That is why I choose not to eat Bear where I live so many of them dine at local garbage dumps and that's just icky.
I beleive the movie/book was called Alive.
Stay away from looking at what company produce farms feed stock. Will most totally gross most people out. We like to do as much free range, vegetarian fed meat/fowl as possible. My chef Son in Law once spent a great deal of time explaining to me the differences in the same species of fish, for instance, taste/texture, etc., that was caught different areas of HI islands. I was totally fascinated but a lot of info to digest (sic) in one sitting.
Although I don't feed organic foods to my pack of large/Giant dogs, I do look pretty closely at the meat sources. Now that we've reduced in numbers and sizes we still go
through 60 lbs of food stuffs a week. (The smaller, less energy conserving dogs eat as much as the laid back, but active, GIANTS.) Really can't afford the all organic, free range meats foods any more. (never did actually but we used to go
through over 100 lbs a week), but we do mostly no grains or only a few good grains like rice and barley. They get duck, salmon, chicken, alternated every week.
For you Escargot fans..... some common american snails are very similar to the imported snails from Europe and can be consumed safely; many of them.
I love Escargot and virtually all organ meats from most animal products I've eaten. Had some pretty good fried bugs, too. Had my first chocolate covered grass hoppers back in 60's. Which reminds me I need to take picture of the red grasshopper that flew in my car last week. I thought it was a red wasp (not allergic but hurts like hell and good to not be driving when they sting).... Just saw a red flash, in peripheral vision, and buzz going past my face, going out the drive. Stopped and couldn't find it. Later found it in doggie water bowl, in car, that still had some water in it. It survived 24 hours, in water, and I had to clasp it firmly to keep it from springing out of my hand.Neither DH nor I have ever seen a red grasshopper out here. Remember, we are the folks who keep a dissecting microscope handy, just feet from kitchen, to look at bugs.
