One of the base ingredient flavors in RY4, caramel in the food world is a confectionary product made by heating sugar (to the point where the sugars burn, from very slightly to extremely burnt). Color varies from light tan, through beige, all the way to dark brown, depending on how burnt the sugars are. In some RY4 recipes, caramel alone provides an approximation of the vanilla component; in most RY4 formulations, however, the vanilla is an entirely separate and distinct flavor. Sweetness varies widely among different caramels, as does richness, and every permutation applies in the combinations of burnt sugar intensity, sweetness, and richness. As candies, fillings, and syrups, caramels can be hard or soft and thick or thin. Simplicity is a hallmark of caramels, since they are basically just sugar (and perhaps salt), but complexity can be achieved by cooking different sugars together to make a given caramel, by adding other non-caramel flavors, or by combining individual caramels that have different flavor profiles.

Caramel-flavored eliquids abound in the vaping marketplace, because the taste is nearly universal and a pleasing addition to many other flavors. If, say, 150 RY4s are currently available, then easily 1000 different caramel juices and juice blends are sold. Generally, when caramel is combined with other flavors (such as tobaccos or fruits), the resulting blend is almost never "unified," meaning that the caramel doesn't transform itself or the other flavorings with which it is mixed. All the flavors retain their essential character, making a sort of stew or melange.

Below are brief descriptions of eight of the more notable caramel juices I've vaped. Only one is an RY4. These are not ordinary, middle-of-the-road caramels---all are quite distinctive and unusual in one way or another.

Kick-Azz Caramel from madvapes
I'm not actually a fan of the TopVapor line of juices, but I still have some of the 30ml bottle I bought early on in my vaping journey. This juice is very sweet, but with less of the other caramel attributes. All hard candy, no soft and chewy.

Caramel Tobacco from bluemistvaping
This is the first caramel-tobacco combo I ever tried, and another well-known juice I went overboard with in my first months of vaping. I still have most of that 150ml bottle. It's a bright red colored liquid, and the flavor is metaphorically corresponding. The caramel is very, very strong, mated to one of bluemist's unusual tobacco bases. I don't vape it anymore, but it remains a big seller for bluemist.

Caramel Spanish Gold from sweet-vapes
Another of many caramel-tobacco blends, this is one where the richness of the caramel leads the way, like Fred Astaire dancing with the lovely tobacco's Ginger Rogers.

VR4 from vaperite
The king of caramel-rich RY4s. Not particularly sweet, but so rich that it's almost gooey. Amazing, and a longtime favorite of mine.

Pchela's Famous Five Layer from mom&popvaporshop
A great example of mixing different caramels and caramel-like flavors. A flavor bomb with, well, many layers.

Caramel Corral Tobacco from nitelitevapor
Nitelite uses a subtle and restrained tobacco base in all their tobacco blends, and this juice---like VR4---has such an astonishingly rich caramel that if you didn't see "Tobacco" in the name, you wouldn't know that there's any tobacco at all. Caramel-dominant, to say the least.

Straight Up Caramel from moondrop
The most unusual of this list of caramel juices, in part because of the distinctive Tobacco Absolute base, and in part because of the restraint in using the caramel, which---like Kick-Azz---is lean and hard rather than rich and gooey. A juice with a punch, like a right cross to the taste buds.

Crème Brûlée by want2vape
Basically ethyl maltol with a very slight toasted flavor. Sweetness is the primary attribute, but it's a marvelously subtle sweetness, though not delicate or floral. Easygoing rather than intense. The perfect mixer to sweeten other juices.

