So, today I learned that rolled oats and steel oats are the SAME thing. Nutritionally, like comparing oranges to 'oranges'. So sad. They are no better or worse than regular oats or so dr. google tells me.

Up on the soap box....

There are three basic types of oats. There are old-fashioned rolled oats, which are whole oats rolled flat. Then there are quick oats, which are rolled oats that have been ground up a little bit more to make them cook faster. Finally, there are the steel cut oats, where the whole raw oat was cut into smaller chunks.

They all start from the same grains, but they are cut differently. Rolled oats are steamed slightly to make them cook faster, but otherwise, they aren’t any different from steel cut oats.

The extra processing isn’t that big a deal, because you have to remember this process called digestion where you break down food to absorb it. So these oats are all the same once they get past your mouth.

So you see, rolled oats and steel cut oats are the same food, just cut differently. Saying they’re vastly different in nutritional value is like saying a sandwich cut straight down the middle is healthier than a sandwich sliced diagonally into triangles!

Down off the soap box....

I freeze blueberries and strawberries in sandwhich baggies in my freezer. I buy them by the case in the summer and have them like this for winter. Every morning, I take a freezer baggie out and huck it into the sink to thaw for the day. When I make a salad, the thawed fruit is a gooey mess but it's AMAZING on a salad and you don't need any salad dressing for your salad either.

I went to the inaugeration tonight for the school board here in the city where I live. (I'm actually involved in politics. Some call me 'top dog'.:2cool: I was a good girl. I hit the buffet and had fresh strawberries (smoked gouda), fresh cantelope and watermelon (smoked gouda) and some pineapple slices (brie cheese). The items in brackets are things I ate that I am NOT admitting to eating tonight. I stayed away from the hard-core buffet nummies like processed meats and I had a few wheat thins with hummus while I drooled over the various cheese cakes while chewing on my knuckles. Well, not really but it sounded good. Overall, I only had about 12 small pieces of cheese so although I bit the dust today with not eating 'clean' it was clean enough.

I'm an East Coaster (for now) who has almost always been on West Coast time. So I'll jump in to say that you showed amazing restraint tonight and should feel very proud of that. :)

There is life here. YEAH....I was a good girl, wasn't I? hehehe Thankfully, I ate before I left so wasn't really hungry but had to nibble anyways. My son however ate most of the strawberries that were there before he came back with a WHOLE plate of pineapple. hahaha It's going to be fun working and jogging in the rain tomorrow here as we have a big storm here right now. Last I checked, we are getting 2 inches of rain tomorrow with winds gusting to 25mph (it was tough to convert that to AMERICAN. HOLY!) so that calls for shorts. I know it sounds insane but in winter if it's pissing rain, I wear shorts as its easier for your legs to dry than for soaking wet clothes to dry. Yup, we Canadians are a wierd lot. hahaha

I got a new IPhone and started using the health app on it just last week and it's awesome. Has anyone installed the human app which keeps track of your activity and you put in a goal of a min of 30 minutes of activity of day for example. It syncs in with the health app. I'm still learning a bit about it but it seems pretty neat. I also downloaded a running app that is hooked up to gps so I can run around my new neighborhood without getting lost.

I felt great the day after my workout until evening, then I started to get soar. So I did some light stretching exercises and feel much better today except for my tummy. I think I ate something that didn't agree with me. All I ate today was two bananas & three cups of coffee and water.

Worked a little bit in the garden moving potted plants for Mama Chak. Time to work on the decorations a little, then to the market.

Wow. That's one hell of a workout! You should be able to pretty much eat WHAT YOU WANT doing all of that. Why would you even work out after working out like that at work? lol Did that make sense?

He doesn't, I think that was the point he was trying to make.. That his work is so physical he doesn't need a 'workout'.

Goal today: Nothing. I need to give my body a break.

Breakfast: Rye/pumpernickel swirl toast with a light coating of peanut butter - 1 piece. Actually did this today :)
Lunch: Half a sandwich - rye/pumpernickel swirl bread, less than a tsp of miracle whip on one side. One slice of swiss, two thin slices of ham and some romaine lettuce.
Dinner will probably be a salad and I think I may incorporate some fruit into the salad. Now to look in the freezer to see what I have available.

Weight this morning: 139 :(

Robin,

Don't let individual weights get you up or down. My weight bounces about. Look at your weight in thirty days over a three or four day average.

What you have to believe in is METHOD. You are eating the right things, and making a real effort to get plenty of exercise. Not to mention, you look great to begin with! So, chin up, cheerleader!

I totally agree with Lion Robin. I went through a time where I watched the scales like a hawk; weighed myself several times a day. I hit my goal at the time, but I was hungry A LOT! I am 5-6 lbs over that impossible goal now, and I'm happy.

Just completed 4 miles on the elliptical, less resistance, faster pace. (still took the same amount of time:confused:) Added 2 sets of 10 ball crunches and 2 30 second planks. I used to be able to plank for 60 seconds. Going to have to work back up to that!
