I like the flavor on the Rose a lot but i dread building it too. I don't understand why they made it with two wick channels instead of one like the Taifun or similar. Would have been so much easy to build and wick. Honestly, who does dual coils on the Rose anyway. I'm sure a few do but it's clearly a flavor chasing tootle puffer device, only needs single coil.

Don't have a Rose, but on my KFs I leave the screwdriver that I wind on inside the coil to support it while mounting to the deck. Some use a toothpick, or a Q-tip (break/cut off the cotton, of course!) for stabilizing.

David, I do that too with my Erls, but the Rose coil has to be inserted in this tiny little ceramic cup and then the coil legs inserted into holes in this impossibly tiny space before you can tighten them down. That's the part that is so ridiculously hard to do. Maybe it will be easier next time (one can only hope), but I'm dreading it a lot. If it didn't have such incredible flavor, I probably would just put it back in the cabinet.

Well, then, just coil up your KF :)

Yep, I always leave the drillbit in place when I mount a coil on the KFL+ or the Achilles, until it's firmly fastened down. When I first put a coil in my Veritas, I removed the drillbit before mounting, and getting it fastened to the upper post totally deformed the top 2-3 loops of the coil (a single-vertical), which I had to try and manually repair. When I recently gave the Veritas another try, I left the drillbit inside until it was fastened -- no deforming at all.

Leaving the drillbit in place enables me to bend the leads, without deforming the coil, so they're going in the right direction to start around the screws (for the KF and Achilles); once it's fastened, I slide the drillbit out so I can measure the resistance. Providing it's acceptable, I then slide the drillbit back in so I can lift the coil up for maximum TH. Once it's at a good height, I again remove the drillbit so i can pulse the coil and very lightly compress it to make sure it's uniform -- I don't do much compression, because I prefer spaced coils rather than contact, but giving it a very light compression makes sure it's uniformly spaced.

Haven't had my hands on a rose either. But I find with the KFL, if you leave about 2 inches of wire on either end of the coil it makes it a LOT easier to get it wrapped around the screws. You end up wasting a bunch of wire, but it makes it a lot less frustrating. And +1 on leaving the jig in the coil til it's done. I do that on all my builds.

I put the ceramic cup in the base first, then mount the coil. It' hard getting the wire through those tiny holes i don't want to do it twice.

That's exactly what I'm going to try the next time I recoil. :D

The easiest one for me so far has been the Aqua v2. Just stick the legs in the posts and tighten. Took about 5 seconds.

And I shouldn't complain so much about the Rose. It does give an incredible vape, just about perfect in every way. So even with all the swearing it took to get it built, it was worth it in the end. :D

Dual coils on the Rose make it easy to wick but a PiTA to mount so they look nice. Not worth the effort IMHO, all it does is use up more juice and battery.

Yeah, I always start with about 6" of wire -- you end up clipping off about an inch and a half on each side, but well worth it to make it easier to mount. At $4.50 for 50ft of wire, it's 9 cents per foot, so you're only wasting about 2 and a half cents worth of wire.

The Rose... Amazing isn't it! :)

Throw some of these in your next cart on FT when they come back in stock.

I build a 1.3 ohm 26g, 11/10 wrap on 2.5mm for my Roses, the 26g is so much easier to wick than 28g. Carefully take the ceramic cup out, place the coil legs through the holes and line up the bottom of the coil with the bottom of the little wick cut out in the ceramic cup. Taking the bar they provide to break the base apart, place that across the bottom of the ceramic cup as a thickness guide to trim the legs. Awkward the first time you do it but it seems to be the perfect size for me.

I have a second Allen key that I place through the coil across the deck and use it to hold the coil at the correct height while I tighten the grub screws. Tighten each one a bit at a time as they will distort the shape of the coil if you crank one in all the way at first.

The coils in the rose can be dry fired and rinsed under water when you rewick it, so they will last in there quite a while.

Wicked with Rayon, don't mind the rusty coil it was in there quite a while and since changed out.

Juice up and enjoy!

I basically have it so if I look through the slot in the ceramic cup with the coil installed it's like looking through a tube. Bottom of the coil lined up with the bottom of the cutout.

What you can do is leave the legs long and the cup installed in the base, mount the coil through the wire holes till the legs bottom out and see how high it sits above the base. Take the coil out and trim the legs a little till you have it so it sits at the exact height and measure the leg length for future reference. ;)

Thanks, TD! I'll use some of those tricks the next time I have to recoil. I really like the tip of using that lever to measure the length of the wick tails. I just eyeballed it, but my first try I cut them too short and had to wind another wick. I think for me, it might be better to have the cup already installed before I add the coil. That cup fit really tight, which is probably why I broke it. I might try sanding the sides a bit to see if that works better.