Appreciate very much these reviews on RY4's Mr. Bill. I'm primarily a tobacco person myself, and these opinions have helped me clear up a few things, organize my orders, and begin to assemble a good tobacco collection. Tobacco is like fine wine...
and it's always good to have some top shelf bottles around for that special moment ;)

New Era Vaping : New Era Vaping
RY4 is described on their site, "A sweet nutty flavor with a hint of tobacco." What I got was a heavy caramel tobacco, with a bit of vanilla and nut. Although the caramel is strong, the predominate flavor is the tobacco. NewEra uses a synthetic tobacco that leans more to cigar than cigarette. It is a rich, flavorful tobacco that reminds me of Black and Mild. Very clean flavor, and plenty of it. If you like an earthy strong tobacco with a sweet background, I would suggest giving NewEraVaping's RY4 a try...

It has been about three weeks since I tried New Era's RY4. Since that time, it has steeped into a very good flavor (or my tastes have adjusted to it more). I find myself going to it even more than my favorite Quick Nic RY4. The Black N Mild-like nutty tobacco, backed by the sweetened caramel is a very good blend.

So when I noticed they had a contest running for some free juice, I thought I would post it here. I hope that someone here enters and wins some of their juice, and then confirms for me that they really do have an awesome RY4 blend.

The white 50ml bottle and label design are exactly the same on the Madvapes and Health Cabin Dekang RY4s. But there the similarity ends. The MV DK is 24mg nic strength, whereas the HC DK is 26mg. Also, the juices inside the bottles are different colors: my MV DK is a deep amber transparency, while the HC DK is very pale gold. Obviously, not the same juice.
Found this post using search and just ordered 50ml from HC (I will have to wait until 1. February because of New Year...). First i wanted to order 30 ml bottle, but only 50 ml bottle is 26mg nicotine, all other hc bottles of dekang ry4 are 24mg???? Is this juice different, some old stock? Maybe I will ask HC what is difference, or maybe someone already wrote, i didn't read thread from beginning (page 108 is in bookmarks :) ).

I want to find best ry4, i tried some unknown Chinese, original Health cabin and Vaperite VR4.
Health cabin ry4 has to light taste, it is not bad, but i'm looking for something stronger with more vanilla taste.
Vaperite is perfect, I don't need nothing better, but it requires every day hardware maintenance (cleaning etc...).
Unknown Chinese I didn't like, mostly because it was 100% VG and i didn't give it a chance.
I like very much other Dekang tobacco juices (555 is my favorite, but all i tried are good) and i really hope that this ry4 will became my all day vape.
Thanks very much for this thread.

zogu,

You might try VapourWorld.co.uk. This British vendor sells 15 different RYs, all made for them by Dekang, all variations on the classic RY4 recipe, and many available from Dekang's Intense line, which is sort of their regular flavor versions on steroids.

specs: The free 15ml bottle of Fall Harvest RY4 Tobacco that Nik at SpringVapor sent me for review is a 50/50 PG/VG blend at 24mg nic strength. The golden liquid is not quite pale, but a light yellow-orange transparency. The juice was tested by dripping with two bonut-modified atties---a 2.0 ohm SLB 510 and a 1.5 ohm Joye 306---both powered by a Buzz Pro set to 4.2 unloaded volts, providing 4.0 volts under load. Actual wattage was therefore 8 watts for the 510 and 10 watts for the 306.

From the SpringVapor ordering page: “A Sweet Tobacco Blend with Hints [of] Vanilla, Caramel and our own secret ingredient!” SpringVapor states that their liquids are USA hand-crafted and made to order in various customer-chosen base blend ratios.

There is nothing classic (meaning Chinese) about Fall Harvest RY4 Tobacco at all. Not even remotely. This juice is entirely custom, with a clear U.S. artisan pedigree. With no interest in replicating a Janty, Dekang, or Hangsen RY4, Fall Harvest RY4 Tobacco is entirely its own creature, although it shares similar ingredients with its Asian cousins.

