I got my redwood burl woodvil sent off to the Reo Spa today and I let Robert know it was on its way. He told me he was gonna charge me $5million for repairing the spring, a once over to make sure nothing else is wrong with it, and to change it from a poly finish to an oiled finish. 
ya my ebony shorted out and had to go back in 2 years it was my first short and Rob told me it was the firing pin that caused it not my fault so thats good its shipping back tomorrow
This was the first time for a short for me too. I won't use the shorty caros any more. I had been using that carto for a couple of days too with no problem. I chucked it and the batt out to be on the safe side too.

you shouldnt stop using them i have never had a bad one i guess ive been fortunate

I'm scared to use the shortys again. It was the first one I tried and I did like it until my woodvil started smoking. The batt looked alright but decided to chuck it anyways to be on the safe side.
I also found it funny that it didn't short out when I first started using it.
