Haven't tried my mix/trial yet...the rice part probably going to be challenging, keeping eye for cliffy' s mochi notes too
Update: So in my quest to find a mochi recipe (sweet rice flour flavored, basically) I:
- First started with TFA Rice Crunchies (and got a couple of other flavors based on suggestion - the most notable one being pie crust). Upon first smell, LOTS of cereal ... very little rice. Tasting the initial mix confirmed that the Rice Crunchies just has way, way too much of the cereal involved.
- Ditched that idea and found both a mimic flavor (toasted almond and coconut that I found hinted at on Reddit) and a sweet rice flavor from DKS (Italian).
- DKS Rice, while supposedly 200% flavor is very subtle if my sense of smell is correct (and that sense isn't my best). Still has a hint of that grainy, cereal-y smell. I think I would have to use quite a bit of this. Not my first choice to test because it is more expensive and time-consuming to procure (got mine from bargain vapour and wow, did they ship fast) ... also I could only find the flavor concentrates in 10ml bottles.
- I immediately opened the TFA Toasted Almond and took a big whiff. Even more promising... has a sweet, light flavor with the "toasted" part being much less pronounced than the Rice Crunchies. I can definitely see how adding a bit of coconut could quite possibly produce a cooked rice note. Crossing my fingers that this, a bit of coconut extra, and MAYBE some pie crust will give me what I'm looking for.
I don't think I'll be able to do any testing until tomorrow at the earliest but I'm still hopeful that either the TFA combination or the DKS rice will work. I'd personally be at a dead end if none of these options work, but I KNOW there is a mochi flavor out there (since I've had some!)
edit: btw... I figured I'd just flesh out my order with some other flavors but taro surprised me and might be applicable in this project as well. It's smells sweet, slightly starchy, and a little earthy.
