Just found out the family feud started before the holiday this year...my cousin just called off dinner at his house. Kinda rude this late in the game in my opinion.

Who is Lydia?

Beautiful snow day, Laurin! Enjoy your homemade bread and stay warm!

Karen, good morning to you too! Rainbows and unicorns. I hope the roads stay clear for you.
I posted this yesterday:
"Turkeys love to be caressed, and people often remark that they respond just like their own dogs and cats. And while turkeys make a purring sound when they are content, you haven't lived until you've had a turkey hen fall asleep under your arm. This is when I see hearts and minds completely transformed. The trick is knowing exactly where the secret spot is under her belly. You know right away when you find it, because she will literally melt under your touch, relaxing her body, closing her eyes, purring and softly clucking all the while.
Some turkeys are more affectionate than others, climbing into your lap and making themselves as comfortable as can be. A particularly friendly turkey named Lydia became infamously known as the 'hugging turkey', because she would do just that. As soon as you crouched down, she would run over to you, press her body against yours, and crane her head over your shoulders, clucking all the while. It's amazing how generous a hug can be even without arms."

I would say its a "liitle" late to be cancelling the diner. What is the backup plan?

I guess Amazon is trying to push the Prime by raising the total purchase for free shipping to $35.

It irks me when things change like that. I would always try to come up with enough for the free shipping. Combining products till I reached my goal.

Now I have to order my At a Glance I use for work. Need to think really hard to remember what else I need or can buy now.

Too bad REO stuff is not on Amazon! I would never have this problem!
Yeah I noticed that a few weeks ago about the $35. I'll just hold off ordering stuff til I need it and it totals over $35 rather than just ordering stuff I really can do without. Grrrr...

Oops...forgetful moment! I adore Lydia's story, but had already forgotten her name.
We had a couple of turkeys when I was growing up. They were bought with the intention of being cooked, so I never paid them any attention. I learned my lesson after one of my sweet baby cows hit the freezer. All my love went to my horses and the dogs.

Sounds lovely, Laurin!

We have a slight chance of snow today...unheard of for Texas Novembers. Temp is 37 so if we get it, it will just add to the lake in the yard from the 5 day raining spell we've been under. I'm keeping watch at the windows just in case there is a flurry.

Laurin, what fabulous news. Didn't you go over there two years ago? My how time flies.

Karen, I just made an $8 purchase Amazon. It was free shipping. Do you have the Prime membership? The $79/year fee? I do and it really pays off especially large and/or really heavy stuff.

Jen, sorry about family feud. Was it you or Tripp or Dan who posted a really funny Youtube of "Redneck Thanksgiving" last year or before. It was hilarious! It was breezy, to say the least, last night and wet, wet, wet. I'm at new place with Rosie Heeler so made midnight walkies a short one. I think it was barely above freezing but with wind the "feels like" temp was around 20F or below. It's major sunny today but low 40's but warming up a bit every day. T-day might get near 50F.

DH picked up all the T-day fix'ns last night including six eggplants I'm doing, again, for another Potluck here Friday night. I printed up recipe for folks to pick up. Three people asked me if any was left from last week. Had three containers frozen so just enough for them. We don't normally do it but I want greenbean casserole this year. Need to get DH to pick up some of those onion ring things. I'll be working on pool while he's cooking. And 12 lb turkey is thawing in garage fridge right now. We did goose last year. It was too much trouble for the returns. I'm ordering a "wild" turkey for Christmas. Now, that's some good eating.

Keep those you love close in heart and mind. Find and give some happy.

Alice, no I don't have Amazon Prime. I looked it over well about a year ago and decided it was NOT cost effective for me.

Most things that I order are not Prime eligible. You really have to watch what you order. I didn't like that. I refuse to buy a more expensive product or a bigger quantity of a product to get their free shipping.

And their movies and shows are not that much different than Netflix!

Good (insert time of day) REOvillians.

I am off to the pet store to get HRHcat some special food. As expected since it took so long, nothing grew so no infection. This is a case of no news is bad news, but I already knew that. I am half ...... at the vet because I took him back and told him I wasn't happy with his progress and wanted him seen. Vet assured me nothing was wrong as he was just tested, gave him a shot he never should have gotten which pushed him over the edge, and now I have to buy expensive food for the rest of what is left of his kidneys life. Sorry, venting, but really sad to lose him and now it is just a matter of time.

