That is when i can get on a list for senior apt/housing. They have the nicest places to live with transportation and lots of parties/activities. I have 2 an 1/2 years to wait just to be on a list!
Right now i live in between 2 dead end dirt roads with only one neighbor close by.Living alone is lonely when it is out in the sticks!
It's a beech getting older but there are some perks. I had to drop my fabulous health
insurance down from $1140/mo, with no co-pay (100% pay), no limits, with $1700 deductible to a $400 plan, same benefits but $10K deductible, until I can pick up Obomacare in January. But main thing is anxiously awaiting Medicare which starts in July 2014. That's the only reason I want to be 65. Our new place is not subsidized and the age start is 55yr. Lots of working peeps there with fancy cars. Retirement community adjoining our place is subsidized but age has to be over 62 or maybe higher. They don't have attached garages and all porches open onto common green area, like a square enclosed on all sides by building, not very large and not wooded or even many trees, but it's a nice place otherwise, with lots of activities (and they have a pond but dogs can't be off lead any place.) Several hundreds less. And you have to have under a certain income, which we would qualify for at our current, greatly reduced income, but I don't think they allow pets above 20lbs, if at all. At our new place, toward front, only way in, someone has a very loud Macaw on porch during warm temps. It's much more annoying than most dog barking. It's very verbal and screechy; as many birds can be. Has a pretty extensive vocabulary as far as I can tell.
Weather here balmy getting up into high 70's/low 80's. We had several freezing nights last week and cold days but staying in 60's, at night, for next week or so. Moving in winter, here, is not so bad, unless it's raining. Our new place won't have the high winds we get but windy enough. Being north Texas it could snow next week or be in 80's. It's like that all
through December but most freezing is in January and then starts to warm up mid Feb. Two of our record snows, very wet 16", in a 24 hr period, were in Feb. Winters are not so bad except for the ice storms. No one can drive on those roads. And lots of electricity out from downed power lines and downed trees. I am keeping my little butane catalytic heaters for just such weather as new place is all electric just like here. And keeping two small generators (for heat and AC with portable roll around AC unit) and all the portable back up
batteries. One generator for house and one for garage in case of lengthy power outages. I would assume place has some kind of big generator, if only for club house. Lots of old peeps with nowhere to go with no electricity for heat and cooling with 100+ temps would be deadly.
Started dogs on individual bowls, twice a day, leaving down an hour, rather than free feed. Everyone starting to adjust except for Moe Doodle. He'll eat when he gets hungry enough.
Love and hugs.
