Good Morning Reopeeps,

Cappy just called me...he hadn't slept all night as he had to take his sis to emergency last night..now she has cancer in her liver..

I don't know how he's holding up so well...she was scheduled to start chemo next week on her brain......this is breaking my heart for the both of them.
He had to cancel all the appointments he had for this week to show houses, so no income coming in. He said that her Dr. sounded optimistic but that he always does, but he thinks there's something the Dr.'s not telling him. I wish with all my heart i could go there
and be there for him to do whatever was needed to help him thru this.
Everyones prayers, good vibes, and healing vibes seem to work pretty good for so many of us,please give him a boatload of them.

A boatload sent darlin and good morning to ya

Good morning REOvillians!

Kay, please tell Cappy our thoughts and prayers are with him and his sister. This is terrible news, mets to both the brain and liver! :(

Thanks Val! She'd just gone thru chemo and radiation on another part of her body during this past year, I believe it was. And she lost her husband just before this past Christmas. It's been very bad times for cappy and his family.

P.S. what does "mets" mean?

Metastasis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Metastasis, or metastatic disease, is the spread of a cancer from one organ or part to another non-adjacent organ or part. The new occurrences of disease thus generated are referred to as metastases (sometimes abbreviated mets)[1][2] It was previously thought that only malignant tumor cells and infections have the capacity to metastasize; however, this is being reconsidered due to new research.[3] In origin metastasis is a Greek word meaning "displacement", from μετά, meta, "next", and στάσις, stasis, "placement". The plural is metastases.

Cancer occurs after a single cell in a tissue is progressively genetically damaged to produce a cancer stem cell possessing a malignant phenotype. These cancer stem cells are able to undergo uncontrolled abnormal mitosis, which serves to increase the total number of cancer cells at that location. When the area of cancer cells at the originating site becomes clinically detectable, it is called a primary tumor. Some cancer cells also acquire the ability to penetrate and infiltrate surrounding normal tissues in the local area, forming a new tumor. The newly formed "daughter" tumor in the adjacent site within the tissue is called a local metastasis.
Some cancer cells acquire the ability to penetrate the walls of lymphatic and/or blood vessels, after which they are able to circulate through the bloodstream (circulating tumor cells) to other sites and tissues in the body. This process is known (respectively) as lymphatic or hematogeneous spread.

After the tumor cells come to rest at another site, they re-penetrate the vessel or walls and continue to multiply, eventually forming another clinically detectable tumor. This new tumor is known as a metastatic (or secondary) tumor. Metastasis is one of three hallmarks of malignancy (contrast benign tumors).[4] Most neoplasms can metastasize, although in varying degrees (e.g., basal cell carcinoma rarely metastasize).[4]

When tumor cells metastasize, the new tumor is called a secondary or metastatic tumor, and its cells are similar to those in the original tumor. This means, for example, that, if breast cancer metastasizes to the lungs, the secondary tumor is made up of abnormal breast cells, not of abnormal lung cells. The tumor in the lung is then called metastatic breast cancer, not lung cancer.

Val, thanks for all the detailed info., I appreciate it!

Jeni,I'm really glad that yours wasn't so invasive!

My Mom died from cancer when she was only in her late thirties, but of course back then, little was known about the treatment of cancer.
My poor Dad was left with seven kids to try to raise.
