Might Pedro come out in support of Dr. F? It could happen, and it wouldn't be because he believes in that particular issue, but he believes in the bigger picture of common good.
Am I missing something? You really like Pedro and still you suppose he can lie because "he believes in the bigger picture of common good"?

This isn't even an issue for contact coils. Yes, to make them work right, you have to dry burn them. It's not going to be a big deal.

Not sure where you're coming from Dzaw. It is a big deal for someone who thinks they have to dry burn a coil to make it work right, but dry burning the coil is unhealthy.

It's cool Magaro. I'd like to see Farsalinos come clean as much as you. Pedro won't take any stand but to express support for Dr. F's contributions towards vaping safety. It's who he is. If you knew him, you would understand. That avatar picture I have? It was a gift from Pedro. Along with a handmade leather wallet to hold the mod and batteries. It was worth thousands at the time he sent it to me. Only because we're both wine lovers, and vape lovers, and appreciate well made things. And connect on some other levels. I can't tell you enough good things about him. As I said previously, he will err on the side of caution for the vaping community. Dry burning an atty, even without a bridge, is still in the presence of the S.S. canister that contains it. Might he advise against it? Possibly. But he has not stated that. But as I said, if he had a concern regarding dry burning Kanthal or torching it to a microcoil, I'd be able to find it. It's just not there. I'm really kind of disappointed in Dr. F. Might Pedro come out in support of Dr. F? It could happen, and it wouldn't be because he believes in that particular issue, but he believes in the bigger picture of common good. Just that kind of guy. It's why I am so vehement in my support of him.

I don't know Pedro - honestly never heard of him before today (I've only been vaping for 6 months). But with friends like you who support him so passionately, I suspect I may like him.

But that said, this just makes me even more concerned with how Dr. F. dragged his name into this sh!tst0rm and claimed him to be a materials science expert who supported his ludicrous claims about dry burning causing "molecular degradation" of vaping coils. This whole issue just gets more disturbing by the minute.

Here we are, virtually bashing each other, over an issue caused by a third party who can't even be bothered to explain himself.

My apologies to you.

Cheers.

I hope you are wrong in guessing what Pedro might do. I hope he would support the truth rather than support a friend who failed to recognize the truth. I believe the common good always comes from the truth not from untruth.

By the way --- I doubt Pedro can post on this thread. As a mod maker, he would only be able to do so in his own thread or forum or by invitation into another registered supplier's thread.

So, calling him here to discuss with you anything, is not possible, and actually, a tad arrogant perhaps?

Don't know about Dr. F. Sorry.

I have enjoyed this thread and the discussions --- all this metal talk is quite interesting and the discussions of molecules was quite entertaining. I do take the side of molecules as I've more of a chemistry background --- but I can see and understand that other view and found it fascinating.

Does he have a thread? Sorry, I haven't checked. Has he posted anything about this? Just curious...

And I don't think there's anything "arrogant" about asking for an explanation. I think perhaps LouisLeBeau has given us the reply we needed.

Oh no. He won't lie. I would expect he will couch his response to not undermine a respected advocate, while maintaining his integrity. You've never seen that? As a business owner, I've had to perfect the art. Who are we trying to kid? You seem like a very smart guy, you'll be able to read between the lines.

Actually, I doubt he will respond to it. He has his admirers, ignores his distractors, and does what he does. He'll leave it to Dr. F to show integrity, or throw him under the bus, and probably won't much care either way. But it's just a guess on my part. I'm sure I'll be impressed either way. Classy fella.

Edit: I'm pretty much done on the subject of Pedro Carvalho in this thread. But I think that Lucy... er, Dr. F., has some 'splainin to do.

Blessed civility. I wasn't going to participate further in this, but I would like to point out that the poster who posted the snippet from Pedro's blog, that I suggest is inconclusive re Kanthal, started their post with this statement "I think that Pedro (from Caravela Mods) , who also participate in Farsalinos answer about the radio declarations about dry burns …may be a lot to do with these statements."

Now that is the opinion of that poster, and "may" is a word worth noticing. It is not definitive nor does it indicate that Pedro''s known aversion to heating S.S. crosses over to Kanthal. I assume you, like I, have not watched the 1+ hour video to have an opinion of our own. But since we've crossed swords so to speak, I feel a debt to you to do so. If you do also, we can discuss that. If there are any specific statements specifically BY Pedro that you might take exception to, I might be inclined to forward those questions and ask if Pedro would care to give a response. But please note, he does deserve respect in my opinion, and it will be required if we're going to proceed.

