Upside Down gingerbread cake? Recipe please.

It's really easy, you melt 2-3 tablespoons of butter and add 1/3-1/2 cup of brown sugar to it, stir it up then place the fruit in it. I am using canned pineapple rings, but you can use peaches, pears etc. in it. Then pour over your gingerbread cake mix and bake it. If you want to make your own gingerbread, you can or use the boxed kind and just follow the directions for baking the cake. When it is done, you take it out and then turn it over on the serving plate and let it sit for about 5 minutes before you remove the baking pan. The reason I like this is I was looking for something other than the regular powdered sugar frosting.

It's my brothers birthday, and he wanted me to make pot roast and gingerbread cake. It is Mom's recipes today apparently!

Hopefully the carpet will be dry when they get here.

Afternoon, REOnauts!

Does anybody know who has decent prices on starter kits and she wants something "pretty"? lol:laugh:
If you're going to the meet, check with Dave from DV, he carries those scrolled eGos that my wife's all goofy over. Reliable, pretty, and cheap. I bet he has a cheap starter or could assemble one on the fly for ya.

Poor Jack :(

Do you fry them first so they are crispy critters?
Oh man, anyone remember reading this book as a kid?

doufeu....means Dutch oven. I had to look it up :)

It is not ANY old dutch oven though, it is made for low and slow meat. It has a very secure lid that has dimples on it, so when the steam rises it condensates on the dimples and self bastes. You can add ice into the lid which has been recessed so the lid is cooler than the rest of it. The ice obviously melts, but the water never boils so cools it enough to cause the condensated juices to baste the meat. It is the best thing ever for braises like a pot roast.

That would be the biggest spill of ejuice I would have ever had. So sorry that happened. I assume it was a Giant Juicy Vapor bottle? When I first get them I ram a .5 Allen wrench right through the hole. I do this to all my Bottles of that style. Glad your knees are better!

It was the biggest spill I have ever had! I usually use a syringe to fill my rba's, and hadn't used this yet to fill the reo bottle so never knew the dang dripper was defective. It was an RY4, so the house smells kinda nutty, especially near the trash can where all the paper towels went

I am definitely going to take your suggestion and ram something through those caps from now on. Not this one though, it was hurled into the trash with great angst.

Well thank you! If my mother were still alive, I would call her and tell her. It is so simple, and good. If you use the boxed cake mix, it is even simpler and fast. If my brother only knew how easy this meal is to make, he wouldn't be having me cook it! Well, maybe he would, he is a 62 year old bachelor and his idea of cooking is pressing buttons on the microwave.

AND Good afternoon everyone! Hope your day is uneventful unlike my fiasco

Thank you, Val. So it's just like pineapple upside down cake except you use gingerbread. I'll have to give it a try.

Yep. I think I need to clarify the recipe a bit. You melt the butter IN the cake pan, add the sugar and mix, add the fruit then pour the cake mix over the fruit and sugar. I think I left the part about the brown sugar and butter in the cake pan, and should have made that clear maybe if no one has ever had an upside down cake LIKE JACK who thinks you bake it upside down. ;)

ETA: it is easier than making frosting and then frosting the cake by far!

and ETA again: It is best served a bit hot with whipped cream. But if you ask your DH to get you whipped cream at the store, he will buy redi-whip instead of whipping cream. And I didn't have the heart to say one word about it, so we will see if they notice the difference for future reference.
