A radiative wick aye? Freakin brilliant! What a proof of concept! The only other way I can see to atomise juice is with a hot plate of some type... Way too problematic though. I can see this going a long way to help make reliable, fiddle proof, long lasting devices. I suppose if you wrapped that in some titanium wire, a set up like that could last a very long time. The only thing to replace really is the wick, and cotton yarn is so cheap. If only I owned a genisus atty, I would give this a go. I wonder if the same concept could work on a Viva Nova. Just have a short piece of extemely thin tube suspended in the middle of the wick between the sides of the atty...

Could maybe work on a VN, but the glass tube would have to be very very short to allow some air to pass over the wick itself.

This also looks feasible for Phoenix style dripping attys. With a horizontal wick and coil of course.

Ahh, things to play with after the Thanksgiving holiday.

I will get on that when the wife allows me some time inbetween holiday activities
Dan

Good luck with that..... I volunteered to work the holiday and weekend to escape the craziness but we didn't have any extra work available :-[

Now I'm stuck spit polishing the house for un-appreciative kids to mess up.

Got some fuses this morning, and pulled one apart for the DUD. The OD was too large though, and my wick was too far from the outside of the tube to get a good test of the setup. It was not horrible though. I used 30g nichrome and made a 7/6 wrap that ohmed at 1.8. Seemed to heat up the glass relatively quick, but I had to do some tipping to make sure the wick remained saturated. The DUD Got really hot because the glass tubing was so close to the DUD cap. The flavor started to get good at about half tank, but I had to abandon it due to the heat. Will try again when I get the correct size glass tubing.

Haha, yeah I just went rummaging though my wife's jewelry making kit trying to find a glass bead of some sort that might work... No dice! I wonder if its possible to cheaply manufacture an atty with the the resistance wire embedded in the glass. You could have some sort of hollow threading on both ends for the positive and negative connections... At any rate, yeah this is an amazing concept here!

EDIT: And why do I get the feeling that burnt wicks and dry burning might soon be a thing of the past?

Radio Shack has some small fuses that might work. I have some somewhere, I'll have to see if I can dig them up...

Alcohol should clean the flux off them when you use you soldering iron to remove the ends.

The 3m ceramic insulator could be used for its intended purpose for this mod?

I know Dan said it would not matter where the air hole was, but I am getting best flavor/vapor/throathit combo with air hole next to the coil like the regular wick would be. I guess the break in is crucial, currently it is hitting like a beast, clean clear flavor, but I can't do chaining due to the heat. I am really looking forward to the smaller tubing, cuz the tubing I have is way too large for my wick. The coil is still shiney after almost a full tank too. I do see some build up on the inside of the glass though. I will continue to use it and see how it goes. 1.8 ohms at 4 volts.

For those worried about modding a good working unit for this, you don't need to drill a hole all the way through. I plan on just counter sinking a little to stabilize the tube.

Great idea but there may be some concern with the wick making contact with "mystery metal" (depending on your RBA's build quality)?

The inside of the tube is being cooled by the vaporizing liquid so I don't see a problem with high temperature.

Getting some of Wilmad's 2.5mm tubes, confirmation email in ~10 mins :) , getting the tubes in my hands, hoping for pre-christmas

ok sounds cool ;-) 2.5 mm...not too skinny to get a decent wick in there?

I'm using a electronic fuse. I'm getting a lot of heat trapped in the fuse. Results are a juice explosion. Hot liquid dropping all over the place. LOL

You need a Slow-Blow fuse

But seriously, try turning down your voltage/wattage
