Good point. There's already so much trash and waste in vaping it's ridiculous.
Really? My waste is a a tiny bit or rayon wicking every few weeks, a tiny bit of Kanthal a few times a year after a coil has been dry burned a half dozen or so times and still looks cruddy, and a couple of worn out 18650s every few years.

Other than that, my vaping produces no waste at all. I DIY my juice re-using the same glass bottles I've had in service for years now.

So I guess it depends on how one goes about this vaping thing, ;)

I agree with this on the waste, aside from random stuff. I tend to use more papertowels.

I’m sure it may have come up in this thread or the gargantuan original thread....but here’s my two cents which is on sale for a penny.

I see this playing out in a few ways:
Smoking age will be raised to 21;

and/Or, no more vaping products sold in convenience stores...regulated (heavily taxed) vape shops only (like liquor stores in most states);

And/or it goes on as is and after the industry tanks, Big Tobacco swoops in and plays the good guy role by buying up majority interests in vape related products and the patents associated with, and voila, all of a sudden at that point the FDA will approve everything and at the same time mandate a license for purchasing VG, PG, flavors, nicotine. Part of that deal will be a new law that reads if you are caught making your own you’ll be HEAVILY fined or imprisoned.

It’s all about the $$$.
Lobbyists and politicians aren’t getting rich on this stuff...well, not yet. They will.

I wonder what kind of tax our dear government will slap on things when this all shakes out? Ejuice now, $20. This time two years from now, at least $30 if not more.

It’s the same reason companies like Phillips Morris own very large areas of land that aren’t being used right now. Once weed is legalized federally you’ll soon be able to Smoke some Marlboro Happy Grass.

All about the money. I mean the kids...ITS ALL ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!

That would indeed take a new law -- an act of Congress, signed by the President -- because that's not within the FDA's power right now. It's entirely legal to make any tobacco product you want for personal consumption. I'd be surprised if that changes any time soon.

I agree my waste is minor. But living in the "dog world", literally, people are slobs. They think nothing of their waste. Ever stay in a hotel (not Motel 6, but better quality) and seen the cig butts, beer cans and other garbage on the ground near doors? Trash can right there people!

Dog world - people should pick up dog doo in public places. Dog shows? Want to know how many times I have nearly missed (or not) stepping in crap people don't pick up? Drive along, see the trash on the side of the road?

Sorry, not meaning to be a downer, but people are slobs and will just toss their used pod or whatever on the ground, toss it in the ocean, etc. Maybe not a big impact, but an impact all the same. Every little bit hurts.

Not to reflect in all, some are responsible, but my personal experience shows more "I don't care" then "I care".

Myself and SMT started a PM session with one of the new vapers who dropped in yesterday concerned about the deadline. He's two months into his journey and does not feel comfortable knowing all he needs to know before the deadline. So SMT and I are getting him going on gear and building so he's prepared.

I gave further thought about a separate gear thread. My fear is this: Every time a newb asks about gear he gets inundated with people who recommend THEIR favorite piece of gear. I termed it "dogpiling" in an earlier thread. We see it almost every time someone new hops on ECF and asks about an atomizer or a mod or whatever. Poor guy ends up more confused than when he went in. So many people telling him so many different things. The newb hasn't got a chance! So if we start a separate thread dedicated to gear for newbs I'm afraid it will end up being the same thing. Counterproductive. Newbs haven't got years. They have only months.

However, I am convinced SMT and I will have this new guy up to speed in plenty of time working thru PM. I have no doubt. We're off to a nice start. We will have him channeled in and he will progress swiftly with gear that will take him well beyond the deadline. I believe this is the very best approach for newbs...1-3 people working directly with the newb thru PM. It's possible a separate thread could be useful but it would operate more like a dating site. A newb shows up and we match him/her up with 1-3 experienced people (volunteers) and they go off on PM to give him/her their undivided attention. Maybe a lady hops on looking for help and would prefer working with other ladies instead of one of us manslobs. The thread could also be used as a guideline or course of action to get newbs up to speed (not gear recommendations, just action plans) But if it's like all other gear threads we will see dogpiling and make things worse for the newb.

