Thanks for the advise! I'm still contemplating how something like this can work in a vivi. I'm kinda skeptical that it can work at all though based on how the air flows though those. I will most likely watch this thread and see which Geneses devices this seems to work best on, and then just ask for one for Christmas :)

I still think this could work in a ViVi, just a matter of making the tube short enough that it is shorter than the metal cup is wide. That way...

Well, now I'm not sure ... if we're using SS wick, would it end up over heating the juice in the tank or just allow vaporizing of the juice nearest the heat.

Exploration is needed with this ...

Make sure you have enough space on the bliss to use a tube

I think this is great, been trying to get a coil to stay alive on my bliSS for weeks now and just got it working.
I'm going to order some as it sure would help a lot.

Heat temperature isnt necessarly the only factor when it comes to thermal shocking. It also depends on annealing. It only takes one bad batch of poorly annealed glass tubes to be bought up by one of us and literally have it blow up in our faces. One example I can think of is say your pv is in the car on a cold winter day. You come in the house and fire it up. So along with a bad batch of un annealed glass along with the extreme temperature change chances are you'd have extreme thermal shock.
I'm not saying this is not a great idea Dan. I'm just saying we should use quartz tubes. Here is my supplier I use to buy my quartz tubes.
Technical Glass Products: Fused Quartz Tubing
Bedazzle

So when these break, Will it be like a few cracks in the glass or a full blown explosion?

Holy Buckets! Am I glad to have stumbled into this think tank. I wonder if the ss mesh is the best material to use in this. Does it pull heat away from the target? Anything that creates a leg for the liquid would work right? Would a hollow ss wick work better by allowing more vapor surface or would the liquid just bubble upward? It looks like the vapor is coming from the tip only so maybe thats where the coil should be concentrated. My mind is spinning...Great find Dan!

just read on another forum that the user was getting condensation build up in the top cap (as is normal), this in turn was hitting the 'dry' coils on the outer of the pyrex and giving a nasty burnt taste. Has this occurred with anyone here trying this method?

At least two of us over here.
I can't remember the other member.
Awful taste. Tried with the Aga-T and the Arashi.

Bedazzled, I wish I had seen your posts yesterday, before I ordered pyrex. Still I will give it a go and perhaps include a filter.

I am interested in your opinion on using fused quartz for a tank in a 15/13 x 55mm length. It will be quite recessed and shielded, and I won't throw it at a brick wall, but surviving the occasional drop on the ground would be nice. Also can the edges be smoothed and rounded with sanding and or a diamond file? I would avoid fire polishing as per your advice.

Thanks!

Well I was planning on using a cotton wick. I have to say that it would be an expensive experiment with the quartz tubing. I don't know about using the anodized aluminum or titanium either. I was thinking about finding a suitable SS tube and just oxidize it and give it a try just to see if it would even work in a Nova. Any ideas for a cheap source for finding a suitable SS tube... Preferably local?

Unfortunately my supplier is not local, but it is only $9. Still can't find a good local supplier for quartz, only nationwide.

You guys with the volcano problems, pinch the top shut so juice doesn't come out. This can be seen in Dan's first vid, it isn't to keep the mesh from falling in as it sits on the bottom.