I do love the flavor of the Rose, though. It reminds me a bit of the Aqua v2, but a little better even. Both are such nice smooth flavorful vapes. And the Rose seems to work best with the way I like to vape - nice long leisurely pulls. I am really glad I got it working. I think I'm going to need a second one, though, for my other ADV. :D

@roxynoodle

I'm looking forward too your impressions of the goblin mini.

It came today. Not sure I'll build it yet tonight though.

This thread has really inspired me. So last night, I pulled out the Rose V2 that's been sitting in a cabinet for several weeks and put a build on it to see if it lived up to the hype. And OMG, the flavor is just incredible! I couldn't put it down. I'm working on my second tankful this morning.

But does it have to be so #*@#$%^& ridiculously hard to coil? I ruined 2 coils trying to get them mounted. And then I broke the little tab off one side of the ceramic cup when I finally got it in. Since the coil was finally in place, I just left it that way and tightened the coil down.

I had no problem at all wicking it. But that seems to be my major problem with RTAs. So far I've gotten the wicking right on every tank I've tried. I just browse the threads, note the suggestions, find a picture of a working build, and copy it. But I always have this big problem getting the coils mounted. They either have ridiculously tiny screws to trap the wire or, like the Rose, you have to mount them in such a tiny area that even my small hands are too big. It seems like it always takes me a good 20-30 minutes just to get a coil mounted without it getting mangled up. And then the wicking is done in less than 5 minutes.

I have a Kayfun still sitting in the cabinet. I opened it up, looked at the build deck and thought "You've got to be kidding!" And put it back away.

Is it just me, or does everyone have this problem? Is there a trick to getting that Rose coil mounted properly? I sure hope this one lasts a long time. I really dread having to do another one.

Practice helps a lot. The first time I built the Rose, it took me half an hour. Now it takes me about 1 minute :)

Put your coil on a 1/16 drill bit to hold it together because that size bit fits in the slots. Put your ceramic cup in, line up the holes, and drop your coil in from above using good lighting. If your holes are lined up and you get both leads in, you'll be good :)

It is so worth it for the flavor.

Hurricane girl and I didn't take any pics, but we had fun. Her Squape did have a big problem, but I had a solution so its working. And she found a couple RTAs she did like :)

Well, if it took you a half hour, then I guess I won't feel so bad. :D I might have wrapped too big a coil. I used 3 mm ID because I wanted to be sure I had enough wick to split for the 2 wick slots. I'll try 2.5 next time and see if that makes any difference. I think dropping it in after the cup is installed should make it easier for me. My problem is that I watched a pbusardo video before I worked on it and basically copied how he did it. I kept thinking that it should be so much easier for me, since I have small hands and he has big hands, but not the case! :D

Glad you got Hurricane girl's Squape squared away!

I got the rocket RTA's in today.

I definitely appreciate the thought behind someone here PIFing them to me and am very grateful for that.

That being said, the Rockets themselves were utter crap.

I wasnt able to take one completely apart because the threads were stuck, so I stuck it in the freezer.

When I got it out I twisted on it and broke the plastic tank rather than the threads budging.

One down.

So then i start to build the other one

I do 9 wraps of 32 gauge kanthal and Im reading .08 ohms, way lower than it should. It wont fire on my Provari. More on that later.

So I go to the local Brick and Mortar and get them to help me.

The owner sells me some 28 gauge kanthal then wraps the coil in a jig.

He gets the deck all built.

Second Rocket wont fire....he checks it over and we find that the center post is screwed in too tight and isnt making good contact with either of our mods. .

We loosen the center post so it extends a bit further and it fires on his mod then shorts out because the build deck is wobbling.

Turns out the build deck and the center post are connected. When one works the other doesnt.

Two down.

The good news is I bought a Lemo and I couldnt be happier with it.

This thing has outstanding flavor and adjustable draw which is great for someone coming from carto tanks with tighter pulls.

I'm tootling away on my Prometey right now! And this RTA IS a great vape! Thanks again, Roxy! If I've learned anything from this thead and sitting there watching Roxy build away, it's that there ARE RTAs out there that aren't as complex as the Rose, the Kayfun or that (it WASN'T my fault!) Squape. It's the ones with wicking channels I have trouble with. But with RTA's like the Prometey, the Nectar and that new Haze dripping RDA (they call it an RDA but it has a tank) it looks like tanks might be changing, imho, for the better.

The wicking on these tanks amounts to stuff it in there and load it up! That works for me, so we'll just hafta kick back and see :pop:where the manufacturers go with this.