I'm open to more thoughts.

I totally agree.

If anything, this deserves its own thread. More experienced vapers could post if they are willing to assist, and what areas of knowledge they have strengths in. Newer folks could select a person or three who would have the info they seek.
And what about offering up the Shiny thread as a sort of relief valve?
There are many very experienced regulars on a daily basis and many gear deals do get posted there.
Just a thought...

Also the Low Budget Shiny thread.

Got my gallon of salt nic from LNW yesterday. Bottling today.

Since we're already off the rails--

I've been using nanophosphate batteries in 18500 and 26650 mods. Very safe chemistry, long battery life--but one big difference. They run at 3.2V. They stay at 3.2V, then they eventually drop off to nothing rather suddenly. So you can vape them dry.

So, of course, they only work with mechs. I'm liking the results of running subohm coil builds and heads at 3.2V. It's a subohm world, and this is one way to keep the vapor cool. It's also a battery chemistry that is completely disassociated from vaping. They're used mostly for solar lighting.

The only nanophosphate batteries that I've seen in 18650 don't have high enough current ratings for even a low wattage wizard like me. I'm sure they're coming, though.

You mean LFP?
Lithium iron phosphate battery - Wikipedia

18650s here:
A123 System High Power Nanophosphate LiFePO4 18650 Rechargeable Cell: 3.2V 1100 mAh, 30A Rate, 3.52Wh
30A, but only 1100 mAh, so about 1/3 the Wh we're used to. That said, looking at discharge curves recently, I'v concluded that I really only use the top 1/3 of my batteries anyway, so with slightly revised builds, they'd probably work.

I'm guessing you mean LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) for the chemistry? I'm using those in 26650 in a tube mod at the moment (26650 squonker on the way). There are 1100mah a123-18650 LiFePO4 rated to 30 amps (have some on the way from Europe, but can't vouch for them or the seller yet) --- they can be found in the US:

A123 System High Power Nanophosphate LiFePO4 18650 Rechargeable Cell: 3.2V 1100 mAh, 30A Rate, 3.52Wh

but they had ridiculous shipping charges to ship to Canada.

edit: also, LFP cells typically have 1000+ cycle life as well.

I mean nanophosphate, which is the description of the chemistry on the wrapper. Of course, the 18500's (different brand) have LiFePo4 on the wrapper. Battery life is deceiving. When these puppies fall off, they're pretty much dead. You can definitely use more than the top third.

For me, though, the biggest attraction is the voltage.

On edit--I found those 18650's for $5.99 at 18650 Battery Store (shipping is reasonable)

Some places do use "nanophosphate" as the descriptor for their LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) cells.

And yes, the voltage, or rather the stable voltage under most of the discharge (flat discharge curve) is appealing ... it is practically like having a constant voltage mod, except it's a mech :)

Wonder if they will allow on-line purchases.

Part of that deal will be a new law that reads if you are caught making your own you’ll be HEAVILY fined or imprisoned.

It always seemed likely they would restrict the purchase of bulk nicotine. I don't know if the FDA could do that. Or some other agency. Or if it would take a new regulation from Congress.

A law was passed in Indiana a while back, later repealed. The literal wording of the law would have allowed you to make your own juice, but it would have been an offense to sell it or even give it away. Several States have banned the import of juice from out of State. Maybe hardware too, not sure.

It’s all about the $$$.
Lobbyists and politicians aren’t getting rich on this stuff...well, not yet. They will.

That might even work in our favor in the end. If they clamp down too hard the market could wither away to nothing. All the profits would go to the black market. Are they smart enough to figure that out?

I think it's entirely within their power to do so. After all, it is either a tobacco product or a drug.

I honestly did not know you could do that. I smoked for 10 years and never had the thought to make any tobacco product so never put any thought or research into it. I presumed it was illegal. Thanks for the info.
