My credit card was compromised a couple of weeks ago but my bank caught it before I did. But it was the pitts because I use that card for everything and then just pay off the balance each month. I had to go hunt down my checks so I could at least buy food for me and the animals.

This has been happening a lot lately I believe Sashie was hit as well as several others that I know here on ECF.. I would like to take this opportunity to make a public apology to all of the lives I affected negatively for my own personal greed for I lived the life of a credit card fraud specialist and not from the good side
I have paid my debt to society but will forever live with the guilt especially when I hear it happening to my friends and family. I will tell you this there's really not a lot you can do to stop it because the majority of the theft of your own credit card info comes from hackers hacking in to the major cc clearing houses that businesses use for processing or from the banks themselves so in some cases the card holders may have never even used the card. The info called "dumps" is then sold in underground chat rooms and is then used by people called "carders" who take that info and with special software and hardware put it on their card and go to stores and drain your money as fast as they can before you catch it all I can say is set up as many alerts as your bank allows to inform you when there is any purchases against your card so it can be caught as fast as possible and some even have an option that make the merchant call for approval on larger purchases where they will ask to speak with you for additional secret password or other info to prove its you. I have since turned my life around October 16th I'll have 6 years clean and sober and work my ... off for every dime I make today only law I break today is occasionally I drive 5-7 mph over the speed limit Sent while Hyper Vapin 1 of my many Reo's

(((Pietro))) While credit card fraud was never anything I was involved with, that feeling you have when you read of others being victimized by someone who has done something you used to do is a feeling I know very well. Its harsh and it sucks. Kudos to you (and many of us) for making the change and living life the right way.

Thanks JJ I appreciate that it wasn't an easy to turn it around but thanks to God (and I've never been much of a religious person) I have my self respect back and today I'm probably too honest if there is such a thing

Good for u Pietro. I too was living on the wrong side of the fence. I was fortunate to never be incarcerated but have and still do my part to right the wrongs I did in the past. I know from myself and watching many others change their lives that people can change. Good to know you are one of us now.

Another tip is to check your bank account, credit cards, etc. daily. I've done this for the longest time. I've even gotten phone calls from the WF Fraud dept at times making sure I was the one doing the spending and it always was until the last time. They caught the 2 purchases this time before they even hit my cc acct. They called me on my cell phone which I didn't even realize that they had that number. I hung up and called the number on the back of my card to make sure the phone call was real. They laughed at me but understood why I did what I did. Both of the purchases were done overseas which is what alerted them. One was even done through paypal although I didn't even have that card attached to my paypal account. So what I did there was to change my password at paypal and then called the cc company of the cc I use for paypal and had them cancel that card and reissue me new number to be on the safe side.
I have my suspicions where my card was compromised at but nothing I can prove. I ordered a collar and leash for Ben the Dog from a company I never did business with before. The day before WF contacted me, I saw a double charge to that company. I contacted the company via their site to find out what was going on and was waiting to hear back from them before contacting WF about it.
After I got done with the Fraud dept at WF, I had them contact me to the cc dispute dept. I stayed on the line, while the dispute dept contacted that company. When he came back, he told me that they had told him that I had called them the day before about it. I told the guy I had not called them but had emailed them with no response back from them. It might have been a coincidence of the double charge and the compromised.

Congratulations Pietro on turning your life around. Most people have things in their past that they regret, I know I do. But it sounds like you are on a good path, and have built a beautiful and loving family. You have accomplished much to be proud of.
