Ok so I am really new to vaping. Only have had my kit for a day. My question is are you putting the juice in an empty cart then putting the filler on top? If thats the case dont you get a mouthful of juice? I know stupid newbie questions. Im just trying to make sense of this.

No. The carts have space for the liquid. The little hole in the mouthpiece is not "connected" to the liquid reservoir, it's "connected" to the little holes in the side of the cart.

Use a flashlight to inspect one cart and you'll understand.

I would guess that the small piece of polyfill you used is tight when you stuff it in so that it doesn't get pushed back too far when it contacts the atty. I'm using the blue foam mod with the straw and a longer piece without the straw (for thin juices). The whole purpose of the straw, as I understand it, is to provide some strength so that the atty doesn't push the plug back down into the cart. It keeps the plug in contact with the atty for better wetting.

It would be good if there were a thread that compared the available juices for viscosity. I'm fairly new and discovering lots of gotchas here and there. The Virginia juice I just got in today is almost water thin and floods the atty with the straw mod. I had to cut a piece of blue foam long enough to fill the cart to keep it vaping and not flooding. It would be nice to know which are thick and which are thin before buying. It wouldn't have to be a technical evaluation, just a "this is a thin juice", "this is a thicker juice", some description in between.

Wow. What a simple-looking mod. One question, though: How does this mod work on an atty with an exposed bridge?

[edit]

I'll tell you how: It works just fine. Never having had another PV, I didn't understand that the basic design of the bridge is similar to those with shielded bridges, but with an exposed bridge, the shielding is just part of the mouthpiece. I overflowed on my first attempt, but after a little cleanup, it works great. Thanks for this simple and effective mod.

Thanks,
Mike

Highping, I just had to let you know that I've been using your mod for over a month now and haven't looked back. It's so nice to be able to fill a cart and vape for several hours without having to top off. I'm no longer wasting juice because when I refill, I usually have maybe one drop left in the filler and when it gets stale, I can just toss it or rinse it and start over. I just wanted to say "Thank you" once again for sharing your very simple, yet very effective method. Oh, my hubby gave it a name about 3 days after we started using it and I LMBO. He called it a "Tornado Pillow"...tornado because of the shape and pillow because it's made with the stuff that people make pillows out of.

I read this thread at work during lunch the other day.

I removed the filler from my 510 cart, squeezed out the remaining liquid with a napkin, and cut it in half. I filled up the cart, then fluffed up half of the filler and stuffed it in. I've refilled it several times since and it works like a charm.

While I haven't had any problem with the filler plug dropping down into the cart, I may try the straw idea just in case. It seems to make sense.

highping HUGE THANK YOU HUGS I though I had tried all the different methods to fill or drip somehow I missed yours. I love this mod, it is brilliant and best of all works wonderfully. Have you tried pre-filling and capping extra cartidges for use through the day? If this will work with the little caps back on it would be awsome on a road trip.

Wow. This is a deal changer! What a great method....works perfectly for me. I just got a new eGo (wow...what a GREAT pv) and it is just getting easier and easier to vape! Using this method, I can vape a LONG time on one cart....but the eGo does make it go a little quicker than my Joye 510 did......who cares??!!

So I am a complete noob. Today I received my first eCig, a Joye 510 from Cignot.

I did this mod because I wasnt happy with constantly having to
drip. It definitely is an upgrade but about 3/4 through the cart I find myself having to take the cart off, and push the filler down to soak the wick, and bring it back up with a toothpick.

is this because the filler is to thick? it really doesnt lool all that thick/compacted.

Looks like your plug needs a trim. Go slow and find the perfect balance. Once you get it it becomes a second nature.

Rule of thumb : Flooded atty = too short ; Not wicking = too long. It may vary from cart batch to the other, but still works.

I just ordered a box of carto's but will try this. Actually I did a slight variation of this I think.
I had tried the straw mod but it failed miserably, guess I did it wrong, lol.
Then last week at work I took a paper clip, straightened it, then cut a small piece that was somewhat shaped like the letter "L". Dropped that into the cart and it keeps the filler from falling through (the small bent portion making the "L" is towards the atty).
Am thinking my way is kinda like the lazy man's way. Use a support to keep it from falling in and not having to trim till you get a good fit:).

And +1 on the Swiss Army knife. Have one on my keychain (been there for years) and took another one that is now dedicated to my vape kit. The scissors are indispensible and highly efficient for many tasks (vaping related or not), it is small and easy to carry, plus with the "Classic" model you get tweezers and a toothpick. All tools that I have found useful for working on carts.
Just be sure to get either a Victorinox or Wenger Knife, they are the real deal.
