Glad you liked it Kay. In the program he says that he's 3, 5, 22 years old but in Korea remember that at birth they already are 1 year old. So actually its 2, 4, and 21 yo. Been looking up more info on this kid and what an amazing story. He didn't get any decent housing till about 15-16 and in Korea decent is kinda shabby. He was often brutalized by youth gangs (once almost buried alive by them). He has been hit by cars 3 times. Has tried committing suicide several times. Not clear in the video but was sold to someone (not somewhere). Was badly hurt while working as a construction laborer (in Korea these guys usually work from 8pm to dawn).
I would never been able to tell a story like he did in the video with a straight face. He did, probably only because of the tremendous pressure and pain that he went through every single day of his life. He talks about selling gum and energy drinks, but you gotta realize his customers were probably bar hostesses and patrons who were already drunk as skunks and mean as hell. I'm sure a few were decent but red light districts are usually very cruel to the homeless/beggars. A vocal instructor helped him to get an elementary and intermediate GED certificates and gave him free lessons. Went to an arts type high school but didn't get any real training there because of his work schedule. Really an extraordinary story of survival.
Pleased to let folks know that since he appeared on that program (I think June 2011), he has performed in the US, Korea Blue House (same as our White House), olympics and several concerts as well as various churches (seems to be a Christian now). Saw a post that he now has a recording contract with Sony but I cannot verify that. He also seems to be very sympathetic towards hospitalized patients. So far I could find only two single song recordings of him for sale.
This young man proves that no life is worthless and with determination alone one can succeed.
