This is just a shot in the dark, but have you tried pulling the pin a little further out than would seem necessary? I would think the act of screwing it back onto a battery would seat it properly. But I have no real basis for this belief....

While removing that pin is easy, I am having trouble getting this to run on all of my Ego batteries. I have 4 total Ego batteries I'm using now and this T3S only works on one. They can't all be that different! Really getting frustrated with this...can't have this trouble when I'm driving 2000 miles next week.

I broke many T3 heads back in the beginning due to pulling too far. I also broke the center pin on a Spinner due to this. Evod bases are not so tall, so they work better. I'm not getting the new T3S, I'd rather invest in Protanks or the Vapeonly BCC that have been working great so far and don't have these issues...

Do they move too? Something has got to give here. This is ridiculous!

Yes, I have been very careful to put the pin so that it just barely is securely in the hole. Almost seems like the battery pushes it back as far as it will go and it will not work.

There is definitely something hinky with some of these. While I had to pull the contact post on the first few T3S coil heads, I haven't had to that with the next few I've tried. I've lost track of what came from where but I have bought:

--1 complete, clear T3S
--1 complete, stainless steel MT3S
--1 box of 1.8Ohm heads
--1 spare base

And right NOW, I'm using both the clear and stainless steel one with no issues whatsoever. No contact issues, no leaking, no gurgling, no burnt hits (I THINK I pulled one of the flavor wicks out of one of these heads though). I don't know what to say, but when they're working like this, I LOVE them.

It's just an extra part to fiddle with. How did we get all the way back to a three piece design? lol! I'm back to always trying to remember to carry a safety pin with me. Adjust the battery post ....nothing....unscrew the t3 and adjust that post....nothing....take the base off and loosen and retighten the head....magic! Very quirky, these things but it's only one out of 3 or 4 that has this issue (and one that kept telling my battery there was a short somewhere even though everything was solid.)

I honestly just think that's a standard issue. I have experienced that with the T3S, EVOD (less) and also on the ProTank. I don't see anything different that I'm doing except for loosening/tightening the head, like you said. It's good to not assume the head is dead, cause a lot of the time fiddling seems to take care of the issue.
