We have been mixing Ivermectin for our many, many Giants/large since the early 80's. No way many people can afford pre-made heartworm preventive for 1500+ lbs of canines a month. AND for the first few months we did get the very precisesly measured chewables for the Heeler girls when they were so tiny. With tiny fragile Bubs I certainly would get the pre-made. (The Heeler Girls and the Doodles and Jake Mastiff and the neighbors Auntie Chaco and their two cats (we provided them with the Advantage as the introduction to envirnoment was our fault) all had to be on Advantage for about 5 months to stop the sarcoptic mange in Heeler girls and as a preventive for the others that came in contact with them. And they were quarantined to our properties for all that time. It was very very expensive.

BTW.... The little Heeler girls were not exhibiting a whole lot of scratching but the Vet found sarcoptic and some skin infections starting at their first visit at 8 weeks age. That and every worm except Heartworm (almost too young for larvae to have matured if they did have them so it was safe to use product to treat larvae if there were any) and except for whips. Vet said they were critical from worms although they looked and acted healthy. They didn't even get any runs from worming meds which you always expect. I attribute that to their having strong "guts" and the food I put them on the moment they got here. The Heeler girls were the most expensive "free" puppies we have ever had. Actually more expensive than any "show quality" Mastiff puppies we ever purchased.

{edit} At 60 lbs they eat almost as much as Jake Mastiff now that he had stopped growing and learned to "conserve" energy as most Masiffs do. In case anyone is interested..... we go through about 40 lbs of very high quality, concentrated food a week and about 20 lbs of healthy dog bones and 8 lbs of doggie Chicken Jerky a week. Once a week they all get big Bully sticks (Jake goes through two before the others have finished their first. Luckily there are 12 in each bag.) And veggies and fruits and some cheese.

{second edit} When I screw up and have to get the best grocery store food they finish off 15 lbs in a 24 hour period.

Alice, please make sure your chicken jerky isn't manufactured in China! Most are and there have been countless recalls, ill dogs and death. We have resorted to old fashioned Alpo biscuits and Milkbones. Going to try some homemade pumpkin treats with the jack o' lantern guts. Hugs to you and the Bub squad!

Thanks Jen. I'll check. It's the 4 lb bags from Costco. I haven't checked in a while. I usually get alert emails. Good thing is Doodles and Healer girls are from long lines of working /farm/ranch stock except for Doodles' dad, Standard Poodle, (Mom long line hunting Labs) and Jake's parents but he's morphed into a rugged country hound despite no influence on the line he came from other than my breeding program several generations back. I didn't know that until right before I made the day trip to see him. He came home with me.

Waiting on DH's late flight. Flight tracking is not showing anything. He's lost in the Ozone!!!

Hugs, Feisty Alice

I got my shiny new RED Metal Flake 18490 today, I cannot begin to find the words to describe how beautiful it is!! It's like the Candy Apple Red you see on some cars at custom car shows, like Scarlet's red party dress in Gone With The Wind, it is even more fabulous than I thought it would be. Seriously, this REO is going to be buried with me, I am in Love!!

For Sure!!!!! Our lives revolve somewhat around them.

All of the broken hearts, over the years, are helped to mend by their "pack mates" our children. DD used to rib me about so many Bub photos in my billfold and only a couple of her. She was, of course, the most important child but she grew up.

Even though the Bubss are my dearest children their first and foremost function is protection. But there is more safety in numbers. So that eases the guilt somewhat.

Hugs, Feisty Alice
