Old 510.

Going to let someone else advise on what to buy. It looks like you need to purchase the stainless 510 separately plus an additional kit to upgrade the contact & spring. My concern is that I don't think there is a point to buying one without the other.

Bear in mind that if you still have the SP catch cup on there that is limiting options to just a handful of small diameter atomizers. What I'm getting at is unless you get the catch cup milled down first there isn't a lot of advantage to upgrading the 510 and the contacts. Something to consider. If you want to move beyond the likes of the RM2 you need the low profile milling.

You may want to e-mail Rob from the Reosmods web site and get a price to mill the catch cup and do the upgrades. He really doesn't charge a lot to do that, not much more than the cost of the parts. He'll get back to you with a price and you can then decide if you want to tackle it yourself or if it's just worth any upcharge beyond the parts to git 'er done right.
Thanks, Rob said it would be 55 bucks to mill and upgrade. Will have to think about this a bit more.

I have a mini that I've been needing to send in for awhile to have this all done to it. But I need to make sure we'll still be able to 18490 batteries first

From what I see on the site, the retail cost of the parts alone is $31.00 - not including the milling up-charge. It really is a bargain if you think about it.

If you are into this type of work of course you can tackle it yourself. I think you read the posts further back that described what you need to do to remove the old 510 and get the new one in properly?

The milling? It's aluminum - easy metal to work with. A few people have done the milling down with hand tools. That works - it's just a bit slower is all.

BUY IT!!! BUY IT!!! BUY IT!!!

That's a steal for that price! It clearly has the upgraded gold contacts and spring! They don't say if the 510 is upgraded but even if it isn't that's a dirt cheap deal if you want to go sub ohm.

Hey, how North are you? Can I chuck a Reo at you from Marblehead?
Yes you could @Rickajho. I know Marblehead quite well. A beautiful place. I am in Lynn close to the golf course and hospital. Small world!

I'm sorry - I wasn't trying to twist your arm there!

Looking at the 510 it looks like it's the old style - because of the brassy looking color. If it was stainless it would look like - not brassy.

Regardless, as I said the old 510 isn't really a liability. You need the adjustable if you have an atty that is known to have issues making contact in 510's - thankfully more of an exception than a rule. Considering that price includes shipping that really is a deal.

So... how many days has it been and how many Reos are you up to so far? :D Don't say we didn't warn you. (I think I had my first 5 in about 90 days...)

Other than all that, you got the squonking and builds figured out ok? It may be more obvious today, but coil position relative to the air hole in the RM2 can make big differences in what you get.

Also, is the air hole lined up on your RM2 ok relative to the coil? If someone swaps bases and caps some times you can get one with the air hole not in the ideal place. But we can fix that somewhat with an o-ring between the base and cap. Stuff like that.

Best part about a Reo - little tweaks. Just little things to improve performance or correct any problem.

Here's one more: If you have the old metal contacts in your current one - the contacts & spring that are not gold plated - some small maintenance can make a big difference.

Don't know what condition your battery positive contact was in when you got it. Was it clean? Battery out and button pushed to get access and clean it off if needed. After that, to get the best conductivity out of that positive contact you need to apply either Deoxit or some Noalox to the tip of the contact. Can make all the difference in the world in performance.

Morning Angi! Good to see you popped in. How are your Reos? Still doing Challices?

And Woodhippy, you are getting some great advice regarding maintanance. A little goes a long way. They (non woodvills) love to have a bath too. Use a tooth brush with soap to get at the contact area with button pushed down. Before adding Deoxit to contact and coil (where it touches battery) wipe off with alcohol on a q-tip. Also if you are able to remove spring without stripping the screw, remove it, clean it and put some Deoxit, etc where it makes contact with mod at the base. There's a pretty good video on the Reo page. And only use a nail file on the contact if they are the OLD version. Really.

Well the other Reo got sold. Before I got to it. So I am back to 1.
Rickajho And everyone else. Thanks again for your help. I made the Airflow 1 size bigger. Got it to line up. With o ring fix, And checked my contact points. And I finally have another use for my large can of Deoxit Gold.
I am very happy with my Reo.
