr Puffer.

Thanks!!

Got the MP1 today in the mail... YEAH! Thing's awesome. I use my Bartleby often, but I think that will change. The box is the same 2xAA size so it feels the same/weight/etc. No learning curve on refills either. Since the tubing is clear, you can see what's going in.

Didn't even try it with polyfill. Pulled it out & popped in a BFD. You're right Pete in that the tube enters the cart at the bottom of the reservoir. Works great!
