I haven't dropped a spring in my almost 3yrs with my Reo's... I have had a couple coils that popped at the post and separate from it with nothing happening to the spring.

I'm guessing now that I've modded both my grands, it would be a bad time to have a short of any kind!!! I always check my coils with the cap on the meter so nothing to worry about here. Then again, when you only build coils every 6-7 months you don't have to worry too often...

i have always built my coils on the basis of rampant paranoia and test them about 3 times and always with the atty fully assembled.

If you then still have the misfortune to get a short because the atty or mod 510 has issues, well then someone is out to get you. But look on the bright side, even if you mod your devices and have no fuse or spring - the battery will act as one and they are not as volatile as they used to be! ;)

i typically dry burn and adjust my coils on a regulated device, because otherwise i'd never use it and that might catch mistakes better than just a coil building or multimeter measuring setup.

I check on an ohm meter, then throw the atty on a mech and glow/adjust coils, then almost always throw it back on the ohm meter for a last reference check before going on the Reo.
Second short ever was last night - wire poking out behind the big fat screw of a clone Narda touched the cap. Caught this on the mech and it just sparked - quick enough that there wasn't any damage - I was "pulsing"...
First short was a common one - wire tail touching the cap on a Chalice. And still - caught that fast enough that the spring didn't drop. But I have a couple springs if I need one!

That is where the "Coil Master" is supreme. You can switch from ohmmeter to pulsing coil & back with a flick of the toggle switch.

Yeah - I've thought about it a couple times...
But I paid too much a long time ago, to get a heavy duty ohm-meter, and just can't quite justify throwing more money for some convenience now.

Someday, I'll grab one though...

This is what I have. Best part is the name: ORTDS. "ohm reader that doesn't suck" lol.

I'm a Coil Master tab lover myself...haven't used anything else since I got mine. Very convenient. I don't put the atty on my mod until its time to squonk!

I do the same. Actually I have two devices. I had purchased a USA Ohm Meters Fire Meter, which is about twice the price of the Coil Master Tab. Shortly afterward, I won a Tab as a door prize at a local meet up. I actually like the Tab better than the more expensive Fire Meter. But I use either, depending which one I grab first. The 510 connector is better quality on the Fire Meter, and the box is heavier and more solid. But I like the switch better on the Tab. Accuracy wise, they both read about the same.

This is in no way shape or form worth watching. I encourage you not to. However I like making vids, it's fun and my mission is complete here [emoji38]

Love it! The mountain roads, the trees, the snow, the Pearl Jam. Closest thing I have to a mole hill is Houston freeway overpasses! [emoji15]

Just talked to Rob this morning. The button on one of my P67s is sticking. Yesterday, I had to quickly pull out the battery, because it continued to fire, after I had released the button. Both of my P67s are from the first release. I guess that's why the most recent release has an added spring in the button. Anyway, it went on the shelf until I get the upgraded parts. My other one seems ok, but I don't trust it. I'm going to upgrade both of them.
