The shoulder is a bit sorer today. That is due to the nerve block having completely worn off. I have been doing the recommended excercises and I got out to run a few errands and get my physical therapy scheduled (I start on Tuesday). I have been trying to get away with the smaller pain pills, but that really hasn't worked very well today so I may have to keep using the Percocet for the near future. I am going to try Val's suggestion about using the Benadryl to try and sleep tonight as it took me almost 4 hours to fall asleep last night :( Other than that, life is grand ;)

Mike, if the prescription says to take 1 pill every 4 to 6 hours, try taking a half pill. If it doesn't work, you can always take the other half.

Even better would be: take the half pill, then if it were every 4 hours take the other half in 2 hours. In other words, take half the dose at half the interval. This will result in the same amount of drug being in your system, but will prevent a "crash" from the pill wearing off before the next is due. After you get the schedule going it worked better for me because mine would wear off before another was due and then I would be chasing pain again. And sometimes I didn't even need the other half, so could take less and still get the pain relief I needed. Less is always better in my book, but you also want to take it if you need it. I always wrote down when I took it, and if it was a half or a whole so I always knew when I started feeling awful again whether or not I could take something.

But the benadryl will really help if they are keeping you awake like they do me. If one benadryl (diphenhydramine) 25 mg. doesn't work, you can take another after a while and that should put you in a coma (just kidding) 50 mgs is within the dosage range of use. Again, I always start with a minimum amount and leave my options open ;)

I hope you are feeling better soon!

HRH has once more thieved the car and headed to the shops, because she needs new shoes, to go with her new haircut (no guesses where she spent the afternoon) and outfit for tomorrow's office Christmas Party at the local golf club.

I, of course, have a 4:00PM dental appointment tomorrow where no doubt he will once more sandblast half my face off and i'll walk out of there looking like a glazed doughnut.

My preparation for said party: 100% VG trunkerjuice and some 0.5Ω coils to fog the place out. Maybe a shave.

Wish i'd been nicer to Dennis, maybe he'd send me stuff then too ;)

The Evil One made the point that I just had the surgery yesterday and should probably be taking the big pills for the next couple days at least. She does like the half pill at a time idea :)

It really helped me. Right after surgery I was taking a half pill every 2 hours as soon as I felt the nerve block wearing off, but over the next few days it went to maybe every 2 and half hours, then 3 etc. Now if I need one, I take only a half and that is quite enough, because I never built up a tolerance taking only as much as I needed instead of the whole dang thing.

I also take nsaids (they prescribed ibuprofen) if I needed something more. Percocet has acetaminophen (Tylenol) so don't take any of that, though others like ibuprofen can help with any breakthrough pain or if you think a percocet may be too much. And since you can take ibuprofen with the percs, again if the one doesn't work try to add the other. You will find what works best for you, in the least amounts. I think doing it this way saved me from addiction, 4 surgeries in a few years with a lot of pain in between meant I had them prescribed all the time. ;)

Freezing, precipitation coming (but probably ice storms and not snow - the kind that takes down power lines and trees with resulting transformers blowing all over - lovely weather for moving) and teens temps freezing is not helping. I had to do a lot of winterizing last night and forgot a few things so will be doing it tonight in really crappy, windy weather............

well, be careful! I have a friend in burleson and she said schools for tomorrow are already closed!

Thank you for the well wishes everyone. I think the gov has already declared state of emergency. We are going to have record lows, like 5 or zero degrees. See down here they do not have plows and sanders, etc. I mean, in NE I used to drive over this stuff, all the time, to get to work. YOu can't do that here, esp. not in rural areas adjacent to national forests. no plows or sanders or anything except on major highways which are 80 miles from us. :)

And the trees are what causes the problems, millions of trees falling on stuff.

RACEHORSE, I hope things go well for you guys! Does your charger have a car adapter in case the electricity is out for that long again? That is what I have for the backup of the backup batteries :)

Yes, I just realized that, although walking over ice to get to truck is problematic, like standing on a ladder when you live alone and are older, you do not place yourself in situations where you might get hurt and its driving distance to nearest neighbors.

Lights are flickering now, probably not much longer will have electricity here........better get started building fire and lighting candles n' stuff.

We are having some unusually low temperatures for my area of the country, but not near as cold as where a lot of you all are. I hope that everyone in areas with icy storms stays safe (and warm).

Healing thoughts are going out to all who have been ill, injured or recovering from surgery. Take care of yourselves.

It was a bit of a shock hearing the news earlier this evening about Mandela's passing. I guess sometimes I just think that some people will always just be there - I hadn't realized how old he was - but what a life, and what a legacy he left!