The flavor profile is smooth, and the impact is calm. Calm like the perfectly glassy surface of a deep lake when there is no wind, providing the vaper with the considerable feat of allowing individual flavor components to be tasted separately, but without any of those flavors being so distinct as to be readily identifiable. Tobacco, caramel, and vanilla are all present, but with such smoothness that none shouts its name. All three of the base flavors share the lengthening darkness of autumn motif reflected in the juice’s name, like leaves past their peak of brilliant color that turn more muted before falling from the branches. As for the “secret ingredient,” I’ll take a completely wild stab and suggest that I get the slightest hint of anise/licorice in the flavor profile, but I’ll bet Nik would laugh at how far off I am probably in that guess. This falls into the “mystery flavor” realm of juices such as AVE Boba’s Bounty and CopperCreek House Blend, where each person tastes different flavors.

For vapers who thrive on high stimulation and “in-your-face” flavor intensity, Fall Harvest RY4 Tobacco will be useless. Not that the flavor is weak---far from it---it’s definitely rich enough, though not dessert sweet, but the impact of the flavor on the brain is more understated than dramatic. I don’t mean to imply a stuffy suit-and-tie formality, but rather an L.L.Bean stylishly informal comfort. For those looking for an all-day vape that will grow on them while not wearing out its welcome by becoming tiresome, Fall Harvest RY4 Tobacco might be a very good bet. Because this RY4 is so thoroughly a custom rather than classic liquid, some people may not like it at all, while others will consider it the best RY4 they’ve ever vaped. Smooth and calm do not equate to average or middle-of-the-road.

Big List Ranking: #27

specs: The free 15ml bottle of Black Label RY4 that Nik at SpringVapor sent me for review is a 50/50 PG/VG blend at 24mg nic strength. The golden liquid is a light yellow-orange transparency, and slightly more pale than its older brother, Fall Harvest Tobacco.

Black Label RY4 is a new liquid from SpringVapor that is not yet for sale on the web site. Nik is adding his creativity to the increasing number of custom artisan juice vendors who now offer two or more variations of RY4, usually with one version that is more standard, and a second, kicked-up version. Sort of RY4 on steroids.

I’m atty-dripping both the Fall Harvest RY4 and Black Label RY4 side-by-side, and I’m not sure what the differences are. The flavor profile of Black Label does seem to me somewhat heftier and more substantial, but I’m hard-pressed to be able to say how the flavorings are different. Are the same flavors used in both juices, but at different mix ratios? I don’t know. Are there new flavors in Black Label? Again, I can’t tell.

You know how in making vegetable soup from scratch, there’s a point in the cooking where the contents of the pot transform from just chopped vegies in a liquid base into real soup? That’s akin to the melding of flavors that steeping often achieves in eliquids. Individual flavors are reduced and made more subtle, while the overall taste is enriched.

Although both of the RY4s Nik sent me are now only six days past their creation, Nik advised me that they would be good to go without needing a lot of steeping time. And he was right. Both versions of SpringVapors’ RY4s taste like, well, “soup”---in that good way. The downside of this magic is that, while I can still discern individual flavors, I can’t tell exactly what they are, since they’re “softened” around the edges and happily embracing each other. [Note: My ignorance here should put the kibosh on the illusion some readers hold that I have a “sophisticated” or “refined” palate. Nope. I’m often as clueless about defining flavors as anyone could be.]

Heck, I’m not even sure that Black Label is an RY4 at all. I find it similar to some popular non-RY4 juices---not identical, but headed down the same road. Add more vanilla and a touch of cake flavor, and we’d have something approaching Bounty Hunter from nitelitevapor. Add slightly more tobacco bite and spiciness, and we’d have an approximation of Vita Bella from goodejuice. Both of those are among my very favorite juices, so the similarities to Black Label are certainly pleasing to me. But Black Label pushes the envelope of even custom RY4s so far that---like Elvis---it has almost left the building entirely. Unlike fsusa’s RY5, however, which I reviewed recently but chose not to include or rank on the Big List, I’m going to allow Black Label RY4 to join the club. Why? Because it really does go with its near-twin, Fall Harvest RY4, and separating them would be cruel, like letting one gypsy brother through Ellis Island in 1910 while deporting the other brother back to Rumania.

