specs: My 15ml bottle of IndigoVapor Eastwood contains an auburn-colored transparent liquid at 24mg nic strength in an unspecified base blend that feels to me like 50/50 PG/VG. The juice has no discernible scent. Testing was done by dripping into a standard 2.1 ohm Joyetech 510 atty powered by a VAMO set to 9.0 watts RMS.
IndigoVapor Eastwood, which is a 50/50 mix of
RY (Indigo’s original version of RY4) with
The Duke (one of the very tasty synthetic tobacco blends that Tony concocted and sells at IndigoVapor). Although I mixed my own bottle, Eastwood is available as a pre-mixed juice on the IndigoVapor web site.
Indigo has two RY4s already reviewed and on
The Big List, but it had not occurred to me that Eastwood might qualify also. Well, time to correct that oversight, especially since Lombaowski just mentioned Eastwood in her post above.
Here are the descriptions of the respective juices from their product pages on the Indigo web site:
The Duke:
"If you are looking for a strong, bold and flavorful tobacco - The Duke is for you. This is a tobacco that the Man himself would be proud to vape!"
Indigo RY:
"RY4 done the Indigo Vapor way! Indulge in this perfect melding of caramel, vanilla and a rich complex tobacco. Pick this up and put down your other RY4's."
Eastwood:
"The long awaited Duke and Indigo RY combo - pre-mixed for your vaping ease! Tony has been recommending that people try a 50/50 blend - and everyone loves it! Now you can try it with no mixing hassle!"
Eastwood’s moniker is obviously an homage to The Man with No Name, Clint Eastwood’s famous anti-hero gunslinger from Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, just as The Duke is a reference to John Wayne and a subtler homage to The Marlboro Man. Naming conventions aside, I don’t feel that Eastwood the eliquid owes much to Clint Eastwood, who chewed on cheroot cigars throughout the three-movie series.
Eastwood is a Custom RY4, and obviously one that belongs in the category of
Stronger Tobacco, since it’s made from a rather intensely flavored synthetic tobacco. The RY4 element of Eastwood is somewhat restrained, as one might imagine of a 50/50 Frankenblend. Still, the caramel and vanilla components do come through and make their presence felt (uh, tasted), so I feel that Eastwood deserves inclusion on
The Big RY4 List.
If you like RY4 but like good synthetic tobacco juices even more, then Eastwood may be just the ticket. One might call it a lean RY4, but that's only because of the reduced caramel and vanilla components. Overall, it's richly flavorful. I pick up a very slight nuttiness in Eastwood, which is both interesting and odd, since I don’t taste any nuts in either RY or The Duke when I vape those by themselves. The nuttiness isn’t strong, and my palate may be mis-identifying another flavor as nutty, but I like it.
Eastwood has some sweetness, but it’s not emphatic, and nowhere near enough to make it a dessert RY4. No, this is definitely a Stronger Tobacco RY4.
The 50-50 mix of The Duke and RY works well, and that’s what you’ll get if you order a bottle pre-mixed from the Indigo web site. I tried a 60-40 mix (60% RY to 40% Duke), but no, the 50-50 mix is significantly better.
Personally, I like Eastwood more than Indigo RY (and more than The Duke by itself), but not as much as I like Indigo Classic, so I’ll leave Classic in the
A group, give Eastwood RY’s former slot in the
B+ group, and drop RY down to
B-. For me, Eastwood is a decided improvement on Indigo RY, and I’ll feel more comfortable with RY in the
B- group.
