We are going out to dinner tonight to the fancy steak house and I noticed on their menu they have a roasted quail with poblano cheese grits appetizer. I remember saying I had only had grits once before and didn't care for the plain taste and texture, so if it is gluten free I am going to order that for my appetizer while DH scarfs down all the bread. I know grits are gluten free but who knows what they put in it or if they use soy on the quail.

This is my peace offering to all the funky speaking southerners in here, I am going to try your most famous item of cuisine as my olive branch

add a dash of salt to your grits. Will make them 10x better.... Butter? no! Cheese... OK if you are at waffle house... I prefer my grits thick as paste and salted ;)

I usually go for salt, little butter and brown sugar for mine. The drier the better for me too. I like seeing the spoon standing up on its own :)

Aye! If my grits can't double as mortar to build a brick house... I don't want them! The thicker the better!

Southern gingerbread house has no frosting! It's made of grits and deer jerkey!

This is the fancy shmancy steak house my friends. There may not be salt on the table

If I am able to order it, I will report back on how well it held up the leg I shall tear from the quail and plant like a southern flag in your honor

Cramer featured NJOY on Mad Money tonight, in a positive light calling the government "obtuse" for trying to ban/tax it :D

Though within the past few weeks I did hear him say (can't remember which show) that someone was using one near him "and I didn't want that thing near me!" My guess would be that he received a lot of comment on that, and decided to educate himself. It is clear he has turned his thinking around on them since he is now saying, "for those of us who has family members that smoke, this is a pretty darn good choice"

I am REALLY glad i did not try to go anywhere til today (Day 6 since first ice hit) 'cuz I saw some *really bad stuff* out there, much worse than these photos, and it really would have made me even more scared, cuz my property looks a little like a war zone too now. My jaw dropped on the way into town, some of the houses i saw looked like they had been "swallowed up" by trees, branches and ice.

Heres some photos, this was on Day 4 & 5, from a few local blogs and my local forum..... it was not getting much better til today when the sun started to shine.

Here are some from in town, you know town has very few trees, (tornado took them all out in 2009) so you can imagine what it looks like out here in the forests

I have several "pioneer gal pals" out here, S, E, and J, they are all in my age group (58-65), single and live alone 14-16 miles out....I am the only one who got electricity, even though they are only 1-2 miles away. As of tonight, all 3 of them still do not have electricity, heat or hot water, other than their woodstoves and what they can melt off their roof and what we bring them, there are no motels in town due to all the electrical workers and chain saw crews they brought in, so you just try to find people who have electricity and showers. The problem is everyone has pets and or horses so can't really leave the property and "go somewhere". We were all kind of afraid to go to sleep, that something might fall on top of us in the night.

Friend in town is broken-hearted, here is tree in his yard, in all her glory in fall.....the next photo is the "after" photo today or yesterday. :( so sa to loose a rooted "friend":

I am glad you are ok and your friends are also. Those pics are sad and scary. Be careful and best wishes for you and everybody who got hit with your winter storm!

Is this kind of early for winter storms to be happening? I don't know anything about them except they are scary.

i'm getting ready to brave the frozen tundra to head out to my first day of physical therapy. My flexibility so far is much better than i thought it would be :) i managed to shower and shave unassisted (although not nearly as fun as having the evil one help).

Wow racehorse! I haven't seen an Ice storm like that since the 80's in Rochester!

Yes, I imagine in Rochester it mostly SNOWS. Snow never has bothered me, i lived in NE most of my life, New England and otherwise.

Since I got down here, I've gone thru 2 ice storms, a major F4 tornado, a few mini tornados, etc. And they keep telling people that life own South is so much easier????

I just love that photo of Lucy. Can't get over her!

I just lent out the documentary Project Nim. Bittersweet. That poor chimp went thru so much, thankfully his "caretaker" student never lost track of him, and finally saw that he was treated right. That story upset me so much, so much. Ethically, an animal taught sign language, and raised like a human should end up even one day, even one moment, in a testing lab, it is unbelievable that this happened.

Bob Ingersoll was a saint, and he taught me that it only takes ONE person, one person to change the life of an animal or human being, just some effort and kindness, to make it all work out right. He and Nim really were "best friends". Sort of like Secretariat's groom....he really saw Secretariat more like a pal, just like if he were a person.

Racehorse so hoping weather improves for you and all living your way. I was going to go on here this evening and wish everyone a to stay cozy warm. We are supposed to get sub zero temps tonight. Have been getting a lot of snow all day but nothing like the ice you are experiencing. Guess goes to show you we need to count our blessings!
