Proposed law in SC will allow concealed carry to any gun owner, even without a permit. The law will not extend into other states or into businesses that prohibit weapons on premises.... Im kind of torn about this one. I think its good to allow everyone to carry, but it will be putting weapons into people's hands with out any sort of training.

I agree with you. Too many complete idiots for this to be a good idea.

On another note: Does anyone know of a good scope mount option for a Remington 700 in an Advanced Armament Corp stock? There's no rail.

Not my pic, but same rifle:

I was sort of on the fence about it too when I first heard about it when I was still living in SC.

But when I really started thinking about it, I realized that I'm all for it, 100%. While I believe everyone who carries should seek training on their own, just for sake of proficiency, I don't feel that the "training" you go through to get your CWP in South Carolina really does anything to deter idiots from carrying. It's just a simple written test that ANYONE can pass, and the life-fire portion is pretty much nothing. 50 rounds, and only something like 36 or more must hit (anywhere) within the black from varying distances (can't remember the exact distances). None of that is any insurance against mishaps while carrying in public.

(Yes, I took the class and received my CWP when I was living there.)

Also, there's already a handful of states where you can conceal-carry without a permit. Arizona, Vermont, Alaska and Wyoming. I haven't done any actual research on it, but I haven't heard of more accidents, etc, there, compared to states that require permits to carry. If that were the case, I'm sure it would be thrown in our faces on a daily basis by the Brady Campaign and the like.

Just my $.02.

On another note, I also heard recently that the "no carry in places that serve alcohol" law in SC is trying to be overturned. I hated not being able to go out to eat while carrying, just because the placed served alcohol. I don't even drink.

hey, first time on here. newbie to the whole handgun thing. to tell you the truth, i haven't shot a firearm in 20 years. use to as a kid till i turned 13, then somehow just stopped for no reason. i blame not going to the ranch and keeping myself occupied with music more than not. anyway, just got myself a springfield xd 9mm. sad thing is i can't find any freakin' ammo to take to the range or to my friends ranch to go shooting. he and his dad made a makeshift shooting range out on their ranch, but he's been stocking up on ammo for the day when we can all go out together and go shooting. i'm just thinking of biting the bullet and getting a large quantity and keeping 300 for myself and using the rest for target shooting (since that's what i did when i was kid and loved it). i hope to get well enough to eventually move on to rifles again and start skeet shooting. always wanted to learn.

what's a good cheap rifle to get started once i decide to make the investment? right now concentrating on a guitar amp and a nice slr. also if i seem like a newbie, it's because i am. i havent' fired anything since i was 13. havent used a compound bow either. :(

Welcome! You're going to love the XD 9mm. What size is it?

Before we can suggest anything, there are a few questions you need to answer. What type of rifle do you want? Semi-auto, bolt, lever, break or pump? What caliber? Budget? And most importantly, what will be the primary use of the rifle? Home defense, plinking, long range precision shooting, SHTF rifle?

If semi auto in .223/5.56, I'd go ahead and try to find an AR-15. Like a S&W M&P15 or a Palmetto State Armory. If you can find it and afford it, Colt makes a great rifle. Before you buy, let us know how much it is, if you'd like to. We can all let you know if it's a good deal or not. Just be patient and expect to see a lot of BS panic pricing.

If you want a lever gun, Rossi makes a sweet fire stick. I really, really love my M92 .357Mag lever Rossi.

Bolt action: Can't go wrong with a Mosin Nagant. Super cheap and really fun to shoot (if you have a recoil absorbing rubber .... stock pad- they really do hurt, and I'm not recoil sensitive at all). Or if you want something new, a Tikka or Remington 700 in either .223/5.56 or .308 is great.

If you really want to shoot for cheap, a Savage MKII is an awesome little .22LR bolt rifle. The MKII FV-SR comes with a threaded bull barrel for a sound suppressor. A suppressor isn't necessary and a bit of a PITA to obtain, but for me 100% worth it.

Another awesome rifle is Swiss army surplus K31. Talk about great engineering and some awesome history.

Ammo is going to be tough to find for now, but it will be back in stock like normal when all the BS blows over. There are a few ammo/gun search engines that will help you. Also, if it's out of stock, click on the 'notify me' link and it'll email you when it's back in stock. Just be ready to jump; ammo's been selling out pretty much everywhere in minutes.
