The part of Canada that doesn't get enuf Snow :(
On Friday I sent home Tornado homework and we are collecting stuff to build our own tornadoes in a bottle which keeps for several months. That seems insensitive now or I am over thinking as usual. Can we make... snow globes? ideas anyone? I am prowling online. with the school affected it seems... like a kid bringing home a tornado in a bottle is the last thing they would want... I can buy other parts, right now we have dish soap and glitter. I was drinking mini Sprite zeros, that would be adorable to take home with something inside... It would cost me... $15 or so but ehh...

Just catching up but no I don't think it insensitive. As matter of fact I believe doing so is very positive you may inspire a little bugger to do research to give more advance warnings or instill a desire to become a first responder the list could go on and on of the possitives your lesson may bring on. Yes others may not see it as such but many will. I thought when I saw some of the footage that my next dog will be a search and rescue dog. My last dog could do it even tho not officially trained. The 2 I have now are to stupid.

I don't think so. I think it would be a great learning opportunity since it is in the news and the kids maybe have heard about it. It will help them understand them even better now. If you are feeling a bit guilty, send a note home with it that this project was planned before the tragedy.

I agree, Val....this is a great project...and a great time to do it. As a child, I recall paying more attention to a topic when it applied to the real world in a real way. That's what I loved about grade school in my day...we watched the news when big things were happening and then we talked about it and worked on projects that were related to the subject, you know....in a grade school sort of way. (this is meant of course, will all due respect)

That being said....I'm almost glad my internet connection was awful today. I'm feeling a profound sadness over this event....so much loss and devastation. Last year I remember being glued to the news, bawling for days. My heart goes out to the entire region...for those who are affected now and those who are remembering their own hellish experience of years past. :(

We just lost electricity. High winds but no tornado watch. Certainly is nice to have the little 7" digital TV. Local digital channels only but plenty and weather. Had to hook up our cell booster to one of the little backup batteries to get enough signal, downstairs, for cell and data. Don't want to be upstairs with the 60-80 gust especially near windows. (We have to use cell booster full time for signals downstairs but it plugs into electric so have to use battery when lose electric.) 80 something temp right now and humid. First time I've used this back up battery and boosting cell signal so not sure how long it will last. Guess we'll find out. Probably delayed getting power back as lots of crews heading to OK. Stay safe. Glad a bunch of REO batteries charged up. Will do coffee in a.m. on little butane burner.

Hugs, Feisty Alice

We should be just fine. Have a Ryobi battery operated fan for DH so he'll be able to sleep somewhat comfy. All four of my big battery lanterns need fc bulbs but have several small ones that take AA cells and a wind up one. And 9 headlamps with fresh cells and plenty spares charged. Other battery stuff too. The cold front that is pushing all these terrible storms will keep tomorrow's temp reasonable. One little wind up/solar lantern and a combined light/radio/weather band solar/wind up both will power cell phones so may get to test them out if power off for days. Other night I downloaded several episodes Nashville to Kindle Fire so DH will have entertainment tomorrow night. Everyone in Nashville (his recent visit to see kids) says Nashville a "must see." Hoping don't have to break out generators. Have the big bunch of frozen 2-liter bottles in big freezer that will keep the food good for a day. We are just mildly inconvinced compared to so many others. Oh yeah, have two of the X-tar battery chargers that not only have 12v cigar plug but will power small gadgets via USB using 2 18650 batteries. May play with them tomorrow to see just what they will power.
