never heard of that... what makes it do that?

Actually electrolysis while very similar isn't the true correct term;

CORROSION: GALVANONIC CORROSION

Definition:

When two different metals are immersed in a corrosive solution, each will develop a corrosion potential. If the corrosion potential of the two metals is significantly different, and they are in direct contact and immersed in an electrolyte, the more noble metal will become the cathode and the more active metal will become the anode. A measurable current may flow between the anode and the cathode. The corrosion rate of the anode will be increased and the cathode decreased. The increased corrosion of the anode is called "galvanic corrosion".
Requirements for Galvanic Corrosion:

In order for galvanic corrosion to occur, three elements are required.
1) Dissimilar metals
2) Metal-to-metal contact
3) Metals in the same conduction solution (usually called an electrolyte)
This can be air/water or moisture no just "solutions".

Thank you. I just prefer SS, that's all. So, if I'm understanding this correctly, the aluminum Lv2 will have threads on the top cap for the JD and the SS will not, right? Thanks in advance.

If you look closely at the pictures it certainly appears that way... There are ways around the problems of galvanic corrosion using insulators or transitions with different metals etc, but I suspect they were either too costly or there were other issues at hand that made it difficult for him to produce - add to that 200+ of us preordered and begging for an update -

Be glad he made the decision to move forward with the aluminum version and get it out the door. So what if it isn't 18/8 surgical steel? It's not a blade ...

Perhaps in 6 months he'll have a soultion in titanium or stainless or copper or whatever and we'll have all another reason to buy another mod from him .....

Thanks for helping out. My intention was not to complain but to gain understanding. Like you, I believe the decision was made for specific reasons unknown to us at this point and we have no choice but to accept it for what it is. I had my hopes set on a SS Lv2 with JD. I will simply have to redirect my excitement towards the aluminum one. It's going to be a badass mod nevertheless.

How easy the alum is to dent and scratch depends on which type he is using. I suspect it is in the 2000 series.

If the base is something like 2017-T4 then it may be prone to denting, but if it is a 2024-T361 then is should be fairly dent resistant.

Alum is available in a large number of alloys that are all called aluminum. And some can be tempered after machining to make them even more resistant to dents and scratches.

I'm just waiting' fairly quietly, so I can see for myself. From my experience with Lv1, I trust he has made a good material choice between workability and durability.

Jcamacho,

I agree with you. I am a cartomizer junkie and am more interested in the features outside of the JD. Plus I like the look of it better without the JD. Sure hoping folks start getting some paypal payment requests soon. Can't wait to hear the finalized pricing and options available.

......hope I have some money left by the time this happens!

I assume we can't be too far away. I wish I had a final price so I could determine what stuff I need to sell off and deposit into my paypal account. I want to be ready when the email comes!

250 should be more than adequate for planning purposes. That is assuming you don't want that many JD's.

I don't think I want the JD. Just a nice tight stainless steel version would make me more then happy. Think it will be around the price of the version 1? Guess that's a good starting point at least.
