I hope pt helps Jeni! I think the only way I made it this many years without surgery was thanks to yoga and exercises a physical therapist taught me. And getting out of bed the correct way.I know! In the morning, it is about 1/2 hr or so before I can even bend down to give my cats their treats, and if I move wrong, I get a shooting pain from down my leg and up my back. Mine is lower back also, on the right side. I am at a loss as to getting rid of the pain. I am just about ready to ask my Dr for some muscle relaxers or something, I just don't know what to do. I had an appt with the physical therapist this morning, but I just couldn't go, moved it to Wednesday.
First time?
It really starts to show a difference after about the 4-5th time. Thanks for reminding me, mine missed their weekly rub down due to the sale madness.
Jeni, back pain is absurd! I never imagined how incapacitating it could be. My issue is in my lower back, I have a sprain that continually is re-aggravated. I really thought I was gonna lose it at work today. Crappy day with plenty of antagonism from my boss combined with back issue -----phewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww There were several moments where I had to hobble out of the room lest I say something not nice...
I've had back problems since I was 20 or so. At 27 I was told I will be in a wheelchair at 40 without surgery. Pushed through to 39, and have to have the surgery. My folks both swear by their chiropractors. I went once and couldn't walk for two weeks. That was it for me, give me drugs, massage pads, heat, ice...but do not crack my back!8-o
Hope it helps you Justin. Like I said, my folks love theirs.

I feel for all three of you. I had a lumbar fusion done in the mid 90's. It was so much better for a few years. I have always had a curve in my spine. I found out that there is a 1 inch difference in the top of my hips. So it makes one leg longer. Two disc are now acting up. My hip is hurting from the one leg that gets most of the pressure. I am so glad that I have pain meds for my neck. Sometimes I need to use them and the muscle relaxer for my back pain.
Chiro's can be very helpful. But it takes 2-3 visits a week for a long time. At first it causes more pain. I know if I go to expect the next day to be on pain meds. I am no longer going because I can't do it.
If ice works for you that is the best. Heat relaxes muscles but then they can get really tight and cause more pain. I had spasms once when heat was applied and had to lay down for almost an hour before I could walk.
Take care of yourself. Use what you must. Hang in there. (huggs)