So, I’ll rank them together, with Black Label one spot ahead of Fall Harvest, and in the same category groups:

Big List Ranking: #26
Category Groups: Balanced/Blended, Distinctive (atypical)

There’s no link to provide, since Black Label RY4 isn’t available for sale yet. (If you can’t live without some, try sending a PM to Nik and ask if he’ll make you a bottle…)

Two criteria are used for these rankings. The first is my own totally subjective personal opinion, meaning what I like and don’t like. That constitutes about 80% of the ranking. The other 20% comes from my assessment of the general popularity of a given RY4. If it’s wildly popular, that will improve somewhat whatever ranking I’d otherwise give it based on my personal reaction.

Each RY4 on the Ranking List is now followed by a numbered post, which is the original review of that juice. So, if you want to read my initial opinions about any RY4 on the list, now you don’t have to wade through 100 pages to find the review.

If you might base a buying decision on this post, look to the Category Groups rather than the Rankings, since the Categories are a more objective (meaning less opinionated) and reliable guide to RY4s you might like.

An asterisk (*) after the name means that the juice is not commercially available. A double asterisk (**) means that the juice is commercially available from the UK, but not in the US.

One significant change occurred in the Top 10 for this update. Toasted Toffee Tobacco from ESCI jumped from #10 to #5. Why? For the simple reason that it happens to be my personal favorite RY4 and for some months has been the only RY4 I vape on a daily basis. Well, then why not make it #1? Because I don’t have to be in love with a specific RY4 to recognize a brilliant juice when I vape it. Janty Elixir is still #1 by a mile. Period.

RY4 Rankings (includes RY4-variants)

#1-10…...Superlative, Nectar of the Gods
#11-20.…Very Good, like fine wine
#21-30….Good, well worth vaping
#31-40….Pretty good, but more average
#41-50….Fair, but close enough for horseshoes
#51-60.....Only So-So, but still acceptable in a pinch
#61-70.…Passable, but only on a desert island with no other juices
#71……...Bottom of the barrel: RY4 hell

On the subject of caramel I can vouch for paradise vapes Carmel 2. It's a beautifully golden, sweet ooze like liquid. The smell is really what hits you first, it's pure decedance, sweet, golden syrup, patisserie like in its aroma. Being 50/50 it's heavy in vapour and smooth and light on the throat. The taste isn't quite as great as that smell, but I've yet to find a better all out caramel. Mix it with a heavier RY4 or Tobacoo and it can sweeten even the hardiest mix.

Despite claims to the contrary I have indeed been weak willed and bought yet more RY4! So in the week I'll be looking at a generic chinese made RY4 from Ecig wizard, re-assessing totally wicked's Titan fluids (RY4 & 3) now they have changed their supplier and recipe again I felt it worth seing if it was for the better or indeed not...

In addition I saw the patriot range on TW now includes a RY4 and so I'll be reviewing this also. An allegedly USA made mix which I'm hoping isn't merely the Titan fluids repackaged. In hardware news Ive just laid an order on the new janty neo classic ecig device and will see just how well this new kid on the block will go with some elixir Ry4.

I just got to taste Greenhouse One RY4. I got it in a trade. Very nice! It has a slight pine flavor to me, along with classic RY4. Not nutty at all, but I taste the vanilla, caramel, and tobacco.

I had to see what the difference in the Dekang from the United States shops and the Chinese shops tastes like; so I ordered a few bottles from Health Cabin. They have a 15% off sale going on while they are out for Chinese New Year, two more days!

Don't know if it's been mentioned in this thread.. but i read on the janty sub-forum that the Classic line (which do include Classic RY4) will be released again in february.
Also another line will be added to their catalogue, the DK line (dekang manufactured).
So they will have soon 4 different kind of RY4:
- Vitaya
- Elixir
- DK
- Classic

ournature,

I had made the assumption (unfounded and unconfirmed one way or the other) that all Janty's liquids, including RY4, were probably outsourced through Dekang---meaning that Janty determined the ingredients and formula/recipes (and controlled the end product for quality/performance/taste), then Dekang produced them specifically for Janty. I've never known if Janty's liquids were/are supplied as bottled pre-mix or in bulk (so that Janty does the labeling and bottling). I've always assumed bottled rather than bulk.

