It's good to be caught up at a time when some of you are here
I'm away from the fires but we're surrounded by a thick smoke haze. It's been terrible Darrel, so many people have lost their homes and it's only the start of the bush fire season. I saw where Dave mentioned 120F I don't know how he manages to live in it, we broke all records and hit 42C the day the fires started and it was awful. My Celtic genes don't like the heat!

well 42 c is basically 108 f so close enuf IMO so did your friends Dad get found Is that what I gathered on FB ?

and we got the information super fast thanks to FB as you might have seen. I'll never moan about FB again. My friend lives in Melbourne and was going crazy not knowing if he was ok so it was a great result.

Thanks Lisa, it's a hard time for so many people but the Tasmanians have been wonderful at helping out and other states and New Zealand are sending Firies in to give our poor overworked guys a break. There's been a couple of cases of looting (there are always some rotten people no matter where you live) one got caught and the locals tied him to a fence till the cops got there. I think they showed great restraint!
Two summers ago we were in the middle of a horrible drought and fires were popping up everywhere. We had to evacuate from here because of the smoke. 2 hours away (at my folks house) a huge fire got acres away from my parents house and destroyed several homes of childhood friends. Come to find out arsonists were setting a lot of the fires. It still pisses me off to think about.

The whole thing sounds horrible.
I live on top of a hill and about 20k from the nearest fires but I'm keeping a close eye on the hill opposite where my son lives as he is surrounded by bush and it's tinder dry. The helicopters carrying water to dump are overhead all the time. We really need a good downpour of rain Jan, fingers crossed we get some soon.
