    Somewhere between here and there
I need to put in an order to restock some of my regulars. I wanted to order from BCV but they don't carry TFA menthol and I have to have my menthol tobacco. I saw MFS is having a 20% sale but they are way higher on the 4oz bottles so I'll probably end up ordering from perfumers apprentice.

That's about what juice costs in my local B&M. I've even got a punch card from back when I was buying juice, only need 2 more punches to get a free one... *sigh* I got started on DIY and that was pretty much all she wrote for buying ejuice. If they'd ever stock anything that was 85% PG, I might go on and get those last 2 punches, but I don't see that happening. *sigh*

Yeah,it's about the same around here for the house brand juices,$8 for 10ml $12 for 15ml,and $18 for a 30ml.That is exactly what drove me to diy 2 weeks after i started vaping, was the prices. When i smoked,i bought the ryo and was spending $10 a week,so no way i was going to double or triple that cost to buy juice,i went through 60ml my first week of vaping, and after spending close to $40 for it,i went on my diy quest and never looked back haha.

When it comes to the 4oz. bottles, ordering direct is absolutely the best deal.On the smaller sizes,i usually use Bull city or Wizard, but yeah the big ones always get ordered direct.

Haven't tried my mix/trial yet...the rice part probably going to be challenging, keeping eye for cliffy' s mochi notes too

Update: So in my quest to find a mochi recipe (sweet rice flour flavored, basically) I:

    - First started with TFA Rice Crunchies (and got a couple of other flavors based on suggestion - the most notable one being pie crust). Upon first smell, LOTS of cereal ... very little rice. Tasting the initial mix confirmed that the Rice Crunchies just has way, way too much of the cereal involved.

    - Ditched that idea and found both a mimic flavor (toasted almond and coconut that I found hinted at on Reddit) and a sweet rice flavor from DKS (Italian).

    - DKS Rice, while supposedly 200% flavor is very subtle if my sense of smell is correct (and that sense isn't my best). Still has a hint of that grainy, cereal-y smell. I think I would have to use quite a bit of this. Not my first choice to test because it is more expensive and time-consuming to procure (got mine from bargain vapour and wow, did they ship fast) ... also I could only find the flavor concentrates in 10ml bottles.

    - I immediately opened the TFA Toasted Almond and took a big whiff. Even more promising... has a sweet, light flavor with the "toasted" part being much less pronounced than the Rice Crunchies. I can definitely see how adding a bit of coconut could quite possibly produce a cooked rice note. Crossing my fingers that this, a bit of coconut extra, and MAYBE some pie crust will give me what I'm looking for.

I don't think I'll be able to do any testing until tomorrow at the earliest but I'm still hopeful that either the TFA combination or the DKS rice will work. I'd personally be at a dead end if none of these options work, but I KNOW there is a mochi flavor out there (since I've had some!)

edit: btw... I figured I'd just flesh out my order with some other flavors but taro surprised me and might be applicable in this project as well. It's smells sweet, slightly starchy, and a little earthy.

Great notes Cliffy, thanks for sharing:)...yeah there's gotta be a way to get rice, I had a mango sticky rice before when I was with craft vapery so it's out there somewhere somehow...still haven't tried my mix...working on the Tfa fudge brownie...pretty tasty actually being that I normally avoid chocolate flavors, gives a chocolatey room note too

Wizard sells menthol, but i don't believe it's Tfa,it's listed under Wizard flavors. They do have the liquid or crystals though, and their liquid is probably the same as what Tfa has, they are both 10% menthol.

my though on trying to create Mochi would be TFA yam flavor
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll have to try that if I make another order! (I've already put in two over the last week... I may have to take a break, heh)

I'm currently in testing now. I originally tried it with strawberry but the taste was getting drowned out so I switched to try and focus on the mochi flavor by itself. mixed up a batch of

    12% - Toasted almond
    2% - pie crust
    2% - sweet cream
    2% - cotton candy
    2% - coconut extra

and the verdict is ... not bad! too sweet though. so I should probably focus on the main flavor before sweetening. I think maybe this doesn't need a cream at all. mixed it up without pie crust initially but the mix definitely benefits from it.

