You guys are so sweet. I zeroed it out and had a electronic recycling company come pick it up last week. They pick up for free which I thought was really neat. I had put everything in my trunk incase I ran across a recycle drop off. Of course now that I was looking for the signs, there were none. And a full trunk makes it hard to do grocery shopping.

The loosing of all my pictures and address book was my fault. I didn't check to see if it burned them after I thought I had like a dummy - live and learn. I did get my bookmarks burnt correctly though.

that really sucks hon im sorry i know how important that stuff can be i backup to a thumb drive 2 infact

If you still have the hard drive to that PC, it may be possible that your pictures can be salvaged. Something similar happened to my wife's ancient Gateway and she had lost years worth of pictures that were dear to her. I had bought and installed a cd burner specifically so she could burn them to cd's, but she never did.

Luckily, her ex-bf is a friend of the family and a I.T. guru. He was able to retrieve her pictures and back them up on one of his servers.

On that subject I kept some software recovery program that is very good and easy to use should anyone need it for curupt/damaged HDs...FYI: Data Recovery Software to Get Back Data | Deleted File Recovery Programs

When my other one, her buddy, died, i started feeding Tiger canned food and treats ( she was very skinny,lol)

The other one was BORN fat,lol, so I didn't dare feed him canned food, too

I case you didn't know thumb drives/flash drives can lose memory or a long time (bit rot) and are not really ment for long time storage but more for moving of data. I'd hate to see you lose any important data. Truth be told I never have lost any but thats what we were taught.

so gil my wife uses a box about 5x5x3/4 that she stores everything on it has a short wire with usb plug on it is that the same thing ? maybe not the best ? disks would be better ?

No that perfect...sounds like an external drive. Always good to keep back ups off site or in that case the PC.

EDIT: Some people keep several HDs IN the PC...one that they use and the 2nd to back up on which is fine but should the MB fry then it could fry all the HDs and you would have lost everything. With and external HD the whole PC could explode and you'd still have all your data....well assuming you house god forbid doesn't go up with it.

Oops..yeah I did.

DVDs (hold more) and CDs are fine but just don't break or misplace them. They can get scratched but nothing is really full proof. I prefer USB External HardDrives myself.