Does this new Dekang line of juices imply that Janty's other lines of eliquids are produced for Janty by a different manufacturer (other than Dekang) in China or Europe? If so, who?

Hello there...I was wondering if anyone can answer a couple of questions for me...I have been vaping for 4 months and the only juice that I have had out of approx 150 juices that I would consider a 10 would be Dulsis from the vapor talk store.

My first question is why is dulsis considered an ry4 if it has no vanilla as goes the description on the site? If dulsis is truly an ry4, then I would know where to find juices that I might possibly like based on bill's list. My first ry4 was from the vapor store and I just thought it was horrible. That has made me shy away from anything that has ry4 attached to it's name.

This thread is making me rethink my opinion on ry4 only because of what I think about the dulsis. Therefore, if dulsis is really an ry4, my second question is of all the ry4's on bill's list...which ones come close to the taste of dulsis. I may be an ry4 vaper and do not even know it. Hope to get this answered...thanks guys...great thread especially if it points me to the juices that I would love.

Hi Frankster,

OK, first off, it's Dulcis---with a "C"---not Dulsis.

Second, are you assuming that Dulcis has no vanilla just because VaporTalk's on-site description mentions only tobacco "with a hint of caramel"? Don't believe it. That description goes on to use the word "decadent," which is where the vanilla taste comes in. I don't claim to know whether the vanilla in Dulcis is a separate flavor element, part of the caramel flavoring used, or just a trick played on the brain by the overall flavor profile. Doesn't matter, though. Dulcis may not scream "Vanilla!", but it's there in the mix. Can you not taste it?

Keep in mind that nothing about juices, and especially RY4s, is written on stone tablets handed down from on high. The "base ingredients" in RY4---tobacco, caramel, vanilla, and sometimes nuts or ethyl maltol---are guidelines, not laws. That said, once you've vaped many different RY4s for a sufficient period of time, you get to the point of being able to recognize the flavor profile of RY4. Like the Supreme Court justice from back in the 1980s who famously said, "I may not be able to define pornography, but I know it when I see it," the same applies to juice flavor signatures. Trust me, Dulcis is definitely an RY4.

In fact, Dulcis is a classic RY4 (as opposed to a custom RY4). The "classics" tend to be Chinese, either in literal origin or replication, and all share a similar flavor profile (based on the original, first-ever RY4 created by Janty's owner and a Chinese flavor chemist in China one afternoon in 2007), while the newer generation of "custom" RY4s tend to be American, and are all over the map in terms of ingredients and flavor.

I'm told that Dulcis is actually produced in China. Whether or not that's true, the flavor profile is certainly Chinese, though slightly sweeter than some classics. Ry4s that are similar to Dulcis include Taboo from LiquidXpress, Bloog and Smokeless Image Volt RY4s (which some of us feel are the same juice), ElixirLiquid RY4, and Riskee Yuice from Esmoke4life. Of that particular group, all of which have been around for awhile, Dulcis is the highest-ranked on the Big List here---#9 of 71. So, you might already be vaping the pick of that litter. Yeah, I know, vapers are never satisfied with whatever juices they have. It's like a post-hypnotic suggestion that becomes an obsessive-compulsive disorder: Must buy more juices!

i can't say for sure but i believe there are different manufacturers Janty have been dealing with from 2007 to now.
I believe Dekang made juices for them at the beginning (see here), then they switched to the Classic line in late 2009-2010, then recently Elixir and Vitaya lines showed up.
Now the original DK and the Classic are both coming back again.
There's a thread where Ludo's talking about this matter.

