Well guys and gals, I received my replacement 8W switch from Vapor Tech yesterday (the one with no glue), and immediately took it apart so easily. Everything worked great. Even though the spring that came inside the new 8W switch was somewhat easier to operate, I cut off one coil and magic happened. The switch works like butter and it still will stand upright without firing. Now this little Caravella Clone is just about perfect and I previously ordered the second 18650 tube, so I am all set.

I also got my button a few days ago too. I still have not found a good spring to use in there. I tried cutting the stock spring but then the button started grinding. Keeping my eyes peeled.

Sorry to beat a dead horse but does anyone know what that black stuff is on the inside of the tube pic I posted a page back? Not having a whole lot of luck cleaning it out with soap (blue Dawn). Let it soak in boiling water then put soap in.

Or is there a better forum/sub/thread I could be posting this in. Figured this one seemed like a good spot since it covers the mod specifically.

Just a guess, but maybe it's related to the chrome plating process

The 18530 tube for mine has varying levels of dark rings on the inside, either from the plating process or machining/drawing the tubes, or something. Whatever it is, it seems to be part of the surface of the metal, as nothing seems to dissolve/effect it.

Not a big issue for me as i never see the inside obv and whatever it is, is on there to stay.

Bummer regarding the top cap scratches, no idea why it'd come out of the box that way, on the bright side shouldnt be a big deal for long, because many tanks will scratch it when you install them flush.

I can only guess but for any polished item, the polishing compound turns black and gets everywhere as part of the process. I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over it lol. If it's not in an area that will end up in the vape, no biggie. If it is, rinse it in some everclear and wipe well. These things are churned out at a factory that can't afford to spend lots of extra time cleaning stuff that doesn't show. A clean one costs extra lol.

Tantz, If you really want to attempt to clean it, try some fine steel wool (on the inside only) and stay away from the threads. Wash it out thoroughly after using the steel wool. That might be your best bet.

Jeeves, Try to turn the spring the opposite direction and put a very tiny amount of WD40 on the sliding parts of the switch. After cutting my spring, the switch tends to "wobble" a bit, but I can live with that since it fires very smoothly, every time now, and I must have trimmed just the right amount off of the spring because it still stands on end without firing even with a large tank on top.

It is a shame that you can't get a product or mod that works GREAT out of the box. I think vaporteckusa.com has about 16 of the 8Ws remaining in stock and are offering both the 18650 and the 18350 tubes with the new non glued switch for about $40.00 which is a good deal since most of us have either had to order the tubes and the new switch separately. If you do get a new switch or find you can take apart the old glued switch, I suggest you clip off a little of the spring (no more than one ring - or less at first). My switch with one ring of the spring cut off is now like butter, fires smoothly and still stands on the end without firing . This is one great mod once you get it adjusted properly.

Still contemplating what I want etched on my "replica" Vellas. Wiil post a pic once I have them done.

I just wanted to chime in here...

I got my 8w on Monday and the switch was stiff as hell.. I bought the 18350 and it was hard to even get a grip to fire it.. Of course I received one with the glued pin so I couldn't take it apart..

I used it a little bit with the top cap cover off so I could easily get something to hang on to to fire the button, hoping it would loosen up with use...

What I ended up doing was taking the button off and putting it flat on a table with a brick on top of it to keep the spring compressed over night for 2 nights and now it is very usable! Still firm, but not overly firm..

Compared to my k100 it is very firm, but them again my k100 has gotten ALOT of use over the last few months and was probably stiffer when I first got it..

Very happy now I can actually use the 8w and I'll probably compress the spring for another night or two to see if it loosens up anymore..

pdxtechdoctor, Sorry to hear that they are still selling these with the "glued" switch. They should give everyone purchasing one a discount. Vaportech was offering a set of both tubes with one top and a non glued switch for $50 last time I checked they still had some in stock for those of you that haven't ordered yet. Go get um!

If "brickin it" doesn't help that much, the new switch is about $10 and works much better and you can take it apart easily to make mods or clean it.

PS: I took mine into the engravers today, but I am not revealing what I am having engraved on it. No type of nautical ships just some personal symbolism. Will post pics when it comes back next week. Can't understand why it will take a week for a 10 minute process, but they must be busy.

it actually doesn't take as much weight as that.. you just want to make sure that the switch is compressed.. my box of vaping gear is heavy enough as well... Hell, use a 2 liter bottle....

Might try it, I did buy the non glue button from Vaportek. Thanks

That's just wrong, I ordered mine from there Saturday, it arrived today. The double mod was not even an option, had to just order the 350. That's what I wanted anyway but for a couple dollars more to have both would have been nice. I'm still happy with it though.

I didn't get mine from VaporTek... but I did get it for $25 so I can't complain too much... I'll probably end up buying a switch and the shorter top cap at some point... Even the fixed 19 switch would be ok..

That glued switch was a monster. I boiled the switch, then torched it, and still couldnt get it off...

Until yesterday morning! I was getting ready for work and said what the heck - lets try again. It actually worked!

After cleaning it all off and cutting a coil its way better now, but its a little marked up on outside and inside. :(

Paid 24 bucks so, with such minimal voltage drop, im very happy.

I would open a ticket with Vaporteckusa. They should have included both tubes. I think it was a mistake on their part, UNLESS this was just posted as a special to get rid of their last several units. They are definitely offering this as a total package as I have PMd with another member who got this deal.
