Did you torch it? You can also soak it in PGA, but I know that's not an option for you.

No, it's supposed to be pretty much fire proof.

The next time you build a coil/wick assembly, torch the hole thing with a blue flame before you attach it to your ERA. Just a few quick passes is good enough.
