AH - A Silver Bullet - "My" favorite and first Mech mod that I won at a local vape meet approximately 5 years ago, wish it still worked . . . More importantly, wish I didn't PIF all the kicks I had either, only one left is still in the bullet . . .
Oh Well - that's Life - maybe some day I'll find someone to fix it . . .

I have two kicks stowed away, mine are not Evolve. They do go to a cloud chucking 15 watts.

Thats funny :)
I mtl at 6-9w and for DL I have I have an rdta set up at 9w
I do also have a DL tank at 50w and a RTA at 80w jst to see how the other half live.
I could be quite content at 9w mtl or DL.
I feel like ya’ll are laughing at me.:?: (j/k)

As far as my understanding goes, 1.5-3.0/5-10watts seems limiting in the sense of people this would be useful for. Don’t people safely use mechs far outside that range.

Just struck me as funny how diverse vaping can be.

There’s something weird about it that’s similar to a mental tongue twister. I get left with the same state as when someone rattles off directions in a new city and are like “got it?” and the hesitation stutter step, uhhhh yeah, I think, uhhh.. and then you get in your car and realize you have no idea where to go. It’s kind of like that for me.

The fact a mech is actually in the mail headed my way (which I don’t even plan to use) has brought about a reality check that was previously eluding me. It’s a good excuse to get smarter I suppose.

I don’t understand this part. Is this not low?

“The settings range is from 5 watts to 10 watts.”
That was fairly normal at the time. When the DNA30 came out that went to 30 watts, lots thought it was craziness.

That puts it out of my range, for sure. I do have a couple MTL things, but nothing I’d use on a mech. So far so good with not exploding myself. :)

What range do you stick to as far as ohms etc?

I feel like I got it but the test of actually putting it up to my mouth and hitting the fire button, nope. I don’t have that much faith in my abilities right now. Not necessarily that I’d get something wrong but more like I’d overlook something.

I prefer .3 - .4 ohms.

Just use Steam engine and keep your coil in the safe zone, check your atty on a regulated mod, use a reliable battery and check your battery/wrap every time, make sure to install it properly. Take the battery out when not in use or when you are going to put it in your pocket.

If I missed anything, please feel free to add.

The folks here will answer all your questions and please do ask if you’re at all uncertain.

Everyone was very helpful to me, and I only got my first mech a few weeks ago. I felt very at ease by the time I got my first Luna. The first full mech, I held that thing as far away from my head as my little arm would reach, lol.

But I go through my mental check list every time I put a battery in one and I feel pretty confident about it now.

Most of my mods are mechs - have been since clear back in 2010.
I keep my coil builds between 1.2 and 1.8
I check on a meter every time and then a visual inspection for possibility of coil touching cap, put the cap on and check it again on the meter.
I always first fire at arms length.
Each draw is fired away from my face as I am moving to take a draw., kind of one motion.

Do you have a meter to test your builds ?

I fairly sure I have all the main checklist covered but things like, for instance I was watching a video on hybrid connections on mechs and it was pointed out on those you need to have your atty on when you put the batteries in. I never would have thought that would be an issue because with my reasoning if there is indeed a short it would be there independent of the atomizer.

Things like positive up/positive down, some people have different preferences, two different camps for that are:

1: Positive down incase it vents it won’t vent in your face.
2: Positive up so that if the side of the can shorts it will dump through your atomizer giving it load as opposed to going straight to +\- were the battery positive down.

Little nuances like that are what concerns me so I’ve just been hanging out collecting little tidbits of what people suggest.

@classwife, I have 2 ohm readers and then 4 regulated mods that show ohms so between them I can get a fairly accurate idea. One of the readers, a coilmaster, I think just reads whatever it feels like reading that day. The others hold pretty consistent.

what ohms and watts do you vape on regulated mods?

on mechs, i like 0.25 ohms with a 20amp battery. Factoring in performance, that outputs around 50 watts

Daily driver is .25 ohms at 56 watts and then I have an rdta with quad core claptons that ohms a bit lower at .17 and I set that to 60 watts.

Batteries are Sony VTC5a, both dual battery mods.

Shoutout to Mooch and everyone that helped me along in my looong battery thread.

Okay

Single battery mech you don't want a lot of mass. You could build the 0.25 with 26awg, or a thin Clapton, maybe 28/38 or similar. Vtc5a are a good choice for that
Fused Clapton etc would ramp up very slow.

Should I keep it above .3? I watch a guy pretty often on youtube and I’ve heard him mention to keep it above that on mechs as a sort of loose suggestion.

Since I have “cloud chuckers” with the regulated, one option that’s crossed my mind is to mix up a higher nic% juice and find a single coil mtl rba/rta. Some of the more “high end” looking tanks I see people post would look pretty nice on a mech, you know what I mean? Like the taifun/kayfun, more oddball (not mainstream like a zeus x style) ones that you see around if you look hard. They don’t seem to be as easy to find as the popular tanks.

Something like that and then run at low amps. I hadn’t really even considered what to put in it. I have some dual 26/36 kanthal on a spool but I just got it so I’m not real familiar with how it ohms out. If I do go the mtl route I may go with round wire like you suggest, I think it will perform just fine and won’t need to be spun up.

I guess this is going to be a long post but one factor on my mind is, how do you accurately gauge battery life and when to swap your battery? Is performance steady and then drops suddenly, or is it a gradual decrease? Or is it something like, I know I get a tank and a half out of this battery and it will be at 3.5 volts?

I agree! I've been doing DIY for almost 5 years now, and most of my local friends who vape...either DIY, too, or I make it for them.

Things like the Dank Vape cartridges though, are totally different. From talking with several teens and early 20-something's...the people who usually buy the black market cartridges aren't looking to vape eliquids at all. They're specifically seeking the alternative stuff, for the buzz they get from it. They know what they're buying, but not what else might be in it, too. ;)
Dank only supplies empty packaging not product.
Here's an accurate video from Now This referencing Gregory Conley & other trusted sources.

Here's the article that Now This refers to
Dank Vapes Is the "Biggest Conspiracy" in alternative entertainment That Can Put You in a Coma | Inverse
Prohibition causes black market.
Get carts from regulated dispensaries only if you GAF about health & life.
People shouldn't need to risk their lives to choose a non-traditional form of relaxation and/or pain relief.