Thanks for the info...I have not had the dulcis since my second week of vaping. I do remember that it was the best that I have had since I am vaping, Nothing even comes close to that. I tried the taboo and did not think that it tasted anything like the dulcis, but then again 4 months is a long time to remember how a juice taste in my opinion.

At least now, I know where my juice is going to be found. It will be in the ry4 category for sure. I am just hoping that the dulcis ( when it arrives from wherever) will be as good as I remember. I noticed throughout this entire thread how your top 20 varies so much. I find that amazing...you had bwb ranked first and then it dropped down to like 32 or something and I think it is now at 13. I guess the taste in juices change dramatically through time.

I hope that does not happen with the dulcis. Thank you very much for the info.

I am going to have to change my mind somewhat for what I just wrote in my post above. I know I am going to catch many snide remarks for this observation but based on my first experience with PV4, I must say this is one of the worst juices I have ever tasted. It taste like something you would pour over a roast duck. This does not taste like it belongs in a carto.

Sorry guys, but my first impression of a juice that has remained in the top ten of this thread leaves alot to be desired. Wow, does it taste awful. If this is what ry4's taste like, I will never find a decent juice to vape. Dulcis blows this juice out of the water. Sorry if I offended anyone, just my taste buds.

Frankster,

If someone grows up in a village in France and knows four brothers from another French family in the village, he will probably see their differences quite distinctly. If, however, he then travels and lives around the world, meeting families from China, Denmark, Mexico, and other cultures, when he returns to France, he'll suddenly notice the striking similarities of the four French brothers. It's a question of perspective: You taste the differences between Dulcis and Taboo. I taste the similarities. Different perspectives.

Yes, the rankings change all the time. In the beginning I gave equal weight to 1. my own likes/dislikes, 2. my estimation of the quality of ingredients and production, and 3. my perception of a given RY4's general popularity. At that point, I liked BWB RY4 a lot, felt it to be a high-quality juice, and understood that it was the by far the most popular RY4 among ECF posters. Thus the initial #1 ranking.

After some months of watching the Big List grow while vaping and reviewing more and more RY4s, I began to conclude that the whole idea of a ranking list was sort of stupid (rather like those idiotic articles or TV shows with pretentious titles such as "The Top 100 Rock Songs of All Time" or "Best 50 Movies Ever Made")---pure silliness, and good only for entertainment or provoking arguments. I still feel that, more now than ever.

As a result, one change I made in approaching the rankings was to throw out the notion of popularity and go almost entirely with my own likes/dislikes and regard for quality. I also fell out of love with BWB RY4 by finding other RY4s I liked better. Thus, BWB RY4 steadily fell in the rankings, all the way into the 30s eventually.

Recently, I readjusted my ranking values to again give at least some weight to my estimation of a juice's popularity, so BWB RY4 has recovered somewhat.

Again and again, I try to warn readers to mostly ignore my rankings, since they're pretty much bogus---like a beauty contest that continually adds new contestants, but has only one judge---me. Given how subjective taste and flavor preferences are, my rankings are unlikely be accurate for others or do anyone else much good in finding an RY4 they'll love. Heck, the rankings don't even stay the same for me, since my palate evolves and changes over time. I continue to rank RY4s on the Big List because people seem to love competitions with winners and losers, but I don't even take my own rankings seriously anymore and have stated that I will stop ranking entirely after the Big List hits 100 RY4s (which should happen within six months).

And even without any of those reasons, the rankings would still have changed very much simply because the Big List started out with 29 RY4s---26 of which were ranked---and now has 71. The original 26 are now spread throughout the List to accommodate the other 45 that have been added to the rankings over the past eight months. The last-place RY4 from the original June 2011 List (oRYental 4) is still in last place, but now it's buried under the weight of a lot more (and to me better) RY4s. LOL.

By contrast, I think the Category Groups have some inherent value as a consumer guide to help people find an RY4 they might like, so those will remain even after the rankings are terminated, assuming I haven't retreated to a monastery.