I think the biggest issue I'm facing is that this is such a soft, delicate flavor and my taste seems to be anything but.

okay... I think I'm headed down the right path and am probably as close as I'm going to get although your tastes may be a lot more sensitive than mine.

toasted almond and coconut (I used coconut extra) does appear to get you quite close to rice. a tiny bit of cotton candy gets me to an approximate of "sweet rice" by dks. I did the comparison by mixing up a 2ml single flavor mix of dks sweet rice (this stuff is quite strong and it's so sweet - sweet is primary and rice is very subtle) and comparing to a 2ml mix of my approximation of rice. all mixed were made 50/50 pg/vg

while it's not exact, it's quite similar and may be sufficient to use in rice recipes. I mixed mine with pie crust to add a bit of flour to the mix but I have very little in the way of bakery flavors. donut might be good? cupcake didn't work out for me.

as I said, YMMV. at this point I'd rather stick with the tfa approximation than have to buy flavors in 10ml pieces if can find an adv I can mix with it.

that being said, if anyone want to help me refine things I'm all ears ... I could even pif a 5ml of dks sweet rice for comparison if you're serious.

I won't be pif'ing any actual mochi samples though as that won't survive the trip [emoji14]

That seems like a whole load of Toasted Almond!
During my experiments with it I found that even 1 - 2% will drown out other flavours in the recipe, it does leave a nice lingering taste though.
It also managed to kill my tastebuds, meaning that I could not taste other juices when vaped after trying a juice with Toasted Almond in.

Obviously it is all subjective and all that, but you might want to give a greatly reduced amount a try.

Yes, it definitely was a lot but it was on purpose [emoji3]

The reasoning behind it being that, what little I found on it, as a secondary flavor toasted almond (at 5%) with some small percentage of coconut tasted "ricey".

My intention was to create a small sample of high-flavor mix of primarily toasted almond to get a taste for the major notes. My taste buds have a hard time with very subtle notes *grin*

But what I found was that the rice taste was still VERY light and easily masked by other flavors and sweeteners. It's going to be tough to make a mix with rice as the dominant flavor it seems (and the only ACTUAL rice I've found was dks ... everyone else has had a firm of rice krispies but those all skew toward the cereal flavor)

Still working on it and my next attempt will be with the almond somewhere around 5-6% but I will also be making a batch around 2-3% to see if the flavor actually scales like I hope it will.

As a side note, getting a true mochi flavor is going to be tough as the flavor is easily overpowered. I went down to a B&M yesterday to purchase a mochi eliquid (first purchase of finished juice in a loooong time) that's very popular here. It was delicious but I was quite disappointed to find that it didn't have an authentic mochi flavor. It was thick, heavy, and very VERY sweet. I swear I tasted something like Bavarian cream, custard, and even cupcake (maybe cake batter) in there! I swear it reminded me of a strawberry Twinkie. It may be that people's brains hear "mochi" so that's what they taste of it. It did for me at my first taste (someone gave me a tiny sample) and I didn't notice until trying to create the flavor from scratch.

If any of you have had e-liq cube's pink starburst you'll probably agree that it is delicious and heavy but doesn't have the same authentic taste that Bill's pink starburst has. this is the same notable difference that I've noticed with the purchased mochi flavor and my first couple of attempts.

My first attempt of Sticky Rice Mango was ok for me. I use 2% cheesecake (LA) to create rice note. In Thai dessert recipe, we wash sticky rice in alum solution to make sticky rice look shining and this process make sticky rice taste little sour similar to cheesecake (not very similar but it is close to cheese smell). I think 2% is good enough if more than that it may become buttery smell. I will wait until my TFA order arrive then I may try to add some thing on it. Right now I am ok with this first batch, on exhale there is sweet sticky rice on it. Sticky rice mango is the dessert I cannot get enough of. I can finish 1 kg every day. :p

This is what I do in my first batch
    Mango 5%
    Coconut (LA) 5%
    Cheesecake (LA) 2%

Have you tried adding a little strawberry (or strawberry ripe) at 1 or 2%. I find it makes fruit flavors a little brighter. I have always been disappointed with TFA's mango flavor.

I have strawberry ripe on the shipment I would definitely try it on to improve the mango flavor. I have Philippines mongo coming too.

Also regarding mango...I blend phillipine(tfa) with cap sweet mango...sort of how some blend cap sweet strawberry and strawberry ripe or tfa blueberries-extra and wild...trying to keep my mixing as simple as possible lately...going for 4 and under flavor blends for most part ....think hubs used my mango trial....or I accidentally gave it to another who doesn't give detailed feedback....ugghhh..darn it! Very interesting notes on rice lately...not sure if I can do 4 or less with this one...rice aspect more complicated