I already called my breeder to share the bad news, but they have been out of the business for 2 years due to health. I have another line on rehoming an adult female queen, so will probably go that route if I pass the reference check (and I pretty much did in the phone call accidentally sobbing about Beau and telling of all the care he has received and the fact he is as old as he is and I have references to prove it). Breeders are picky about where these cats go, like Alice with her dogs they want to make sure their beloveds find a forever, loving home that matches their temperaments and needs with mine. That softens the blow a little bit, knowing I can find one to adopt who I can love since a kitten would take 6 months to a year to get.

Anyway, I hope everyone else has a great day!

I have had Amazon Prime for years, and love it. If we lived a bit closer to each other in Ohio, I would totally hook you up. :D

does anyone know if a abandoned and gone feral cat can be a house cat? First i would have to get my neighbor to trap it then get it fixed. anyway the cat is black and has a bobtail. It is bigger than my dog o_O and it is wild :(

I have always kept stray dogs that were abandoned but they were puppys and so easy to feed and catch :)

I want this cat because it is only a matter of time before someone kills it. People shoot cats out here :( I know it is abandoned because i asked some of my neighbors and found out. It has been 6 months on its own. Once it came in my house but it was so wild it scared me and i left the door opened so it would leave. I wasn't thinking it might be abandoned!

That's so nice! I guess I really don't shop enough on Amazon. Frequently I find better deals at other places.

Often I click on the seller and go to their site. I have found that I can find the item for less just getting it from them. Or I go to the manufacture site.

I might try the free 30 day trial. Might!

We save a lot of money choosing the Subscribe and Save option, on many of the products we use regularly. I buy a lot of electronics stuff, so that's the main reason I use Amazon.

I can't speak to the veracity of this article but it looks very promising.

How to Tame Feral Cats

Thanks I will go read that, and i just found out the cat is a Manx. They think he is a male and he is brave because he walks up the middle of the dirt roads surrounding my property in the daytime. He does look alert and watches warily. I think it is so he can check out the woods for rabbits and whatever other wildlife he can spot...

The puppies worked out because they were puppies. I have had feral cats, they don't do well inside, as they have been outside hunting all their lives, cats are very much more predators than dogs in that respect.

There is a "time frame" in an animal's life where they learn to be with humans, be handled, petted, and not destroy furniture, curtains, etc.

Best thing you can do for this one is probably to try to provide a "safe" place where they could sleep, i.e. a small box a few feet off the ground, but where they could also look out, and have openings at both ends so they don't feel trapped, or get trapped, if confronted by another animal. And you can of course feed them there, put a small soft blanket there, etc.

I have used large plastic bins and had holes large enough for them to crawl thru routed (like doorknob holes) into both sides. NOt too big either, but big enough for them to crawl thru. Then you put the top back on , try to get an opaque one of course! Thicker plastic is a good insulator, and the containers need to be not too big, as the animal's body heat in a small space will keep them warm.

However, 9 timees out of 10 they do not end up using it. :)

Since I have worked in rescue a long time, both with wildlife as well as cats and dogs, I have had to develop a philosophy that, like us, animals have their own karma or destiny or whatever yuy wish to to call it based on your spiritual beliefs. Sometimes, we just have no options but to let that play out. Cuz it will anyway. :)\

Most animals have such keen instincts,, compared to ours, so I have a lot more trust in them than most people anyway.

I am not telling you not to try to tame the feral cat. I am saying that even once you gain their trust, depending on HOW LONG they have lived outside, living "inside" really may not be an option for them.

I have one here. He is very strong. And very smart. He tried bullying my domestic cats for 2 years, and learned that doesn't get him what he wants from me. He eats with them out on the porch when my cats are outside. My cats were both feral kittens, so I was able to teach them a bit. They are still very "uncomfortable" in the house, though they do come in when they wish. They have a fabulous "condo" that is heated on the covered porch, and my dogs bark like crazy if ANYTHING comes around here, so the cats are pretty safe. They never seem to go more than 50 feet from the cabin

but this feral male, he is NEVER going to be a cat you can hold, pet, etc.

Alice- no big deal about the family fued, now I'll have my folks & grandparents to myself. I don't lose sleep over my cousins. Just funny that they are fighting & not even together yet. I'm happy to hear you have sunshine & hope it is headed this way! Not sure about who posted the rednecks last year. Hugs to you!

Val- continued hugs to you & HRHcat.

Peggy-there is a feral cat here that after three years of leaving food on the back porch, will tolerate a little petting from me & sister. He still won't come in the house, but does come to his basket on the back porch with a heat lamp on cold nights. I think it depends on the kitty. Good luck!
