I'm not off work for over an hour yet, and my first BBox is waiting at home for meeeee!

So, do these things (Rev-3.a & under) only do VV between 4.0 and 6.0 volts, in 0.25 volt increments?
5.5 volts max. It uses a dial so you could move it even less than .25 increments I think. I'm not an expert on the Rev 3s though so don't quote me

If you do get the AWs from RTD, I'm guessing you mean these:

*NEW* AW IMR 16340 550mAh 8A

Protected? I don't think so.

Options. :)

Oh man, yessireebob.
Kat :), The AW IMR's do not have protection because they are a "safer chemistry" battery. If they vent, it would be with heat only and no flame. So basically, they can burn the bejeebers out of your hand, but won't catch your carpet or pants on fire. :) I've used them exclusively for the past 5 years, and (knock wood) never had one go nuclear on me.

Just curious...is anyone still using cartos with their BB? Thanks!
I do when I'm feeling a bit lazy. :p I have lots of Boge slotted cartos, and also a very few of the Raven cartos (filler-less) left.

Thank you - very helpful! Are they easy to cut down? I have never done that and am not sure how to do so.
I just happened to have a pipe cutter in the tool box, which works very well. Just don't apply TOO much pressure! It looks similar to this:

I've got one or two of those around here somewhere, they stunk with the "tank" they came with, but never thought about using just the carto in the BB.

I never bought the tank, just the cartos! Sadly, I don't think they are available any more.

wish it wasn't you! Did you ever get your eyes fixed???
Nope. I have the retina doc blaming the cornea doc for it being worse than when they started and vice versa with the cornea doc. If I don't come out with positive results on my next appt. I'm going to an attorney.

dadgummit!! I am glad you'll seek legal recourse. You've been horsed around and messed far too much! Really hope you can find someone who can help you!

Thank you, Bamrz. Indeed, the IMRs are known to be a safer chemistry (vs. a protected ICR). I only meant to let HB know that the red AWs he was considering were not protected batts.

A safer chemistry battery is still susceptible to failure, even catastrophic failure. That failure CAN result in far more that just heat only, and a simple hand burn. I believe it's important that we all realize that we are dealing with mini sticks of dynamite, no matter the battery chemistry, when it comes to lithium-ion batts.

Pictures of serious battery failure - IMR 18650

What exactly does "IMR" mean?

The article on IMR batts was a very good read. Thanks, @Katdarling.

One of the (several) things I learned is that ICR batteries can be overcharged, while IMRs can't. Does anyone know if the chargers we use (e.g., XTAR) will overcharge a battery? Mine appears to stop at 4.2, but I'm now curious. As well, does resting a battery after charging mitigate that risk? TIA!

I get the best performance out of Trustfire flame jacket batteries. I have around 5 different brands but they outlast the others

I know you have mentioned these before and I have never owned any trust fire batteries. Everyone seems to say don't buy anything with the name fire in the title. So they are really ok then. Because they seem easy to get.

I have been told the same thing (and haven't been a pyro in quite some time)! I try to stick to recognized names from reputable suppliers, as raqball said.

I know I'm about to ask a very loaded question here… But, I am a spoiled Provarinati...
How the heck do I know when it is time to change the batteries?
I'm not going to be able to notice a difference in performance… And without a battery meter, or gauge, I'm not really sure I'll know!

I guess there's no harm in charging the batteries every night… Lithium ion batteries don't really care about full use/charge cycles.

I also don't want to attempt to continue use of the device, if the batteries are too low on charge. Is there any protection in this device at all?

As always, thank you in advance for all the help and support!

I vape mine until the batteries cutoff and never had a problem with charging or battery life.
"Red AW IMR 16340's tend to lower in voltage near the end of the charge resulting in a noticeable performance drop before they stop working.
The Black AW ICR 123's tend to keep their output and performance constant almost to the very end with only the last two or three vapes showing signs of final discharge."

Same here. I use the black AW and you get a couple of splutters warning then cutoff. I do changeover every morning and start the day off fresh. :p
