Good Morning everyone!!!!
I'm an emotional mess today. 6 yrs ago at this very moment I was just getting to hospital to deliever one of the most precious children in the world. I was blessed with Dawson Eugene at 10:21pm tonight. At 2 days old, we were informed that our precious baby boy had a heart condition. There were the times when he was in congestive heart failure that we were unsure if he would make it
through. I was told he may never walk. My boy proved them all wrong at 21 months and took his first steps.
Dawson has struggle since day one with mouth issues. I look back and realize the fact that he could never use a slow flow nipple on his bottle might of been partly because his heart but mainly because Velopharyngeal inadequacy(the flap in back of his mouth not closing off airflow properly). I found out right before 3 years old what the issue with his speech was. Dawson even though honestly it was/is hard as his mother to understand what he says he has never given up on talking. Last March, Dawson went
through the most tramatic surgery yet, he had his whole palette sliced wide open so the doctor could put a hourglass shape of throat tissue across his airway. He wasn't allowed to eat any solid food for 2 weeks. We went to followup to only find out that the stitches had popped open and he had to go back and have it redone. Dawson had 26 days solid of no solid food. I can honestly say that he was stronger then I would of been. Now almost a year later he is making great progress in speech.
As many of you already know, Dawson was having a horrible time in Pre-K(I think partl teachers fault/not on medicine yet). I was not told about any issues until late April when school started trying to separate my baby from his regular peers. This school took over the decision and placed him in a "behavior" class without my permission basically.
I am proud to say once again my boy has been presistent and proved everyone wrong. Tuesday afternoon we had IEP meeting. Dawson is offical classified as a "regular student". The only time he is in that behavior class is 15 minutes for arrival and 15 minutes for dismissal. He is offically doing everything as a Kindergartener.
Wow what this boy has taught his mom in his short 6 yrs.