As I go back and review the recent posts in this thread, I realize that I want to amplify my apologies to you for your defense of Pedro. It appears that Dr. F. has likely done him a great disservice by dragging his name into this issue. Unless Pedro steps forward and personally acknowledges his support of Dr. F's untenable claims, I can't see how he can be held responsible for any of this. I wish that Pedro had found a way to defend himself in a timely manner, but as a "Type B" personality, I can appreciate not wanting to engage in this fiasco. In any case, my apologies. I personally will try to focus my wrath on the one deserving of it moving forward.

Where, one might wonder, is Dr. Farsalinos while all this transpires? He surely noticed quickly enough when we all "overreacted" to his initial apocalyptic warning...

I'm finished defending our current vaping technique against his irrelevant "opinions". As far as I'm concerned, dry burning has been acquitted based on lack of evidence. I'm going to go study Kanthal, Nichrome, Titanium, and Nickel to satisfy myself about how to best use or not use them in my coil builds. I really don't expect to find anything that will cause me any grave concern. Either way, I will be sure to post any useful data-based findings for those who may be interested.

Back to the lair...

I can appreciate your newness to this scene. It isn't that he CAN'T be bothered, it's that his friends, knowing his disposition about these teapot tempests, WON'T bother him. This is squarely in Dr. F's corner, as it should be. I've said I'm done with it, but the history of the mod, and the machinations of internal and external forces to obtain one is searchable. Through it all, Pedro is a gentleman. Lots of others profited on another mans passion and kindness. He gets protected by his core friends for a reason. You've no idea how many Sh!tst0rms this mod has created, and the effect they had on the mod maker. It's ECF lore.

I REALLY want to walk away from this. I do. But what "mod" are you talking about? This is about the dangers of dry burning coils, and the "molecular degradation" that Dr. F. claims happen when you do it. Which I believe, based on my understanding of the scientific literature, is nonsense. Dr. F. professes that Pedro supports this claim. Does Pedro support this claim or doesn't he? That's the entire issue as as far as Pedro's role in this little drama is concerned. Or am I missing something?

And my "newness" to this scene isn't the issue. At least it shouldn't be, because this is really about a fundamental issue in materials science.

If Pedro is NOT supportive of Dr. F's inflammatory statements about the dangers of dry burning coils, and the molecular degradation of the metal, and the generation of Cr(VI) from coils during vaping, then I would have to say that Dr. F. has overstated his "support" and that I, personally, apologize to him for any distress this thread may have caused him, and that Dr. F. owes the vaping community an explanation for this entire fiasco.
I did find it curious that there was no statement specifically attached to Pedro I thought it was just me

Those of us who played with titanium before TC existed have given it at least some thought. I don't dry burn titanium; I sorta steam-clean it. I do still dry-burn Kanthal though.

Listen to this comment - there's a lot of wisdom in these words.

I like this comment so much that I'm going to have to take a much closer look at rayon. And that isn't easy to say, because I really like my little "boil, boil, dry" ritual with my Japanese cotton pads.

LOL...
I used to do that dance with cotton then I found that rayon worked better and boiling did not one whit of good for it.
Now I've gotten the rayon lazies and I'm getting better vapes. (and with titanium coils btw). I hasten to add that I like titanium for it's mechanical properties compared to nickel (with TC mods) and some pseudo-placebo positive effect on the vaping experience that I cannot prove is real but I choose to believe is there! Try it. I bet you'll like it.

Personally, I think a Moderator should post Dr. F's response directly below the OP's original post so the subject is clarified early in this thread.

The first OP post simply didn't make much sense, until Dr. F responded to Flamingo tutu.

Regardless, great information here in the 27 pages, have a great evening everyone.

There is a lot of information we lack, the more the merrier.

Magaro, I thank you for sharing your expertise in the subject Dr. F posted.

Dr. Farsalino's "response" went from a tone of "disastrous"...... "the worst thing you can do" in the radio interview ........to....."unnecessary"...."not recommended" in his blog printed comments. Not really a very definitive addressing of the statements in the original radio interview which are being quoted as a reason to ban vaping entirely.

Yes, I read the entire thread....which is why I think his response to the original post should be placed below the first post, so folks don't have to be scared to death until they read the Dr's response.
