Here is a video @ my crude quickly put together cotton variation test.
best seen full screen HD

It was a cold test on raw cotton & barely oxidized wire. I mostly just wanted to see a close up of what would happen in the tube. It seems a pop creates a channel & that channel is likely the keyhole to vapor production in such a sideways cotton version. Gdeal has a hypo needle tube air mod, that would be worthy of further investigation here, if the air was directed to blow softly(big gauge needle) through the channel. It was taking way too long to heat up with my kicked mec mod unit set @ 5 watts, so I used a super ego vv so I could quickly dial the power up. Lots of flavor & throat hit, but the airflow...you'll see my summation @ the end of the vid ;)

My "Spin E" coil often does the pop thing when the cotton is fresh, so I sort of expected it. Fresh cotton seems to have a heat conditioning period. The fibers once heated enough settle. I would imagine the sideways glass channel would grow to take up more of the inside of the tube area, if vaped to a settled down cotton stage. Thus I suggest a tighter packed bigger wad of cotton, to lessen shrinkage may be in order. My crude test used lightly packed cotton & with cotton "less is often more" "the less the better", but likely not in this case.

Check out my YT channel for some cool airflow vids ;)

I'm wondering about mechanical mods too. I just setup a 9 wrap 28awg Nichrome 1.6Ohm coil on my DID for the Zmax to run in dual battery mode at an indicated 8-9Watts, which is closer to 15Watts, a lot of the lower ohms wire heating transfer to the wick is wasted due to it's "round" nature. was just thinking about compression rolling the 28awg to a flatter "tape" or all least oval form to optimize heat transfer to the Pyrex on a low ohm mechanical mod setup,
5/6 coil of nichrome on a 3.4mm wick or Pyrex tube is around 0.9 Ohms, and with the wire rolled/compressed flat it should work great with a variety of resistance wire gauges used for high watts on 3.7v mods.
Just my:2c:
Grrrreat Thread Dan.

I haven't finished catching up yet and am not overly familiar with the product, but "ribbon" wire is available:

Okay, back to reading . . .

EDIT: Looks like somebody already brought up the subject a few pages ago

My glass is on the way and i cant wait to play.. Does anyone have some tips on snapping this stuff into usable lengths? Should I just score it with my glass cutter and snap of? Would it be wise to reenforce the edges with tape before i do this? Its been a while since i played with glass so anything would be helpful.

Blaine, you may have to be a little more gentle. I grabbed the end of my fuse with a pair of needle nose pliers over a tissue and twisted it gently. It did crack some on one side, and came off cleanly on the other side. Be very careful though, cause they are quite fragile.

Okay this stuff is the real deal. Flavor has gotten really good. The juice is coming out steamed instead of grilled. Very very very clean vape. I like it, thanks Dan. Can't wait to get the proper tubing so I can set this up right. For now though the glass fuze is working for me nicely.

Curious to try this on a center wick/coil setup versus the side wick/coil setups that are so prevalent. Since the vapor literally shoots out the top of the pyrex tube/wick setup like a geyser, that could prove to be one hot vape on a center wick genni with your mouth piece right above the top of that wick/coil setup!!! And airflow may not be so key with it. Have a few center coil/wick setups to try it with, but no pyrex tube...

I am not so interested in separating the wick from the coil though. I have no issues since my wicks are purposely rolled to just slide in and out of my 2mm rolled coils. I pull wick, dry burn coil to clean, slide wick back in and am back in business. Can clean the wick if need be also, and have had 3 months on the one I swapped out last night. But I am interested in that geyser of vapor and what could be done with that!!! Just not how long it takes to start up :)

Guess I will continue to follow along until I get the notion to try it.

Thanks for the advice bro! What size glass fuse did you use? The smallest one I could find at radio shack was a size called .5 x20mm

how do i remove the metal caps off the end of the glass fuse? does any one have any suggestions... i tried twisting one carefully with pliers but it just broke the glass lol

Heat the cap with a lighter for a few seconds. It will slide right off. Hold the other end with a pair of pliers so you don't burn your fingers.
