Morn'n Fine REO Folk. Major storm (another - wee hours one was mostly wind and no lightening so was able to hot tub but it certainly played hell with the umbrella I use for sun and rain shield; 50 mph gust - my 11 footer has survived 70 mph straight line wind in open position and even came loose, levitated for a few seconds and then flew across deck slaming and lodging into railing - but even though this 9 footer over spa has fiberglass ribs it's not rated commercial -I stopped getting the hinged poles years ago as they just don't hold up to our even mild winds even in fully straight up position)

Haven't done much catching up but saw mention of diesel smell. I've driven diesel trucks since early 80's and we got a used diesel Mercedes for Y2K. I stored 750 gallons of it here in tanks. Got it here by moving about 200 gallons, at a time, in a big container (those poly cubes reinforced by metal cage) that I hand pumped from a truck stop. Then basically moved it from tank in truck bed to tanks on ground using gravity mostly. Needless to say my whole body smelled like diesel for days despite numerous attemps to wash off. Trashed the clothes. Combusted diesel fumes (exhaust) are much more pleasant to ME than what lingered on my body and clothes from "swimming" in it.

WOW!! Took me a bit to catch up with you peeps. Now I forgot who posted what, must be an age issue . My puter decided to reboot due to some some update so lost my multi quotes. The very few I do remember, I'll comment on.

Dave I get to go get stress tested every 2 years and still here after about 10 years. I really hated the treadmill thing because of my nerve damage so the last test it was done without it. Nut quite sure how it went but only an xray before and after drinking something and waiting for a little bit. Must be a special procedure for folks like me who can't run. However, I think that I'd still be able to smoke Jack in a race

Rupert and my Moe Doodle share that attitude. Moe is civil but he only wants/needs adoration and love from DH and me. He basically tolerates all dogs, even his pack, and all other people. Hope you snag some good eat'n fish and Isobel gets in some fun swims.

Call me a purist, but I think you're better off getting a VV Grand instead of trying to Kick a mechanical. Even if I was going to un-mechanical my Grand, I wouldn't do it with a Kick - the Crown looks much more appealing to me. I've been fiddling with a Vamo and I gotta say, variable wattage is the shizzle for my nizzle.

VV Grand is worth every nickle you'd spend on the device, batteries, charger, etc.

But, since you mentioned size being a consideration, the Reo Mini 2.1 with a RBA and 28 gauge kanthal would be my choice over using a Kick in a Grand or a Mini. A 0.08 to 1.1 ohm coil on a mechanical mod far outperforms a Kicked mod with a 2.0 to 3.0 ohm coil. I don't really notice the voltage sag like I thought I would.

Rob has developed an affordable and durable RBA to use with his Reos and it should be available for purchase soon.

Forgot about Becky's post regarding the rat. I've had small dogs most of my life, the last being a Shih Tsu and loved them all dearly. The rat, well he'll probably be okay inside the house but I need a good watch dog that I can let loose in the backyard/sides of house especially if nobody at home. I need to keep any riff raft/curmudgeons away aka "naked man running away from angry husband"

I could see having a go with the Crown using a telescoping mod, but with fixed battery configuration mods like Reos, you'd have to put their Vape Safe spacer thingie under the battery along with the crown on top. A battery sandwich. I'm not a fan of that application, personally.

Damn, I can't even take a nap without the bad vibes of someone talking about me disturbing my slumber. (Oh, and you'd be surprised how quickly this crippled up old man can move when he has too... just can't do it for long.)

About your little rat dog. Once again I'm going to be the contrarian and most probably be made sport of. I have more than a little bit of experience when it comes to handling dogs and investigating burglaries. There is a distinct difference between using a working dog on patrol or for personal defense. They serve a dual purpose, the first and foremost is actually as a psychological deterrent. Most people will do what you tell them to do when you have a highly trained working dog sitting next to you. I think it has something to do with a fear of being eaten alive. If for some reason they don't do what you tell them to do the size and temperament of the dog comes into play. (that's the fun part. Violence may be crude... but it works.)

A dog for home protection is a different matter entirely. (This is where I'll get verbally abused.) Home burglaries, (with rare exceptions), are acts of opportunity. Vacant house, (except for cat burglars), lots of cover around doors and windows, unlocked doors and no signs of alarms. (That's why people put up alarm company signs in their yard even though they have no alarm system.)

The first and foremost thing burglars tend to avoid are houses with dogs... small, yappy, neighbor alerting dogs. Big dogs, no matter how potentially aggressive are easily killed, (a simple wrap of leather around your forearm and a knife in your other hand pretty much guarantees you're not going to get a scratch). A small, yappy dog on the other hand is quick, mobile, can race from bush to bush, under a porch, or just keep running in circles if out in the yard all the while making enough noise to raise the dead. If confined inside the house they hide under chairs, couch, coffee table, etc., while sounding the alarm.

Take the time to talk to enough burglars and you'll notice one common denominator... they don't like noise, they'll always move on to a house with no alarm and no dog.

Cats are even harder to catch but they don't make as much noise... unless you're swingin' 'em around your head by the tail.

Get a rat dog, or buy a gun and stay home.
