I aint messin' with you!

You know what they say: guys gotta do everything the hard way or the macho way. Me, I like simple. Plus, we all know I hate to fiddle with stuff...go right for the path of least resistance. Should we add this 'fix' to the fix stuff thread?

A real man would have put a bullet through it and collected the nic in his hat.

I am not that creative, I would have just punched a hole in the bottle.
Curious, how would you have gone about that?

The plastic bottle was relatively thick. The childproof top was the kind that seems to only turn in one direction and has a clicking sound while it turns around. I gave the bottle to my brother for him to try, and he was unsuccessful, too. So it wasn't just me.

I have this weird, really sharp knife or I would have hammered a sharp nail into it right by the neck of the bottle.

    For next time...

A lot of the child-resistant caps are made with a regular inner cap that attaches to the bottle, and the larger spinning cap that is supposed to catch onto something on the inner cap when you wiggle your nose and stick your tongue in just the right spot in your cheek.

If the caps aren't locking together properly, I have a selection of slip joint (or channel lock) pliers that I can use to put enough pressure on the outer cap to squish it against the inner cap and hold them together enough to make them turn together and open the container that way.

My dad used to call those child-proof caps, "People-proof caps".

It all started with that Tylenol tampering case back in the early 80's.

And now if I can't get one of those caps off I hand it to a child to help me get it off.

I have one of these, the brand is Kuhn-Rikon, you can adjust it to fit all the way down to a twist off bottle cap....it's about $25, but has saved my rear MANY times...YMMV, but it's possible that it would to what @cats5365 described.
I have a couple of new jars from WL, but did not notice if they had that same cap.
I can check tonight and see if it helps/works.
